Nash trade: "Wow, we didn't even give up a top young player! great trade slats!"
Gaborik trade: "Nice. we got some great pieces. Moore is awesome, and Brassard is godly"
Moore signing: "Good guy for the 4th line. Can fill in on the 3rd too"
Pouliot signing: "He has a lot of skill, and can be a great 3rd liner that can play on the 2nd in a pinch!"

That's the general reaction the people here have had for our recent moves. You agree with everything Sather does and think it's a great move, and then you complain about it a few weeks later. But clearly the HF master race knows more than Glen Sather.

Oh, and lest I forget: "How could they keep Richards this year. What an idiot Sather is. The guy won't put up 40 points, and should be benched!"
More genius hf predictions

What fans think of the individual moves isn't relevant. We don't get paid to build a winning team. Sather does, and so far he hasn't come close to achieving that.

1) This isn't an even remotely accurate depiction.

2) Isn't Sather supposed to be better at this? Isn't the standard higher for the great architect of the fabled Oiler dynasty?

Can anyone name the last first line player we drafted and developed? Kovalev??

Marc Savard well after he was traded he turned into a 1st line player.. does that count :help: played with the Wolfpack so they did develop him only to trade him

you know.. the two oldest GMs in the league, have teams with bad records.. why is that.. well the game has passed them by.. both Lou and Sather should retire already :help:

The Nash trade was a good trade. The Gaborik trade was a good trade. Dominic Moore is a 4th line center who can probably play 3rd. Pouliot isn't a bad player. Richards was on pace for a 60 point season last season. Cap recapture. Injury risk. Richards has slowed down. He will still get his points. He gets hurt and can't be bought out. Big risk. The team is 3-7 with him. Its hard to have both Gaborik and Richards on the roster with a $64.3M cap. Especially when the Rangers have so much $ commited in their bottom six players.

Rangers should look to tweak, not overhaul...

Buyout Richards,
Trade/Part ways with Pouliot, MZA, Boyle, D. Moore, Pyatt, Falk, etc
Use chips like MDZ, Stralman, or Both to improve elsewhere.
Stockpile picks, and get younger.

Kreider - Stepan - Nash
Hagelin - Brassard - Callahan

Fill in the bottom 6 with whatever kids are ready or AHL vets like Asham and Powe till next season. It's not much different than what we currently have, so its not a super shock of a change, but its enough that we'd get younger and faster.

No big moves this offseason, keep developing. It's a process. Enough talent on the top 6 to be a good team, to be a playoff team.

Right now were getting NOTHING from a lot of guys who are good players. It'll come.

This shouldnt be a lost season, it should be, and was always going to be, a transitional season. Wanna play a transition game? Cant have snails like Boyle, Pyatt, and even Richards out there.

Lots of injuries have killed us too.

Develop...Develop...Develop.

Sounds like more of the same ol' ****, if you ask me.

You statements about filling in the 3rd and 4th lines with "kids from the AHL" or "Powe and Asham for a year" are dubious.

The Rangers need to follow Neil Smith's model between 1989 and 1994. Smith inherited all the Patrick/Espo youth like Leetch, Richter, Amonte, Mallette, Dahlen, Turcotte, Granato, Miller.

The first thing he did was give them a chance, and in 1989 they stunk the first half of the season. Then he made the Nicholls blockbuster (Nicholls had 70 goals the year prior) at a very high price (Granato and Sandstrom were dynamic but both struggling).

IIRC Bernie joined the team and they hit the road and won huge games in LA and in Edmonton. The trade was a success, but adding Gartner for Dahlen made them a legit threat, all with Leetch having a miserable season.

Still, that Nicholls trade is what started making the Rangers a serious Cup threat. They won the division in 1990, should have won in 1991, and won President's trophies in 1992 and 1994. Anybody who followed the team back then is lying their ass off if they deny how dominant and fun to watch those teams were.

The Rangers need to start parting with their youth. They arent going to Cup contend with what they have. Even if the window is only 5-7 years old, they need to go for it.

And there's this misconception that 1994 gutted the team. It didnt. The trades Smith made after 1994 gutted the team. A defense of Zubov, Leetch, Beukeboom and Norstrom would have been one of the league's best. Smith was greedy and it cost him.

Seriously. Start cutting the cord. We all love prospects and original Rangers but this isnt working. Keep Henrik, keep McDonagh, keep Kreider and keep Staal. Everybody else, including Callahan, should be put on watch.

No, but at the time of these moves, people generally thought they were great, because we were winning games.

Now, that we're going through a bad streak, they suddenly change their mind about the trades.

I still like both trades.

That's cool. I do too.

I'm talking about people who base their opinion of these things on the past 10 games, and constantly change their opinion. (and think they'd be a good GM)

I'm not gonna look for specific people, but there's people here ragging on Pouliot that were ecstatic about the assignment a few months ago.

Most of those people who are whining about both trades now are likely the same people who have already declared this season over 10 games in and are hoping that we tank this season...that should explain that.

In a perfect world both those trades helped this team, do they look bad when we loose one of the biggest pieces and seriously miss him yes and does it hurt when the depth acquired in the other deal aren't playing all that well and picking up the slack hell yea. But I like both trades and I think by the end of the season when we get healthy and start playing the system seamlessly were going to be alright, some people just want to sulk in the now instead of looking ahead.

Trade ****ing Del Zotto tomorrow. He ****ing sucks. Our PP is awful when he is on the ice. AWFUL. He can't handle the puck. He telegraphs passes. He cant get shots through. He sucks. I cant watch him anymore. Time to move on from him

I agree. Michael Del Zotto is a poor hockey player. From watching him I notice when he sees someone open he is going to try to get it to them no matter what, even if they eventually are covered he is still going to try to get it to them. He does not make good decisions on the ice. He is not a good skater. I don't know what is good about him.

I had been a huge fan of del zotto since day 1 but enough is enough. He has been brutal. He makes stupid forced passes all too often on the PP.

I wonder if Ottawa would consider something like this:

MDZ + Zuccarello

For

Zibanejad + Ceci

Zib comes in to play LW. He fits with his size and speed. Ceci is a future puck mover.

MDZ goes to Ottawa to play in their top 4 and collaborate with Karlsson on the PP to replace Gonchar. MZA would fit in well with their bottom-6 of grinders who need an influx of skill and someone to control the puck and make a play.

I highly doubt it.

I doubt it. They'd probably want another good piece in return, Miller perhaps.

Not a chance from OTT

You want their two best prospects for Zucc and MDZ? Come on man. ;)

I agree w this. They have some good pieces just get healthy. All ufa bodies are not long term solutions except Cally n king of course. Maaaatbe zucc can earn a Rfa contract

I offer dz and stalman around. They need a good young rd and winger back
