Looking at Trelivings body of work in Calgary and a dive into his trades, signings and drafting, I will say it's definitely better than I expected... especially the drafting. A lot of good players drafted at various rounds. Losing Gaudreau for nothing set them back a ton. I didn't mind Huberdeau and Weegar for Tkachuk, especially locking up Weegar long-term to a solid deal... the Huberdeau extension is pretty terrible though. In retrospect, it was a bad return that didn't work out.

His coaching hires were also pretty bad. Some suggest he was forced to add Sutter as his head coach... I don't know if true though.

The big concern is the same as Dubas -- lack of success. Especially in the playoffs.

For the love of God - - please do not make the same mistake by hiring another spreadsheet gimp who’s never built a Cup champion or played on a Cup champion.

Meaning NO to Brandon Pridham.

Same names that have been thrown around for every team that needs a GM atm. Only here in Toronto though would we be freaking out like these are actually the candidates when we've literally never even started interviewing people and just fired ours today. Like where do they get this info from? The fact that the accounts I see freaking out about this and trying to cause panic in Leafs land are the same ones upset about Dubas and were his biggest fans.

I think Shanny made a really big mistake here.... the team's window could potentially close in the next year or two. He had a GM that knew the team intimately, had a positive relationship with some of the guys he had to be negotiating with, and hopefully / seemingly learned his lessons from the first time around.

Most of the times, when a new GM comes in, it's either because somebody has retired (in which case there's usually a guy waiting in the wings that can stay the course, or you're now stuck looking for a guy who will need time to mold the roster in his own vision.

I know it was problematic before with Lou/Dubas/Hunter, but creating a multi-headed monster with Pridham and somebody towards the end of their career like Burke, might theoretically make sense.

Alternatively, I'd probably look at Stan Bowman. This is a guy who kept Chicago good for a very long time.... who's done big negotiations, and can first-hand explain the problems with paying 2 guys that much.

Chiarelli, Benning, Fletcher, Benning, Hextall, Bowman are all revolting suggestions. Nonis won't happen, Shanny already fired him. I think I could live with Shero or Bergevin.

Burke would be interesting. I can't say I'd hate it. At least he was entertaining.

Question: is it possible for a current GM with a contract in place, to resign from that position, and sign with a new club? Thanks

He sure left the next GM to look like a failure. How do they fix this?
4 top six forwards, trade one....how do you add 3 top six forwards for 11 million?
It’s going to be tough.
Murray on the Books?
If they stick with the core 4 and lose? Dubas walked into a GM's dream and left a nightmare for the next poor fellow

You are 100% correct. But don’t forget to include all the draft picks Dubas flushed down the toilet to try and make his overpaid mistakes go away.

As I said previously, nobody has ever done less with more than Dubas.

Shanahan says "experience would be nice" and everyone loses their minds in the media.

I don't have a problem with draft picks to flush mistakes, it's not ideal but everyone gets stuck with bad fits and bad deals. But I do think Dubas left a Stanly cup hangover mess. It's a tough situation to walk into.
