Who to lose

Stralman 2nd pairing. U kidding me? Girardi should stay and should go no where,he is as solid as anyone on the blue line. I'd be quicker to package Staal before Girardi to be honest..I say it ow and have been for two years, don't get everyone's fascination with Staal,it's weird. NYR has played well any time he's been out..

Staal for Ryan straight up

seriously dont understand this trade girardi all of a sudden.. i realize for the right package everyone is available.. but that prob is the hardest beside 1c to find in this league.. a legit top pairing/4 rhd.. leftys are everywhere rhd so hard to find.. girardi's here long term.. if anyone is to go it will most likely be staal or DZ..

i would love Staal for Ryan.. only if we could assure McIrath is ready to play and we sure up bottom pairing d.. If Sauer was healthy as well iam sure one of Staal or DZ would have been traded for something nice already..

I don't know what's going on with McIlrath but I truly hope the best. Big tough nasty stay at home d man is what NYR needs badly. I agree Dz and Staal would be first to go before DG,hats how it should be. I just really want DZ to break out offensively,I'm a big fan of the kid

Ryan ? Meh , another flashy highlight reel dangler in the same vein as Nash . Nash seems to go from Monster to mouse too easily lately . If NYR were to move a player like Staal I personally would want a wing like ANDREW LADD ( I know he's not available but someone like him ) hard , tough and playoff proven .

Staal is out best defenseman. Girardi handles the puck like a grenade. Trading Staal for anything other than an upgrade would be huge mistake.

You might want to take a look at the games we've played since we lost Staal to injury... Staal is our best dman, its amazing people dont realize this yet. Mcdonagh will be better, but he's not right now.

I was a huge huge fan of Sauer, the kid would fight, pass, shoot do a little bit of everything. Reason he went round 2 in the draft is the reason he's out, injury prone and what a shame,he was my favorite d man while here. Played a complete game and McD and Sauer would have been bad ass along with DelZotto and Girardi. I'd have been more than pleased

Ladd for Staal No way. Ladd + for Staal, yeah all depends. But of course prying away anyone's capt is never an easy task. Yes when Ladd was drafted I wanted NYr to take him if possible of course

We cannot afford to trade any of our top-4D for offense. Who would you even want that would make trading Staal, McD, Girardi, even MDZ worth it? The team is built on defense and despite having a great Top-6 full of speed and talent on paper, we're still dead last in goals scored. Imagine a Rangers team that was abysmal on both sides of the puck and thats what you would have if Sather traded G, Mac or Staalsie for Ryan or any other sought forward.

This team gets pushed around. Guys like Gaborik, Richards and Nash are much less effective when matched with physicality. Last years squad had a lot more grit (Dubi, Sauer, Rupper, Prust, Bickel), and I know that grit doesn't win hockey games, but it gives the top guys more time and space, and holds the opposing players accountable for their actions. I think NYR's bottom-6 is desperate for a Lucic, Prust, Ott, Clowe type of player, especially in the playoffs when the going gets rough.

Worthless. Goodbye.

Richards
Tortorella
Sullivan
Pyatt
Hamrlik
Asham
Newbury

Don't necessarily need to go, but could be improved on

Girardi
Stralman
Gilroy
Biron
Gaborik
Del Zotto (meaning we get a better PPQB; Del Zotto himself isn't going anywhere at 22)

Anybody who wants to trade Staal must have a strong dislike for Henrik Lundqvist and total inconsideration for the amount of quality chances he faces.

I think McDonagh, albeit a little off this year, still has the tools to be an elite defensive player. But after that? Not a pretty sight on defense.

And allow me to reiterate because this thread is making me rage:

Saying Staal would go before Girardi is like saying Lundqvist would go before Biron. Girardi isn't in Staal's league. Staal is better at every single facet of hockey right down the line except shot blocking. I don't care if he's left-handed, right-handed, or shoots the puck with his ****in tongue. It's an insult to Marc Staal to even compare him to Girardi.

This team will always be able to prevent goals with Lundqvist in net - having players like Staal, Del Zotto, Girardi, and McDonagh is just ridiculous, to go along with that.

The offense? Not so much. Defense can win championships, but defense means **** if you can't score goals, something this team can't do. If we can improve upon our offense while sacrificing from a position of huge strength, I say go for it.

Is defense really that much a position of strength. They haven't played well at all this year.

Lundqvist has faced noticeably more quality chances this year than last imo.

The Rangers are 5th in the league defensively.

That's not ALL Lundqvist...he's an amazing goaltender, but no team is that good defensively without their defensive corp being a strength. Our defense and goaltending is some of the most impressive in the NHL.

The offense is literally the worst in the NHL. The imbalance there is a HUGE problem. You can prevent all the goals you want, but if you don't capitalize on your scoring chances, it's not going to matter. This team doesn't provide the defense and goaltending with enough offense - logically, you would move a piece from the defense to help add some offense, seeing as we have 4 1st pairing caliber players.

Well it's possible that perhaps I'm just noticing the same defensive mistakes and soft goals we had last year more because the lack of offense makes every goal against seem like the black plague. Lundqvist seems like he's not having a great year, but the stats are there, so it may be the offense just making everything look bad.

Like going down 1-0 last year was "oh well get it back boys" now going down 1-0 is "you just lost us the game Girardi/Hank, way to go dumbass"

That being said, the no shutouts thing does bother me alot.

I feel you on this one. Even though both Hank and the Defense are excellent, something does just seem off. It feels like there are more lapses. Maybe I'm subconsciously judging them more harshly because they literally need to hold teams to a single goal otherwise the game is as good as done.

I don't think I have agreed with you on anything, but I agree here.
