The problem with moving Girardi is he is by far our best right side defenseman. Beyond that having four solid guys like Staal, Girardi, McD and MDZ in front of Hank means that if we've got any decent offense in any given year we should be a pretty good team. To me those four our just core players. Good citizens as well. Anyway another thing about Girardi is he can play 25-30 minutes a night game after game with very good defensive play and a bit of offensive contribution--play physical and not be taking penalties. He's not the fastest skater but he's smart and he knows his limitations. I'd only move him if the return were really, really good.

Richards is more likely to be bought out than traded because of his contract and cap hit.

Stralman and Eminger should have some value. Vet d-men at the trade deadline usually do. Playoff teams want to stock up on them. Stralman's a better player but Eminger is more of a gamer. Hamrlik's an experienced guy as well and played well in the playoffs last year. Gilroy IMO is practically worthless.

I would think Boyle would as well--despite his crap year and the bad stats. He's huge, decent on face-off and can kill penalties and in the past he's shown some offense. Should be able to get at least a 2nd for him.

Gaborik could get us a huge return. I wouldn't trade him for peanuts. You have to decide what you think is fair and if you can't get it--you keep him. I'd want more than what the Pens paid for Iginla--and Boston might be a team willing to pay that.

Other than that I don't know if we have much to move.

I agree for sure. Like I said, I love the guy, but if we were to move any of them i think he would be the player to move. Last year we were a solid, really good team, and our ability to completely shut down other teams was key in our success. He was a big part of that as well as our other D-men and Hank (of course) I'd love to focus on the forwards and the system and try to keep all our D-men and revert back to 2011-2012 form, but like you said, if the price is right, I think I'd be comfortable with it.

Agree on the Gaborik comment as well. Although it seems otherwise by the comments made about him from other HF posters (mostly from other teams) I think GMs still covet the former 40 goal scorer. He's having a down year but can still land us some nice pieces. Moving him would be our best bet since I just don't see him producing much for us this year, maybe next year, but If the return is a couple of high end prospects and a 1st, I personally pull the trigger.

If we were to trade Gaborik it would be for a 1st, high potential prospect, and a few depth players with scoring ability I would think. But again that's at this deadline. If we did it in the offseason or next deadline it would probably be way different.

Rangers need a bit more back. Bogosian only has 6 pts and Girardi has 11... Girardi better 2 way defenseman.... i like Bogosian but not at the price of Girardi unless a skilled forward comes back

id love Mark Stuart though... some nastiness in front of Lundqvist is a must for this soft defense

I'd watch him a bit more, he's been pretty bad this year from what I've seen.

Highly doubt that'll happen.

You're right. There is no way WPG deals Bogosian for Girardi. Bogosian is 22 years old and it's not like he's having an awful season or something. Not the greatest, but nothing that'll make you think trade.

Remember that the Jets are still actually in "build and patience"-mode. We're waiting for players like Scheifele and Trouba for next year (alongside rooklies like Lowry). If we make the playoffs this year, we're at least one year in front of our timetable. We're not in win-now-mode at all.

I'd watch him a bit more, he's been pretty bad this year from what I've seen.

well im hoping for that type of player with a mean streak. at least until McIlrath becomes 100% ready.. no sense to have alot of pressure for McIlrath to be the 20 year old to be the only crease clearing tough defenseman

I know I'm going to get flamed for saying this, but I'd move Girardi for the right price. He's a great D-man and I love the guy, but I think his value right now is worth more than his recent play.

no way you move him.. hes to valuable.. top pairing RD's are way to hard to come by in this league.. if any d is moved it will be DZ, but i doubt hes moved.. only way they are moved is if we cant afford to keep all of them.. bc there salary demands.. but honestly we wont have to worry about that for at least another season or 2.. i think the core can stay together long term..

and to the list.. id consider moving all of them.. Richard is a no go tho.. will be bought out in 14'..

Gaborik i'd def consider moving for a good package.. 1st, prospect with high upside, young fw top 6/top 4 d with potential..

and the rest prob dont have the most value to get something decent back accept pending UFAs and late round picks..

i want to see McIrath up here to get a few games, cant be any worse then Stralman, Eminger (whos been solid, considering) hams, gilroy etc.... has anyone heard/seen how hes playing? you think hes close?

I think the window of opportunity for this team to win is this year and next year with the guys that will be free agents after next year - Callahan, Lundqvist, Girardi, Gaborik. That is why I don't think there will be any major moves for next year, except for maybe Gaborik. With the cap going down next year and the Rangers having to resign McDonagh, Stepan and Hagelin, I think Gaborik is a potential casualty just to free up some money.

They would probably better suited to wait to trade him at the draft if they decide to. I can also see the Rangers doing a buyout of Richards after the 2013-2014 season.

richards and gabs will be traded/bought out before we lose MCD Hags Step and any of our young players.. id rather pay them bc they're young and only going to get better then have these guys.. i love young teams.. they play with more hunger..

Rangers are in the ****hole right now and the trade deadline is blooming. Who would you get rid of?

My List
Arron Asham
Brian Boyle
Marion Gaborik (depending on value)
Taylor Pyatt
Brad Richards (depending on value)
Steve Eminger
Matt Gilroy
Anton Stralman
Martin Biron

The above list shows some players that really haven't done all that much (if any at all). Pyatt and Boyle have done absolutely squat this year and could receive some interest. Eminger has been showing defense lately, Gilroy is Gilroy, and Stralman is in a slump although I'd like to keep Stralzy. Asham is good on the 4th line so I'm 50/50. I hope they don't trade Gabbs at the deadline, but he's on the market so I had to throw his name in the hat and Richards is startng to gain some momentum, but not much. Don't really like Biron. Never have.

Thread synopsis: lose guys playing bad, keep players playing good. It's crazy, but it just may work.

How do you expect any real change if you're not looking to part with anyone of any real value, outside of possibly Gaborik? You think just shuffling around some garbage will bring any real return that will have impact?

You want a real return, with some new blood that can make a difference? You're moving Callahan, Stepan, McD, Girardi, or Staal. I'm not advocating that, but why bother posting a trade thread to change the direction of the team, when all you're looking to do is swap minor role players?

While it's very nice to daydream about who we can get rid for a decent return at the deadline, it aint happening as long as Glen Sather is still the GM here.
It will be business as usual on wednesday, the 3rd meaning "No Moves."

Arron Asham- Trade, two good games where he gave ten mins, and hasn't stepped up when needed, clear the cap, get a return.

Brian Boyle- Keep unless return is high. Fills role, and locker room guy, but if the return is a prospect worthy of a first. Upgrades Pyatt's current role, but with PK, and faceoff ability, and locker room glue. Needs hug.

Marian Gaborik- Trade, he will cash in with a big cap hit, and has mailed in two seasons. Return can fill holes on team, sustain core. Absolutely trade. He gets fresh start, and hype, cashes in for rest of NHL career.

Taylor Pyatt- Trade, no pk, and low value 5 on 5 minutes, no block shots or grit. Rid.

Brad Richards- one more year to see, with him and Torts tied at the hip.

Steve Eminger- Trade. Like him, but when a good play is also a surprising one, then your skating on thin ice. Need better skater/athlete in that role. McIlrath hopefully, or a righty D that can take some physical pressure off G.

Matt Gilroy- Minor league callup. This is the injury fill in. Mentally soft, and will cave against tight checking, but can spell minutes for depth. Choose him over Emmy cause of skating ability, and played very solid when matched up.

Anton Stralman- Trade if upgrade is available. Can't play elevated minutes every night, but is valuable in insulated role. If top 4 offensive RHD is acquired, I would trade and fill the spot with a bruising RHD.

Martin Biron- Keep. Looks older this year, but candidates for back ups will cost money or uncertainty. Gets along with Hank, but if a cheap lateral move can be made, then pull the trigger. Talbot is an NHL style goaltender, Missien is huge, but more experience is needed at that spot. More athletic veteran, that Hank can chill with otherwise keep.

The only season he mailed in was this one.

2010-11 he was legitimately injured most of the year and it was his first time learning this system.

Sather, Torts, Gáborík, Boyle, Pyatt, Asham, Powe, Richards in the offseason, Gilroy, Eminger is a good start

Look I just posted a few names that really have been cold. I'm willing to part with anyone except Lundqvist and Callahan because this team is in dire need of something. Whether it be a coaching change or depth move. I would put names like Hagelin, Kreider, McD, etc for a negotiation purposes because obviously teams want them. They would be moved for the right price so relax.... It's just a thread. ;)

Gaborik has mailed in 2 seasons? He was hurt for about 20 games one season and still put up 50 points. The other 2 seasons? 86 points and 76 points, almost 2 ppg seasons, yeah.. really mailed those in.

Ryan Clowe for a 1st + top prospect :sarcasm:

Rangers shouldn't make any moves at the deadline. We're not good enough anyway even if we make moves.

Curious question: When Gartner was traded at the deadline, was there a concern that the Rangers' chemistry would be disturbed?

Agree with this list, but for Stralman. Unless you're getting a RH D-man back, you can't move him.

Also, as regards the MDZ/Girardi debate, it's pointless until Staal proves he's healthy. At some point when he is healthy, you will need to move someone and while I agree that MDZ is a better asset to keep, again, we have the issue of LH/RH Dmen. Until one of them proves that they can play the right side or the team acquires at least one more (preferably two) top-4 RH Dmen, you have to move one of the LH triumverate before you move Girardi.

bc why would you trade Kreider, Miller, Stepan, Hags, Mcd Staal DZ when they are all under the age of 25 and are only going to improve, none are even in prime years yet, so we truely dont even know their tru potential yet I get your point but still the right price would have to blow us away to trade them.. success isnt like a light switch it takes time and patients.. we arent going to get better if we keep trading assests.. look how nash trade set us back.. everyone undervalued what dubi and aa meant to this team.. SO many people are impatient here its ridiculous.. I am glad some of you arent GMs bc wed be a lottery pick every year or making the big splashes in FA or making trades for best players.. you'd all be slats 2.0, which are prob the same people that criticize him..makes it even worse!!.. Consistency is the hardest thing for a pro athlete.. but when you add that to a young group it will be up and down.. we DONT NEED DRASTIC MEASURES!! it will not help us.. it.. will only set us back.. we made our splash.. Minor Tweaks, small trades, trade to get depth guys.. trim the fat!! buyout richards in 14' no use this summer noone else is available.. 14' much better class more room to make moves..
