Pens greatness is about Crosby and Malkin. If they're off their game, Pens are sad to watch.

Don't give Shero 1st and 2nd OA back-to-back getting two of five players of the last 20 years and he'd be fired about three years ago. He build a team well in late 00s but did nothing to help them since.

Important to note that at the time when the Pens won the Cup they had Malkin and J.Staal on ELCs. That helps a GM. Then Shero completely fumbled team's transitions from cheap young players to expensive stars.

Caps aren't in the stage of the development when a GM like Shero would help. I'd hire him if I was Florida for example, to put young pieces together.

Ok, Boston's out. Let's get this show on the road already. It really seems like Ted Van Winkle just woke up and was shocked to discover his hockey team sucked. Totally unaware and unprepared.

Ted is clueless. We suffer.

We were clearly trouble in 1996-97 when, interviewed on TV, Ted referred to the 2nd Period of a Caps game as "the 2nd Half."

I think it's more that the Wizards are still alive. A lot of rumors have said the Capitals don't want to make any news until the Wizards are done.

@PollakOnSharks: #SJSharks Wilson on top scout Tim Burke's name being bandied about for jobs in VAN or WSH: "He's our employee and not going anywhere."

If we learned anything, Boston is a leaky ship.

Both Eastern finalists are smurfy high speed counterattacking teams with excellent two way defense and a world class G.

New model? Or do they finally build something befitting their most skilled players?

There has never been less hitting in the NHL that I can remember. Regular season, less and less every year, and likely in the playoffs too. Its not surprising to see the smurfs dominating.

Players like MP have never had it easier. Too bad we moved him for 1 year of 1M cap room.

Sarge too, now that they have finally removed touchups. No more glancing over at his partner as if too say I am not going to go get it. He is the only slow DD man that I have ever seen refusing to hustle back.

I'm not sure if this has already been posted but apparently in an interview on SportsTalk 570 Chuck Gormley mentioned that according to his sources Gretzky has had multiple interviews now with the Washington Capitals and from all accounts he will probably be team president. Not sure how reliable his sources are but still is interesting.

If Gretzky comes in and hires Feaster, Gillis or Regier then...game over.

I'll be surprised if Gretzky didn't learn from his mistakes in PHX. Also, I'm not sure which decisions were Gretzky's and which were not. He's not my first choice, I haven't studied the other candidates, but I wouldn't see Gretzky as president as a sure fail (not that anyone here is saying that). I am happy to give him a chance. He knows about winning hockey.

If I said this in the Buffalo board, I would probably be shot, but I really think Regier is a pretty decent GM and could do good things with Washington. I actually really like the idea of him in washington because you have the starpower on forward but suck at defense and goalie, and that just happens to be the reverse problem that regier has usually. I think he could right the Caps ship and they might even do some damage. The only issue is that your forwards aren't getting any older and defensemen take a lot of time to develop. :sarcasm:

a good marketing operation doesn't lose its good news in other bigger news when possible. if the caps have assets under contract, they need not announce hiring til they want to.

that doesn't mean I think they have hired anyone. but if they have hired gretzky, fenton and trotz and they are all contracted, why announced it while wiz are still in the playoffs?

Feaster is a Georgetown alum like Ted.

Secret handshake, you're hired.
