I think we go with 3 "A"s the rest of the year and then the captain gets selected after training camp next season.

I voted Girardi. I don't think we have the time to mess around and not have a captain in the midst of a playoff race. A 3 A situation would probably be fine if this occurred over the summer.

I voted 3 As but..

now I'm saying I agree with Girardi. Staal isn't Captain material, to me.

#24, Captain Ryan Callahan Appreciation Thread

Great Ranger, good Captain, thanks for the hard work, the memories and for wearing the sweater with class.

Did you mods really have to move this? These are 2 separate conversations. UGH

Av is here long term. He is going to want someone who will be with him for a while.

Girardi seems legit. I would love it

Thank you Ryan Callahan!

Just wanted to get this going.

I still remember that St Pattys day game when he came up and scored his 1st two goals so vividly. Knew he would be special.

Thanks for the memories and good luck. As much as I feel moving on from him was the right business decision, I still will miss the player.

I will try to remember the Ryan Callahan of two years ago, who had clutch goals and put his body on the line every single night for his team.

I will try not to remember the Ryan Callahan of this season, who only showed up for one game a month and drove himself out of town with his ridiculous demands...later...

Big thanks to Cally. Class act all the time. Has been really good for us many years. I'll really miss you man

This. It's sad the way it's ended, but it is a business. He should've taken the 6m/6yr, that's an overpayment as is.

I don't think Girardi goes from alternate "A" to "C" right now. He'll get an "A" along with Staal and Richards. Re-evaluate next year.

It's shocking that over the last 14 years, my least favorite person of the Rangers has managed to trade my two favorite people in the Rangers organization.

I agree that a captain should be named for stability reasons, but I honestly can't see AV naming one until the summer. Would love to see Girardi or McDonagh with it though.

And the last member of the Pack Line is gone, and so is the hard-working blue-collar identity that went with it.

One of my favorite memories of Cally was during the final minutes of the 2008 ECQF against the Devils. He hustled, forechecked, and pinned the puck in the offensive zone to take time off the clock and prevent the Devils from getting a scoring chance. It was nothing flashy, but his work ethic and effort was off the charts on the play. He always did the little things right. When I remember Cally as a Ranger, it won't be for his scoring prowess or skill but rather his heart, dedication, and hustle.

I still periodically watch the videos of Cally scoring 4 on the Flyers and of Cally and Dubinsky beating the Pens shorthanded. Dang.

Dang dang dang dang dang.

It should be McDonagh, without a question IMO.

His future is solidified, Staals is not.

McDonagh is one of the best defensemen in the game and currently our best player, plays super hard, and leads by example on the ice. (not saying Staal doesn't play hard, but where will Staal be in a couple of years)

Not a big fan of giving someone the captaincy just so he sticks around.

Mixed emotions; I want to thank Ryan for all the Steven McDonald award type work he did for all those years. But, when the chips were down and he had to decide what it was worth to remain captain of the Rangers he held to contract demands that just cannot be justified. At even strength he is an average player. He excels on the PK and PP but we can replace that production; not to mention he recent injury problems.

I wish him luck but I'm not emotional about this and I should be since he was our captain.

Thanks Cally. The memories of you and Dubi hooking up to beat the Pens with dramatic, high light reel goals remind me of some of my favorite times as a Rangers fan. It's bitter sweet. I think it's the right time to part but you will be missed. This way, though, you'll be remembered fondly instead of having your legacy tarnished by becoming a declining, overpaid player in NY.

Duby, Arty and Cally all gone over a span of 2 years. That's pretty surreal...

Anyway. Loved Callahan's game. Thanks for all the good moments, cap!

Dan Girardi or Marc Staal.

And thank you, Captain Callahan. You busted your ass for this team and wore the C well.
