This team doesn't need Buff. That guy has disaster written all over him. That move reeks of desperation.

Why? He produces well from the back end. His defense is suspect but still better than MDZ's. Don't think it's a terrible move, and I have never been a team big fan of his. Less desperate than signing Prospal IMHO.

Regardless this season is nearly over for playoffs. Callahans body can't hold up. With Nash gone were set back to the 2005 season.

For sure...5 points out of a playoff spot only 10 games into the season, in the weakest division in the league to boot, were toast. No way any team could make up that ground in 70 games.

Bad news Rangers in 29th out of 30 teams...

Right now Rangers would most likely drafting 2ed overall.... maybe the Rangers can finally draft their own superstar instead of trading for an older overpaid one

He has a $5.2M cap hit and signed through 15-16. Del Zotto is at $2.55M. The Rangers are pressed up against the cap right now. What is Buff weighing these days? He is owed $5.75M this and next season. $6M is 15-16. Crazy.

Why does Sather even want this job anymore? He's beyond rich, he's basically retired. If he just leaves, he can be fully retired without even faking like he's trying to work anymore...and still be rich.

Sather, just go away. Please.

Cap would take some work sure, but if they plan on retooling for AV they might make room for a contract like that. Probably not the best option, but it's something to consider. I don't see why his weight is relevant he's put up 142pts in his last 203gp from the blueline. Like .7 PPG which would put him like 3rd on our team.

BTW, what a dumb poll in this thread. This team is way beyond one player being the problem. This team has an ownership problem.

Land of no calls..
Buff is a typical Rangers move. I mean that in the sense that we let another team do the developing and then we pay out the nose for him just in time to catch him on the down turn of his career. Where were the Rangers when Buff was being dealt out of Chicago? Our pro-scouting needs to find a guy who is ready to break out, not one who is already polished into a diamond.

Gardiner is/was a prime candidate. Fits a need, and was overshadowed by Reilly for a brief period earlier in the season. The warning signs were here. Make a smart trade before players can re-establish themselves.

Buff is not without warts but he does provide a big need for this team. A right handed triggerman for the powerplay. Not having a competent powerplay has cost this team many points in the standings in recent years. He would go a long way towards solving that problem.

That's a major commitment for a player.

Nash trade: "Wow, we didn't even give up a top young player! great trade slats!"
Gaborik trade: "Nice. we got some great pieces. Moore is awesome, and Brassard is godly"
Moore signing: "Good guy for the 4th line. Can fill in on the 3rd too"
Pouliot signing: "He has a lot of skill, and can be a great 3rd liner that can play on the 2nd in a pinch!"

That's the general reaction the people here have had for our recent moves. You agree with everything Sather does and think it's a great move, and then you complain about it a few weeks later. But clearly the HF master race knows more than Glen Sather.

Oh, and lest I forget: "How could they keep Richards this year. What an idiot Sather is. The guy won't put up 40 points, and should be benched!"
More genius hf predictions

Certainly, just discussing it though highly doubt it would happen, I do think he'd help hard to say if it would outweigh the cost though.. Probably better options out there, or at least will be in two to three weeks when teams start thinking more about making moves.

We do need a year where we draft a superstar, it's what we've missed all these years. A top liner who is on a cheap elc instead of making 7 mil and crippling this team
