The "Hockey is our game" canadians. When ever i see a fan holding a sign like that or somebody writing that sentence in social media or something, i lose my temper complitely. It is so annoying, hockey gets bigger and better when there is more countries involved ! ! !

And if Canada is losing/loses in a game and i have seen that sign/sentence then i start using that ,for example in the 2018 Olympics. When Germany whooped Canada in the semifinals, i was trolling in twitter that "Hockey is Germany's game". And that lead to a huge war of words with some canadians.

I met many canadians in the 2016 WJC tournament and all them were very nice people. Canadian fans even started a "Let's go Finland"-chant in the gold medal game against Russia. That really got me emotional back then, granted i had been drinking since the quarterfinals but i was very impressed. Finland defeated Canada in the quarterfinals, and canadian fans are chanting let's go Finland in the gold medal game. Ain't all hockey fans great?

But the most likeable fans are the czechs and the slovaks. Great great people.

Many fellow finnish fans are quite annoying. "a pessimist will not be disappointed" is an old finnish saying and many many finnish hockey fans are pessimistics. They just bitch and moan, how much the team sucks and how they are going to lose every game and how lucky we will be if we don't relegate. Oh and my personal favourite, "i will not watch a single game".

Erikfromfin (is that his exact name?) by himself has boosted the Finns to the top in this ranking ;)

Definitely gotta be Canuckistan. Americans aren't smart enough on matters of amateur hockey to really get annoying on the subject. (see what I did there? offended both Americans and Canadians lol).

This culturually evolves naturally where you live more than half your life surrounded by death. Not your pesky cozy winters with some snow and getting late to work. I'm talking living in -30 and having actual storms. It's not easy to learn to endure. Endless distances of nothing but a harsh nature around you. So beautiful and cruel. Nature doesn't give a shit about you if you crash your car in the middle of nowhere. Actual conditions and not just your instagram status kind of weather, you know? Where the status of your twitter followers is nowhere as near close to important as: will my roof collapse or is it time to go out and get some work done by shoveling?

We're talking about a climate where university students annually die from getting drunk and falling asleep outside. Instant death.

Practical sense. Very useful. What happens if all elictricity disappears for two weeks? Do you trust this? So, northeners are more relaxed, more sceptical towards authority (f*** off!), not as interested in nonsense and are very down to earth. Yes. Stubborn of course, because us northerners know you southerners are emotional, shallow idiots unless proven otherwise. Surprisingly most of you are reasonable people if you snap out of it.

But generally, you're too far down the drain to hold authority on any subject, sadly. You need a brown paper bag, urgently. You just have no clue because you have been taught to rationalize anything. Absolutely anything. Especially in no time. The answers come after the argument, two weeks or so.

But if you have managed to depict your entire demographic picture of alot of people with them being "half Leestadians", I have no clue how you can be so ignorant about the north. You're analyzing as I see it two extremely secular countries on this planet and you... I'm going to have to stop there. Your statement was not noted. I cannot see the similarities between northern Finland and Alabama. Although the analysis of a southern Finn was quite accurate. That was mine, I guess.

But in another way, if the worst insult towards the north of Scandinavia is being "Laestadians", I have about eight much worse towards my depictions of the south. Can you please just be done with your delusions, tell us to scram so we both can form our own authorities? So you can self implode the best you want in your own mirror image of eternal, exponential growth while the north can try to form something functional and sustainable that at least survives the seasons.

Learning a lot about Finnish culture ITT

What kind of pseudo-scientific mumbo jumbo are you on about? What Swedish press exactly? Every single one of their newspapers? How and regarding what?
Classic low self esteem? Have you been in Finland? Do you know the majority of finns in the world? Or is it that you just like to generalize a whole lot and make it easy for yourself?

This is hilarious. You are proving his point with your triggered low self esteem reply

Still, they don't enjoy seeing hitting in hockey as much as fans from this side of the pond do and historically it has always shown itself in it's reffing style and fans reactions to any sort of hard but legal check. Even today you get called more often for good hard hits from refs there just because they are used to less of it in their game.

NA hockey is just more edgy all around and their fans just expect and enjoy more hitting even without the "ankle breaks" as you described. There is a natural divide between that among both fan bases due to how the game developed in both places. European fans don't mind hitting in the game, but they tend not to get as big a kick out of it as N.A fans do.

Speaking of stereotypes you just demonstrated the oldest in the book european fans still cling to with the ankle breaking remark.. That belief among their fans is a couple decades out of date now, no longer based in any kind of reality on the ice anymore then the " chicken Swede" one is.
I did the ankle breaking comment on purpose because it is a dumb stereotype. The way I see it the game is developping in the opposite direction just look how the reffing in the NHL has changed and compare todays fourthliners with those in the 90ies. The fact that there is no more red line offside and the change of the interference rule plus the significantly higher speed led to that change. I agree that a player should pay the price when curving through the neutral zone with his head down and I do like open ice hits I just don't appreciate cheering blind side hits and headhunting unlike many others...

Why? I don't agree regarding his comments about Sweden either? Time to sharpen your reading skills perhaps? In what way do I prove his point? Because i´m not agreeing with simple generalizations of different nationalities? What should we people be then? Racists, all of us? No thank you.

I'm mainly talking about the evening papers, Aftonbladet and Expressen. Yes, I have been in Finland and no, I do not know the majority of the Finns in the world as you obviously do. Sorry for not making that completely clear as I realize there is a big risk of misunderstanding.
I'll try to do better in the future and include a disclaimer in everything I write.

edit. disclaimer: When I state that I will include a disclaimer in everything I write I do not mean absolutely every single thing. If I happen to write for instance a shopping list, a disclaimer might not be included. This just to clear things up.

Lol I’m American and voted for the US because.. come on, we can be obnoxious arrogant pricks about anything. Although ya, in actuality Canadians can be a bit snobby on the hockey front.

Switzerland got at least an honourable mention in the thread lol. I don't know if you can really break it down to the nation or rather to the mindset of certain posters. since i follow Canada's games on TSN I know the reason for certain views and behaviour it's not exactly characterised by humility and respect for the opponent...

For me it's pretty easily Canada.

Finland's got some persistent fans too, but it's hard sometimes to see if they're entirely serious with the most outrageous takes, so I tend to take most of it humorously.

Canadian fans
Worst sore losers
Unbearable winners

It all starts with TSN and the general mood. Yesterday before any games had been played they were predicting how Canada will win against USA in the finals. It's a foregone conclusion that Canada wins, or USA wins, no matter who else is playing and how often they win.

The ignorance runs deep and is taught on TV. We had Don Cherry for commentary forever. No wonder the viewers grow insufferable.

The TSN obsession with Canada v USA is a bit much, literally in every roster projector for the Olympics or WJC they have to mention how both team compare to each other; as if there aren’t European countries who are just as good if not better

As you, probably, know internet (HF-Boards) ain't real life; and when onboard the HF-Boards ship you can be kicked out the mothership; and that in less time than a finger-snap:thumbu: if you're too harsh or merciless:naughty:.
But real life and live is another thing.

Because of that I vote - Sweden.

Heureka.

Maybe baby I may be right or I may be wrong - but overall Sweden think they are the King Kong of the North. Top dog. Even today. In everything. A syndrome from way back when they conquered Europe but the thing they (Sweden) always forget to mention and remember:

They always, always had Finland on their side.
Remember; Sweden has never even started a war on their own, nevertheless won one, without Finland on their side. But do the (Sweden) history books tell this story?

No.

Because Finland "belonged" to Sweden back then, they think.

So keep on pumpin' your chest Swedes ... and one thing more; you do maybe have the worst racist-forum I've ever read on Internet: Flashback Forum, with millions of members, yikes:eek:.
Nothing to be proud of.

I will say that Canadian and American fans are the least likely to bring up historical wars as if they are somehow relevant to a hockey discussion.
