Treliving brought in a dinosaur coach in Sutter. That alone makes me skeptical. And don't remind me of the past cups. I know. Doesn't change my opinion.

I don't think he'd bring in Sutter seeing as he left because Calgary didn't want to fire Sutter.

It was only after the players forced their hand that they fired Sutter, otherwise he'd still be there.

He traded a player that wasn't going to sign an extension with them.

I'm not even particularly a Treliving fan, but anyone saying he got fleeced on the deal is using revisionist history. The consensus at the time was quite the opposite.
This is why fans need to temper their expectations on a 34 trade, the return will be disappointing but better than nothing, unless it’s a sign and trade…….

Treliving’s name being linked to the Leafs hardcore. Not sure how I really feel about it.

You could do worse... My main hope would be that he's learned from Gaudreau walking and on trying to bandaid things together with highly questionable contracts (ie Kadri/Huberdeau).

My other comment/complaint would be that while I think he made some good moves in a vacuum, he didn't seem to have a ton of vision. Flames were in and out of the playoffs with him, and essentially a consistent bubble team. So that plus letting Gaudreau walk and signing the Huberdeau/Kadri deals suggests he focuses too much on the present season at the expense of the future, rather than thinking through what should be done to build a consistent legit contender for multiple years (even if it requires a short term step back, such as trading Gaudreau away).

I would want Mike Futa just because he said on the radio last week his solution would be to trade Tavares for Doughty and he personally knows Doughty would love to play for the Leafs. That would come up within 2 minutes of him getting hired that he wants his captain gone and it would be an awesome news cycle.

Other than that I don’t know anything about him.
I wanted futa from the start of the Shanahan era. I like his vision of what a team should be.
Imo he would do great here

Dreger on Leafs' decision to part ways with Dubas: 'The seed of doubt was planted on Monday' - TSN.ca

Toronto Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan says that the club fully intended to bring GM Kyle Dubas back on another contract, and that Dubas expressed interest in coming back too. Yet, now, Kyle Dubas and the Maple Leafs are parting ways. Where did it all break down? Darren Dreger and Cheryl Pounder join James Duthie to discuss Dubas' departure.

I would re-sign Schenn and Acciari for their physicality and ROR. He would help fill the loss of a JT or Nylander if the Leafs plan to shuffle things around and if not he's still a good piece to have.

Robertson in for Bunting and Holmberg in for Kampf make sense to me. They'll have to pick up a couple players to fill out the bottom of the forward group in free agency. Murray gone in LTIR/Trade/Buyout. Gio sees reduced minutes given he will be 40, more minutes for Liljegren and Timmins. Let Holl, Kerfoot, Kampf, Bunting, ZAR, Simmonds, Gustafsson all walk.

This is pretty much what I envision as well, except ROR is unlikely to return based on what it will cost, and I think the country club atmosphere turned him off to be honest.

From a player standpoint, I do that in a heartbeat. On a contract standpoint, I think I'm out. Doughty is making 11M for 3 more seasons as opposed to Tavares making 11M for only one more.

I could see 3, maybe 4.
Schenn, Acciari, Kampf. Possibly O’Rielly if he works with us on cost, but that may be doubtful
I suspect any space they can scrape together will be spent on a D man so I don't see O'Rielly unless the return on a big 3 trade includes a quality D man.
