You don’t have to change the rules, just apply them consistently.

It’s the playoffs, you have to play hard. But not like Hyman, Kadri, Bunting, Simmonds, Clifford. You have to guess at where the line is, and if you guess wrong you either get suspended or bullied by the other team. Also the line changes game to game depending on the refs, the score, and the period.
You aren’t wrong, but they have never been applied consistently, at least as far as minor penalties go. Whether it’s ref to ref, or game to game. Inconsistencies within a game itself though becomes very frustrating as it’s so noticeable.

The biggest disparity has always been between the regular season and the playoffs.

It’s just a reality.

If they hire bowman or quennville they will alienate a lot of fans.
I think pridham would be the best candidate now with all his experience with capology and statistics

Treliving did a fantastic job building the Florida Panthers into becoming a contender

He traded a player that wasn't going to sign an extension with them.

I'm not even particularly a Treliving fan, but anyone saying he got fleeced on the deal is using revisionist history. The consensus at the time was quite the opposite.

Sprinkle in the Kyle Beach situation and he shouldn't even be under consideration.
Keefe was given a second chance. I’m sure Bowman will be given one as well. Same goes for Quenneville.

If the Leafs are going to look for Chicago alumni for help, the guy I would want is not Bowman, it’s Dale Tallon. He’s up there in age at 72, but he’s the real builder of the successful Hawks dynasty teams in my mind.

Quennville would be an upgrade on Keefe. Bowman would not be an upgrade on Dubas.

Not sure who will be the new GM, but hoping for someone who is ready to make hard decisions and not be soft. Eg. If Matthews signs by July1st at reasonable extension cool, otherwise trade him as we can’t let him walk for nothing, neither is he worth paying the moon to. Marner’s NMC kicks in by July 1st and I think you have to see what you could get in return for him on the market, if it’s a decent enough return, pull the trigger. Tell JT his captaincy is being re-evaluated based on the lack of results of him leading his troops. We’ll evaluate if we need to change the captain to someone more vocal and hard nosed. And start setting a culture where you touch one of ours, don’t care who you are, you’re gonna get jumped by all of us- that’s a true TEAM.

The best available general manager not working is Stan Bowman. The best available coach is Joel Quenneville. Neither has been approved to return to the NHL. Both want to return. Would a politically correct, modern semi-woke company such as Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment ever consider either of these men, pushed out because of the Kyle Beach investigation? I would certainly consider it … Sheldon Keefe is no different than you or I. He has no idea whether he will return next season as Leafs coach … When MLSE hired Masai Ujiri for the Raptors, they essentially stole him while he was working for the Denver Nuggets as GM. Would the company consider something similar in chasing a replacement for Dubas? There might be GMs in place around the NHL who would have interest in the Toronto job … If I’m Brendan Shanahan, here are some GMs currently not working as GMs that I would consider hiring: Doug Wilson, who wants back in the NHL and he’s only 65; former Calgary boss Brad Treliving; player agent Pat Morris; player agent Pat Brisson; Leafs assistant GM Brandon Pridham; broadcaster Kevin Weekes; Tampa assistant Mathieu Darche; London Knights GM Mark Hunter

Bring back Brian Burke

More seriously, I think we need a hockey guy rather than an analytics guy. This team needs to restructure leadership and the spreadsheet guys aren't the ones who do that. Tulsky sounds like Dubas with a different haircut. Analytics guys are the ones you want as AGM's tell you which depth guys to target, you need someone who understands hockey teams to decide on team vision and build your core.

Yes, players treat the playoffs differently. The Leafs are not built for the tough playoff grind.
So you mean the goons do? They know you can away with more. Players like Gudas and Perry and those big slow defenseman like chairot?

I mean isn’t the regular season a grind …3 games a week? Are regular season games preseason?

So I assume the star players just don’t give a damn because their salary is paid full is that it?

So the rules get lax because it’s tradition and these guys go to this kind of “war “ and others don’t?

Maybe that’s why players treat it different ? they can get away with more without hurting their teams with a penalty. ?

So Stars have to fight thru it while goons flourish?

What a product

So players don’t make more money winning a rd or a cup but for some reason they care less getting paid millions then making nothing in playoffs? All because of Lord Stanley?

So players like Mathew’s and Marner just don’t want it enough?

Just can’t be the game got harder and different because they throw away half the rule book because it’s playoffs when no other sport does it?

I’m all for great playoffs performances …I’m not against heavy hockey with body checks….etc

But the I don’t see the NFL changes rules and all of a sudden Brady is taking pile drivers while being sacked …. :)

So again….the NHL have done it for years…unlike any other sport …correct?
We should just accept it?

Rules change . How about we go back to the 70’s …have brawls and players in stand beating up fans….

Don Cherry and Fans loved it back then too.

It’s funny tho that viewership isn’t going well …especially in the States with this NHL product. And it’s no wonder because all the other sports promote their stars ….not goons

But we just accept rules changing in playoffs because it’s some kind of war and “some” of us like it?

It’s weird to me. I loved hockey…playing it and watching it but it’s a terrible product especially in the playoffs because of the rule change. Players are not tougher because they can take a header into the boards or skate thru hooking and slashes.

I mean look at Gudas …late hits …holding sticks….punching players in the face and the playoff refs just turn a blind eye

IMHO that isn’t good for hockey.

Make the rules consistent….have same rules in regular season. Let there be this so called “War” for 82 games then
Couldn’t agree more! I’ve been saying the same thing, why in hell reffing one way in the regular season, and then do an about f***ing face in the playoffs? Makes absolutely NO sense!
Hitting, checking, even a good fight once in awhile belong in hockey, especially the playoffs. But why can’t skill belong there as well? Wasn’t it great to see Radko f***ing Gudas play such a huge part in that series clinching goal? Give your head a shake! It should have been called a penalty. Not that it would have mattered in the end. Florida was the better team, the Leafs caved like they always have in the playoffs with our such vaunted, almost able to score at will “core”. Can’t wait to see what the next GM does!

Why are ppl blaming trievling for Tkachuk trade? Lmao at least he traded him and got something from a guy who didn't want to stay on the team.... dubas would let him walk free.

Gudas? Other than holding a stick what has he done?
What goonery are you even talking about? The worst thing in this playoffs was the Bunting elbow and that wasn’t really that bad, imo.

All players have to fight through the checking and scrums. The Cup is filled with names of the some of the greatest players in the history of the game have done it and they continue to do it today.

Soft players on poorly built teams that don’t stick up to each other, don’t have their names on the Cup.
