If I said knies is a top line NHL player and Wallstedt is an AHL goalie, it's technically correct but obviously done in bad faith but you have 0 problem pretending Knies is what he is at 21 while Wall has unlimited potential?
Let's say Knies hits his potential, which some people put him as a Blake Wheeler type. And let's say Wallstedt hits his potential, which I know is lazy but Lundqvist. I wouldn't trade Lundqvist for Wheeler.

I dont disagree at all. I also think Wallstedt is a better prospect than Knies but using the argument of "Knies is only this while Wallstedt could be his max potential!" is disingenuous.

Honestly.. that's not such a cut & dry thing either.

Sure, in isolation you can certainly say that Wheeler has more value than Lundqvist, but if Winnipeg already has Hellebuyck, then you're probably not doing that deal...

And therein lies the challenge. Goalies can either have immense value to the point of being untradable (the true #1 guys), or they're backups, and sort of a "who cares" approach.

If Wallstedt develops into what everyone thinks he's capable of, he's untouchable... but if he stops a little short of that, he's just reasonable tandem goalie and guys like that are very easy to find and replace.

Knies may not turn into Blake wheeler putting up multiple 90 point easons and a bunch more in the high 60s to mid 70s... but even if he's a guy that's a consistent 60 point guy who occasionally gets into the 70s; he'd still be a very valuable player.

Knies loking like a stud with 7 goals already this season maybe the scale is tipping over to his advantage in this poll?i am especially interested to se if Minnesota is more willing now to trade Wallstedt for Knies? My feeling when i did this poll was they where very close.

While I feel the same way about poster's mocking Leaf fans for wanting to keep Knies, this is way too early to make any kind of call on Wallstedt.

No, nothing has changed in regards to organizational needs or Wallstedt's potential in the Wild org. He is a very young goalie still and the Wild's AHL team is nothing like the NHL team when it comes to structure, for a positional goalie, that is extremely important. Fleury retiring is known following this season, goalie is not a position that we can trade away.

Knies as a left handed powerforward is much more redundant in the Wild org as well, Boldy, Kaprizov, Foligno, Trenin are all maintstays and Ohgren is their prospect version of that role. The Wild would not use a premium asset on that player type when they have other needs.

Iowa Wild has been one of the worst teams in the AHL for almost the past 3 seasons; it's way too early to tell with Wallstedt. He had one bad game that tanked his sv% and his GAA. He's doing fine and is actually looking better.

Easy no from the wild.

Knies is a passenger on the leafs and Walllsted is still projected to be a number 1 goalie

You do not trade a passenger for a guy who is projected to be a number 1 goalie.

Many oiler fans are still PISSED we did not draft him. The two picks we used? Were jumk
Wallstedt is not exactly lighting AHL on fire

I am, sorry can’t make myself watch Iowa games, but I remember he was also lit up in the NHL

He played in 3 games on a very injured Minnesota team; he was not lit up. He had a 2-1 record with one bad game, one okay game and one good game.

He was also 21 years old at the time. His first game was against the Dallas Stars (a very good if not great hockey team) and that was a bad game. But he had a good game against the Blackhawks (faced 24 shots and shut them out) and an okay game against the San Jose Sharks (faced 29 shots, saved 27). I'm not worried that in his first ever NHL game he got lit up by a Dallas Stars team as a 21 year old.

I think the point isn't that the Wild should definitely do this trade. The point is Leafs fans were being mocked for saying no, which looks really stupid when Knies fits like a glove on their top line and they already have solid goaltending depth.

This ; Wallsteadt could be a stud but Knies is much better then he was described throughout this thread . This “ maybe he’ll be a top 6 forward , or passenger on a scoring line “ doesn’t characterize him properly

What do you mean by Passenger? If you are an Oilers fan, it's like calling Hyman a passenger to McDavid last year.

…well Hyman was a passenger

You don't score 50 goals by just existing. Sorry, lots of players come and go that never are able to cut it despite being talented. Hyman and Knies are similar in why they work, their skillset enables their team mates.

Hyman did a lot more than stand there with a stick on the ice and score 50 goals. He was key in a lot of those guys with his willingness to be at the net and his board play. Knies doing the same thing this year, going to the net, winning battles down low and on the boards, banging in pucks.

Toronto's goaltending depth internally is great and Knies fits the team like a glove, so Toronto definitely turns it down.

Also under the impression that Minnesota is strong at wing as well so can see why they turn it down too.
