Great player, but we need someone younger with star quality back.
Just feels like the kind of trade bergy would make.

Silly thought, but what about Pierre Dorion? If Dubas steals his job in Ottawa and things go sideways with this era, Dorion is a pretty good tear it down and build it up GM. He's got a scouting background...
Don't mind dorion either. But I doubt he leaves Ottawa. Even with new ownership doesn't make too much sense unless the sale is closed within the next month

I wouldn't say he's a bad coach. He won the Jack Adam's last year. Just his abrasive old school style wears thin really fast with players nowadays. Same with Torts
If he is not a bad coach then he is the wrong coach.
Adams is awarded for winning coaches, often squeezing wins, but also fail to see the long term damage they do...in Calgary case...bye bye Tkachuk....I never want to see an Adams if that is the cost.

Replace Dubas and Keefe with Ryan Papaioannou.

Sure it is only the AJHL, but nothing like taking a team that has never won anything and was fairly mediocre to a team that barely loses and has won 7/12 AJHL championships since he has been coach.

Would be a great way for MLSE to save money too :sarcasm: 2 for the price of 1.

If he was up for it, I wouldn't be against at least making him Moore's replacement as Marlies HC.

Rick Dudley has some history here. He was director of player personnel for the '11-'12 season. Also born in Toronto and grew up in Port Credit.
Dudley is a excellent talent evaluator, definitely worse options out there………

Dorion gets no respect, he’s done a pretty good job on a shoestring budget………..

I've heard people joking about Jaromir Jagr for GM job in Pit. He owns/manages his club in Czech league (playing part time :D).

Jagr is second in points to Gretzky and got some management experience. I don't see it happening but it could work.

Jill Nill is the brains behind Ken Holland in Detroit and his competitive Dallas team is a testament to that. The trade for Seguin, the 2017 master draft class. Only question is would you give the job to a 66 year old and what is your time horizon like for success? I think of Nill as more of a program builder, probably what we should have had in place starting years ago so we didn't end up in this dead end.

Kind of curious if there would ever be a level of failure in Detroit for the Red Wings to move on from Yzerman or if that's just a job for life.
I don’t know if it’s a job for life with Yzerman but he’s rebuilding the entire organization and I’m sure he would be good for at least 10 years.

Jim Nill is a good GM, I didn't realize his contract only has a year left. That would ba a respectable hire if Shanahan manages to get him out of Dallas.

He's been there 10 years and with a lot of questionable decisions in that time frame. The list is long. It feels like in the last 4-5 years or so they turned a corner with decision making and drafting, and it's been much better. He's a big time veteran and a ton of experience.

Despite having 3 years left on his Blues contract you can still hope MLSE has enough persuasion to bring Doug Armstrong in.
That’s assuming he wants it now. He might just watch to see if implodes and then take it from scratch. Being able to start an organization from day one, your way is enticing. Trying to keep something afloat that isn’t working someone else’s way, is not.

Dreger this morning on FirstUp:

-It's quiet in Toronto for a reason, that's typically how Shanahan works in terms of speculation.

-Bergevin spoke to Calgary and Pittsburgh, possibly a name the Leafs talk to as well.

-Treliving was definitely first in and spent a good amount of time with Shanahan early this week.

-Shanahan did speak to other candidates and there is a process happening. The slower process could be because Shanahan is waiting for teams to be out of the playoffs or to see how things shape up with other teams (McPhee, Nill, etc).

-Brandon Pridham is a highly regarded exec and it's not like Shanahan is only focused on the GM search. Leafs are operating just fine with everything else.

-The new GM will decide on the coach, so Keefe is up in the air. Not sure until a GM is hired. Seems likely there is a change though. If Treliving does get the job, it definitely won't be Darryl Sutter (laughs). A lot of good candidates to replace Keefe.

Why are there so many Doug Armstrong and George Mcphee fanatiics over here. Are people forgetting the horrible trades/signings they've made that led their franchises down dark paths?

If Jagr was GM of the Leafs, he would insert himself into the roster...

Who's a better GM in your eyes?
Pridham or Tulsky. Stop giving these old washed up GMs positions they clearly don't deserve just because of "experience"

I'd have wished we didn't let go of Dubas at all but Shanahan went on a power trip so it is what it is

You see why you prefer those guys? They have a track record of zero as a head GM. We have nothing to dissect. We attribute every good thing to them as part of their current roles but fault the GM for the bad. This isn't to say they aren't great GMs in the making but this is just wishful thinking they'll be better than someone like Armstrong or McPhee. It could go very badly or more of the same.

I liked Dubas for the most part but he has plenty of blemishes with his time in Toronto. Just as much if not more than people with much more experience.

Most GM’s who are in the game enough will see lean years as their teams go through the full life cycle of rebuild, contend, decline.
