I dont want to hire GMs closer to the grave then winning a cup

Lou/Poile/Scotty Bowman? No thanks for 2023. They are way to old to be the GM

Dubas unfortunately was to young and inexperienced at 32 when he began

Ideally we find an AGM with 5-8 years of experience who is looking to make their mark and has past extensive experience in juniors/AHL

You basically just described Dubas when he was hired..........

absolutely not that guy was a horrible GM riding the coattails of. Tallon

Bowman won a Cup SIX (6) years after Tallon had left. How many years later do you still want to give credit to the last guy?

The Dubas Fan Boi Club should acknowledge their idol ride the coattails of the dynasty Lou Lamoriello handed to him:

Matthews, Marner and Nylander all on ELC contracts.
Young talent Rielly and Kadri on team friendly deals.

George mcphee, David Poile and Mike Futa are my top choices, Poile and McPhee may be tough as I'm not sure how that will fit with Shanahan here as both are or have been President and Gm of organizations and don't see how reporting to Shanahan will sit.

Okay this I'd be fine with. If you want an experienced GM, okay. But why don't we go after someone that may not be "available?" Use our resources and clout to poach someone that hasn't been fired already.

Winning a Cup here means more than anywhere else and we have the talent to do it, sell that dream to stronger GMs than there are in the unemployment line.

Yeah, if they can get him - I'm in on McPhee!

(Poile as fallback if he's still got the energy & hunger)

Futa

He said something along the lines of "of course you can trade Tavares" and gave us the hypothetical trade with LA for Doughty. I liked that. I like the cut of his jib.

It's going to be a dinosaur who is going to go "need more grit" and acquire useless f***ing players that end up as boat anchors. Going to start drafting fridges on skates so all our picks are busts again.

I read speculation it will be Brad Treliving.. I literally cannot even put into words how bad of a exchange Dubas for him is. This day f***ing sucks
What picks? Lol

Not sure why nobody wants Pridham. He was brought in by TimmyL and is a wizard with the cap + has AGM experience now and if not mistaken brought in Schenn. That's indicative of his Hockey philosophy which matches winning philosophy.

I'd be open to it so long as someone experienced is his AGM like Hunter, just mentioning him because it could be a decent plausible, well balanced duo.

Other recent mentions McPhee, Futa etc are options.

Eric Tulsky or a Pridham promotion would be a best case scenario. Or nabbing one of the AGMs from the Avs, Bolts, canes or Seattle would also be good

Hextall, Bergevin, Treliving, Bowman, Chia would be an absolute disaster
Why not nab the GM from the Bolts?

Throwing a random name out there, but how about Pat Verbeek? Sarnia native, former player, played with Shanahan in New Jersey, Hartford and Detroit. Building a great skilled based program in Anaheim, heavy duty AGM credentials from Tampa Bay.

Probably not since he's under contract, but who knows what out clauses are like.

I also like Kris Draper. Toronto area guy, used to have his Red Wings diner on the Danforth and is a Detroit dynasty veteran, working under Yzerman, similar to Verbeek.
I think thats they type of guy they’ll target. There are a lot of former players managing teams now and wouldnt it be nice if a former Leaf like Mats, Roberts or someone from that era was qualified.

I'd imagine he's still under contract.
Post the job and the salary and he might find a way out it.

Maybe hire one the dinosaurs like Poile on an advisory or consulting capacity to help navigate through the issues we have on the short term whilst looking for a permanent solution.

He's still an advisor for Nashville. Don't see why he'd leave them after 20 years.

Brad Treliving is going to butcher this team if that's the direction they go in. The guy was clueless in Calgary.

Even the arguments in his favour make no sense. Like, yeah, he was forced into making a couple big trades for Calgary last off-season. Does that make him an expert at making big trades now? They arguably didn't even work out! Calgary missed the playoffs, ffs.

Hell, if we want someone who is apt at big trades, bring back Brian Burke. His drafting was garbage. His FA signings were garbage. But the man knew how to swing a deal. (No, I am not seriously advocating we bring back Burke).

It's going to have to be someone willing to work under a president - meaning it's likely not going to be someone whose used to having full autonomy.

So likely an AGM or someone else currently working in another front office in a non-GM role

This is why I'm thinking Futa

Of the past 5 Stanley Cups, 4 of them were won by rookie GMs.

Tulsky has also been working for Carolina's front office for almost a decade, during which time they've been run really well.

And the last 14 GM hires have been rookies/1st timers.
