He'll be on the second unit just like he was in the previous games he's played.

So with Giroux, Chabot, Pinto and Greig, not a bad group
Sure but expecting 20 goals and 50 points in a full season is unrealistic from Perron as a 2nd PP option

Good news bad news eh?
Hopefully DP can inject some energy into the dead offence of late.
Ya. He seemed a little snake bitten previously. Hopefully he gets a lucky one early and provides a spark.

I expect he will get a warm reception when they announce him.

Long overdue for DP.

Glad to have him back for sure. Sucks that it comes at the same time as Norris getting injured. Just the reality of the NHL nowadays, always 2-3 guys hurt at the same time.

I know a lot of people are unhappy with the signing, but I’m glad he’s back. Kind of like a TDL move for us. With a healthy roster, he’s a very useful guy you can move up and down the roster.

On an unrelated note, why does the title of this thread have him listed as a D?

Is it outrageous to suggest he could be bought out this summer?

A buyout doesn't save much in cap or real money, unless they don't think he will make the team.

2.66M spread over 2 years, but you also have to account for the cost to replace his roster spot, which is 775k+. So a buyout costs 3.41M in total when considering all the economic costs.

Buying out Perron and replacing him with a 775k+ player does free up about 1.9M next season, but that comes at the tradeoff of 1.33M on the books the season after that. So it only really makes sense if they are 1.9M away from a very important move, to the point that they can justify losing 1.33M of cap in 2026-27.

Maybe they send him somewhere else as part of a bigger trade, but I think they probably gamble on keeping him. Part of why they acquired him was to add to the veteran presence, and Staios was very candid last year about how difficult it is to acquire good solid veteran leaders. I'm sure they are disappointed in his level of play, but his cap hit is a sunk cost.

Coming back from injury
Though to play against
Give him more time…..
There’s always going to be next year…

David Perron is a bottom 6 forward but he’s been alright.

Posters above going to regret some of their comments when he scores goal for us in the playoffs. Watching him since his return he feels like he has some huge goal to score for this team down the stretch.

Let’s hope we make the playoffs so he can score that big goal.

Been so long since we’ve made the playoffs - forgot how weak kneed the fans are. Of course we are making the playoffs have some faith. What team worries you - Detroit, Columbus? C’mon, as a fan base Man up

People in this thread came for me when I called him washed. The verdict is in - he’s completely done.

I literally called it. My Detroit fan friend said he was washed and couldn't keep up anymore.

How is it that a random Detroit fan living in Almonte knows more than our GM or pro scouts?

I feel like dorion did the same shit. They all sign a bunch of washed 30+ year olds that are gone a year later. Why?

Sign a 28 year old who can actually have runway left, and would still have loads of pro experience. Not 34 year olds unless they're all star level players and we're trying to get over the top for a cup run.

With the cap going up drastically, I would take the cap savings next year and assume we don't need the 1.33 in 2 years when the cap is like 100m

They have to make the playoffs. Losing 4 in a row with half our best players missing? We're the mustang that is losing control during the race, and going off into the crowd.

Ottawa worries me.

It's not that those other teams are great...it's that Ottawa keeps tripping over their own feet.

4 losses in a row and counting.

Every time we play good hockey to get our hopes up, we always go on some big long losing streak.

We're doing it again.
