Who to lose

Isn't Yak a RW though?

Yeah, I worded it kind of badly. Edmonton proposal wasn't tied into them having available centers. Just thinking maybe one of their young forwards could be available if they could get a warrior like Girardi in return, something they need desperately.

You could probably get a vet #4 defenseman on a 1 year contract if Girardi is traded, along with a young forward. Or we could sign a defenseman like Ian White as a transitional player. Hopefully McIlrath can make the team next year and work his way into Girardi's spot by 2014.

You don't move top pairing RD until you have a replacement in mind, not a band aid solution.
Even with Girardi, the team is still looking for a top 4 RD, Stralman and Eminger are not cutting it.
When McIlrath is ready, he will be one of the top 4 RD, you would still be missing one.
Getting a top 4 RD in the Gaborik trade if there is one, or another way, would be the first step.
If Girardi is to be traded, it's next year, when they have their ducks in a row.
IMHO.

Please do this . Building from the goal out was a good try but it looks to have fell short and now has bottomed out . NYR desperately need scoring and speed .

Staal-Del Zotto
McDonagh-Stralman
White-McIlrath
Eminger

D isn't bad. The top-3 is still ridiculous. I think Stralman can handle it, he's been handling it his entire time here.

Del Zotto struggles on the right side.
Stralman has been struggling lately, he is in the dog house.
Again, I am not against moving Girardi, but getting his replacement ahead of time would be my plan.

Sounds kind of ridiculous that we hope McIIrath can make the team by next season(Sept, 2013)or 3 full years after he was actually drafted. Yep, hockey is definitely different here especially when it comes to developing players!

A healthy Sauer would make moving Girardi an easier pill to swallow. Oh, well. Still, Staal, McD and MDZ, are more important signings than Girardi down the road. I keep throwing out the "Girardi for Bogosian" fantasy proposal, but he is the type of young RH D-man that would be perfect, especially with his shot from the point.

Ummmm....no, it's not ridiculous for a defenseman. Some defenseman take years to develop.

Big Dman take time to develop, look around the league.

It's amazing how many poor shooters the Rangers draft or acquire .
Girardi
MDZ
STAAL all can't get shots through or on net . Your think they would t try and work on it . Staal has a good low shot but takes about a year to get it off . Girardi and McD both flip writers on net . I wish one of them would learn a half wind up slapper like so many great D men used over the years and got it on net

No offense, I just think that when you spend a 10th pick overall on any player, you really need to push the chip a little bit to see what you have already. We aint going anywhere; bring him up for a cup of coffee.

Staal...drafted in 2005...took three years to make the NHL, and he was a much more polished D-man than McIlrath in his draft year.

McD...drafted in 2007...made the NHL to stay in 2011, even after spending time at a quality college program like Wisconsin...also much more polished than McIrath.

Sauer...drafted in 2005...full-time starter in 2010...five years later.

Nothing ridiculous at all if McIlrath is not quite ready to start next year in NY.

Nice examples. These players aren't offensive defenseman, who are generally the ones to start fairly early, like DZ. McIlrath still has plenty of time to develop.

Allright; I'll give up and be patient!

I'd love to see McIlrath with the Rangers to start the season next year. I just don't believe it would be a failure on the part of the organization if they feel he still needs more time. I was someone very critical of the pick, and wanted Tarasenko. But, I can see what Clark and Gorton saw in McIlrath. Yes, he's big and mean, but he does have good hands and feet for someone his size.

Regarding Stralman, Eminger, Hamrlik. Teams like to stock up on d-men at the deadline. It's just the way it is. I have nothing against Stralman--who's basically played well for us two years in a row--he's just not on the level of Staal, McD, Girardi or Del Zotto. I think he's proven he can play a regular shift on a very good team. That makes him valuable--worthy of a very good prospect--possibly a 2nd round pick. Eminger is a gamer. A bottom pairing guy but he's still a legit NHL player--a 3rd to 5th. He's UFA anyway. We can sign him again. Hamrlik has tons of experience. He's not played all that well but he was good in last year's playoffs. A good insurance policy for a playoff team--a 3rd to a 5th again.

I really don't like a lot of our bottom six guys. It's not to say I blame them for our performance, but they just don't do it for me. Powe, Pyatt, Boyle in particular. Asham has grown a little on me, but I'd still rather see what Haley can do. Newbury is OK, but OK isn't good enough.

As for defense...I like what we have and I hope they don't move any of them, save Hamrlik, unless it's for the right price. Will I be heartbroken if Stralman or Eminger get dealt? No. But I don't see the point either. They're probably a big reason this season hasn't gone even worse.

Also, if it means making room for Dan Boyle, I'm all for getting rid of any of our lefty defensemen other than McDonagh. We'd finally have someone capable of QBing the powerplay.

A healthy Sauer will always be a liability if he comes back. A physical d-man that's one bad hit away from retirement can't be a major factor in your plans.

Based on the handedness of our defensemen alone, there's no way Girardi goes anywhere.

Every player is one bad hit away from retirement. All it takes is just one.

so we're wanting to trade away Stralman, Eminger, and Hamrlik?

Staal, Mcd, Del zotto and Girardi are good and all, but uhhh.. you need at least 7 dmen.. Stralman is a great #5/6 dman.

Boyle and Powe at least aren't useless like Pyatt.. Powe/Boyle are good on the PK, forechecking, etc.

Does Dan Boyle come with either a time machine back to the torts old days of yore or does SJ eat salary ?
