According to TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger, here are two potential Toronto Maple Leafs GM candidates:

Scott Mellanby, Senior Advisor to the General Manager for the St. Louis Blues

Kris Draper, Director of Amateur Scouting for the Detroit Red Wings

Bryan Hayes, Jeff O’Neill and Jamie McLennan breakdown Brendan Shanahan’s comments regarding the departure of GM Kyle Dubas and they discuss where the organization goes from here.

Here's a name: David Poile.

Did he really retire? Or did Nashville tell him it's time and he just agreed rather then get fired?
I dont want to hire GMs closer to the grave then winning a cup

Lou/Poile/Scotty Bowman? No thanks for 2023. They are way to old to be the GM

Dubas unfortunately was to young and inexperienced at 32 when he began

Ideally we find an AGM with 5-8 years of experience who is looking to make their mark and has past extensive experience in juniors/AHL

Bob Murray, and bring in Tulsky to eventually take over as GM, so that Murray can replace Shanahan when that contract is done.

Might sound like Dubas redux, but Carolina has built a solid lineup, and I'd bring in Q as the Head Coach just to ruffle the softies feathers.
is it really soft to not like someone who covered up one of the players in the organization's rape by one of the staff members? is that really where you want your morals to align?

Mellanby was part of the Leafs for a little bit awhile ago I think? Or was that with the Habs? Or both? Either way, could be an interesting one.

Draper has jumped up high on my list.

Just to add to this, imagine how tough the media market is in Toronto. Now imagine it would the spectre of a rape cover up looming over the heads of the coach and GM. Ime Udoka in the NBA didn't even entertain the Toronto Raptors job because the meida here was an issue and that was for basketball, our second most popular sport. Imagine it with hockey with Quenneville and Bowman.

Completely unneeded drama in a market where eating hot dogs is a point of contention.

Throwing a random name out there, but how about Pat Verbeek? Sarnia native, former player, played with Shanahan in New Jersey, Hartford and Detroit. Building a great skilled based program in Anaheim, heavy duty AGM credentials from Tampa Bay.

Probably not since he's under contract, but who knows what out clauses are like.

I also like Kris Draper. Toronto area guy, used to have his Red Wings diner on the Danforth and is a Detroit dynasty veteran, working under Yzerman, similar to Verbeek.

I think Mellanby was a Hab briefly, being from Montreal. But you wonder why he's never gotten a real posting.

Doug Armstrong came up on 32 Thoughts. That would be a real industry veteran and I don't mind the idea of getting some Blues players for one of the Big 4.

Tulsky seems like a man with a lot of analytics brain power, helping run a tight ship in Carolina.

Don't like the controversy of a Quenneville Bowman duo knowing what we know about them in Chicago.

Kelly McCrimmon was a Shanaplan target once upon a time.

Doug Armstrong would be the guy. A bit of a bad last couple years and quite a few questionable decisions made but hard to argue with his resume. Maybe St-Louis would look at changing their vision and allow this to happen.

Bowman has actually won, How is that a disaster?

I'm hoping for Bowman.

I don't see why anybody would want a rookie right now especially with Matthews needing an extension.

This isn't the time to f*** around and hand the job to a rookie
Bowman didn't build those teams he won on the back of Dale Tallon's work and then covered up one of his players getting raped by his staff...sounds like a real winner.

Let it be said here that Brad Treliving is now the favourite to replace him as Leafs GM because there are so few obvious options who meet Shanahan’s requirement that “having an experienced general manager would be an attractive quality.”

The others that fall into that category are Marc Bergevin, Peter Chiarelli, Chuck Fletcher, Ray Shero, Ron Hextall, Jim Benning and Dave Nonis.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

But i was told Toronto is a big market and can get anyone.. and this is the list of dogshit that will become GM??
