WHY DID NO ONE SELECT MARTIN ST. LOUIS IN THE 2000 EXPANSION DRAFT

ARE THEY ALL STUPID?
You know hindsight is 20 20. And it’s not really fair to sit in my chair, typing on my iPad, and cast judgement.

But you know what? It’s not my job to be fair.

So….. yes. Every single GM who could of and did not select MSL is a total dumbass.

Total dumbasses, every one of them.

On the Marchment topic the situation screams a silent trade request. Marchment and his agent probably got a little annoyed he kept getting passed over for a call up. Not wanting to have bad relationship with ab agent over an ok AHL player or risking him being disgruntled in the room, Leafs GM obliged. Simple.

This thread makes no sense

They let Marchment go because he sucked when he was part of their organization

The better question is why did Florida let Marchment go?

Good question. He was such a great player.

The Leafs got more for Marchment than Florida.

Florida waited for Marchment to breakout and then... let him walk? They could use him.
Lol Florida had no cap space a year ago. That's why they let him "walk". I'm sure they're happier with Tkachuk. I'm happy for March though.

What does Tkachuk got to do with Marchment?

The Leafs are happy with Matthews too.

Was it not because of cap? Ultimately 4.5M is turning out very reasonable for him, but he had a pretty insane year with Florida.

Because he's the main reason we were in cap hell in the summer of 2022. He signed a 9.5 x 8 deal when we acquired him, and Huby and Weegar were still on cheap contracts. And Yandle's buyout hit was over 5+ M that season also, which completely screwed us.

Makes sense, he wasn't even getting a good look on the Marlies because we were focused on developing Kapanen and a cpl other guys.

Mason Marchment is on pace to break career highs in both goals and points in Dallas.

He's developed into a solid top 6 player who brings size, old school physicality but also a great offensive toolbox with decent hands, good defense who looks to be capable of 20 goal, 50+ pt seasons if healthy.

He's turning 29 in June but a player Toronto would likely crave at this point of their year no?
How did they fumble this so bad?
He was traded to Florida for Denis Malgin in 2020 who played 30(?) games for the Leafs and overseas now.

Still missed by Panther fans, he's found a great fit in Dallas. Fun player to watch.

**Feel free to discuss about other players who've bloomed late and fell through the cracks of other teams**
Dude you're asking blood again with some Leafs fans who I'm not going to mention. They will be crying a lot more on Panthers related threads after this.

Basically a .5 ppg player in AHL (deep playoff runs too) and provides a unique toolbox. Multiple years of development in their system only to play 4 NHL games before getting moved.

Wonder if that really sparked him when given the chance to play?
Lol. A .5 ppg AHL player is a borderline NHL player 99.99% of the time. Which you know

plus if you have a look at the Marlies roster while he was here, it's clear we prioritized some imports and other picks more.

Also remember the mindset of the Leafs at this time, they were still on the whole skill over truculence and Marchment would have been seen as a Burke type player.
