I would want Mike Futa just because he said on the radio last week his solution would be to trade Tavares for Doughty and he personally knows Doughty would love to play for the Leafs. That would come up within 2 minutes of him getting hired that he wants his captain gone and it would be an awesome news cycle.

Other than that I don’t know anything about him.
Oh please, if Doughty truly wanted to be a Leaf, he would be one already. He's too long in the tooth now anyways !!!

Don't shoot the messenger on this one. I'm sure there are players in the league who'd like to play for the Leafs that haven't had the opportunity.

I'mma throw a wild horse to the races who've said he will be a NHL GM. Shannys buddy and my alltime favorite player. Sergei Fedorov

I threw out Larionov's name a few days ago, but Fedorov could be intriguing as well. I just want to see more names out there rather than the same old ones that keep cycling around.

Shero wouldn't be near my top choices, but he'd be a more intriguing one than Treliving if Shanny was focusing more on bringing in a guy with experience. Knows how to make a bigger trade, also has experience with analytics despite being a more old school guy too

Treliving To Maple Leafs Heating Up? | The Chris Johnston Show

May 25, 2023 The Chris Johnston Show

On this episode of The Chris Johnston Show:

Matthew Tkachuk & the Florida Panthers (00:30)

You Can Bet That w/ Sports Interaction (11:00)

Brad Treliving to Maple Leafs getting hot (15:30)

the Penguins (25:20)

Flames coaching job (31:15)

Treliving's eligibility for the draft (35:50)

Anyone but Treliving.
His coach should have been fired 2 yrs ago. He lacked the guts.
He screwed up a major trade, his team went backwards.
At least Dubas and Keefe had good regular seasons.

Whoever has the balls to get rid of Marner. They’re never going to win with a soft, 11m, proven loser like Marner. His refusal to go to the dirty areas and how he shuts down totally when the tempo picks up is pitiful. Not just that but he’s clearly emotionally fragile and would rather make excuses than accept his failure. Every year, it’s the same shit with him too - “we didn’t get the bounces”. No Mitch, you didn’t step up when it mattered and lost again because you’re a loser.

If he made 6-7M, it’s a non issue but he’s paid to make a difference and he has never, once contributed to anything positive and significant in the playoffs. I’m so sick of this guy especially. Obviously Tavares cannot be moved so it has to be Marner.

Keefe sucks how can you not have a great season withe that core. He had no accountability.
Every time we played a crazy team we lost.

Basically confirms they have a short-list of candidates but the only one he can really confirm that the Leafs spoke to is Treliving. Johnston thinks Treliving makes a lot of sense based on everything. The timeline could be about a week, he doesn't think it'll stretch too far into June as for a decision for the new GM. A curve ball can happen though of course.

Goes on to say they don't have a big list like Calgary or even Pittsburgh had, mostly because they had a lot more time to go through the process.

Mike Gillis trade history: Mike Gillis Trade History - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Mike Gills free agents history: Mike Gillis Staff History, Signings, and Coach Contracts - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

Seems like he managed the ship well, but didn't make any huge trade/free agent additions but he retained all his guys and didn't make any dumb moves.
Looking at his draft history, it was pretty bad. Only NHL players with over 100 games he produced from 2008-2013 include Hodgson (bust), Schroeder (meh), Connauton (meh), Jensen ( solid), Gaunce (meh), Ben Hutton (meh), Horvat (great).

In 6 drafts he produced a #1B Center from a top 10 pick, a decent top 4 dman and then a bunch of fringe players.

I am a big fan if history predicting the future.
Shanahan hired an established OLD GM in Lou to mentor his "chosen one" Dubas.

So maybe Pridham is the chosen one...maybe the Carolina assistant GM is.
Bring in a short term grizzled veteran to learn under and do the heavy lifting.

I have read Tallon mentioned. I have another name.
Rick Dudley
He has been a respected exec for many-many years and is a tough no nonsense guy.

Looking back the biggest mistake I think Shanahan made was letting Kyle negotiate the contracts for Mitch and Auston. Keeping Lou for another season would have been better and if I am remembering properly Dubas was lobying/rumored to be heading to Colorado so Shanahan forced the promotion.

Maybe Shanahan had a feeling of deja vu in negotiations this time with Kyle forcing things....
Rick Dudley has some history here. He was director of player personnel for the '11-'12 season. Also born in Toronto and grew up in Port Credit.

My list

Armstrong
I'd love Nill, but like Armstrong I have no idea why his team would let him go.
I mean, If say you're a owner and your GM comes and says I'd like to listen to this x team offer for my services, wouldn't you want that gm to have freedom to go or u want to say no and keep a gm who just asked to basically leave lol
