No, nothing has changed in regards to organizational needs or Wallstedt's potential in the Wild org. He is a very young goalie still and the Wild's AHL team is nothing like the NHL team when it comes to structure, for a positional goalie, that is extremely important. Fleury retiring is known following this season, goalie is not a position that we can trade away.
Knies as a left handed powerforward is much more redundant in the Wild org as well, Boldy, Kaprizov, Foligno, Trenin are all maintstays and Ohgren is their prospect version of that role. The Wild would not use a premium asset on that player type when they have other needs.
This... there's nothing wrong with saying that this would be an easy no from both teams.
Knies fills a massive gap / need for the Leafs right now, and his numbers are showing why. His weaknesses (creativity) are extremely well insulated by the fact that the Leafs have Matthews/Marner/Nylander. Minnesota has players similar to Knies... and probably doesn't have the personnel to get his numbers up like the Leafs do.
Minnesota may not "need" goaltending this year, but they almost certainly do next year... and Wallstedt fits that need perfectly. On the Leafs side of things, they've got Stolarz with another year. Woll with 3 years, Hildeby, and even Artur Akhtyamov has looked really good so far. There's no real need for Wallstedt.
That being said, fanning the flames of this thread, I'd probably go out on a limb in saying that if you surveyed the other 30 GMs in the league, and they had the opportunity to get both of these guys, but had to pick 1, I'd imagine that the vast majority would pick Knies.
