LOL. I'd say people in the northern part of Finland and Sweden are very much alike. Down to earth, don't take themselves too seriously while people on the south has this incomprehensible need for getting aproval from others and look good for them.

But about us Finns, we might seem stolid and unemotional in everyday life, but the truth is that in sports we are totally manic-depressive - either we are the best ever and screw everyone else or we are the worst ever and everyone else is better... We really don't do nuance when it comes to sports fandom. So formerly when we had lean times in player production, it was more on the pessimistic side and then in the recent years it has been more hype and triumphalism. And we are usually rather bloody minded whatever the thing we concentrate on, positive or negative (attitude known as "sisu").

And if you think that the leading Finnish hockey forum Jatkoaika is or has been mindlessly positive about players like Laine or Puljujärvi you can totally think again, it has been absolutely brutal both ways, and clearly mostly negative, and absolutely to an unreasonable degree either way - it's the Finnish way

We have a word for that in Finnish: ”juntti” which according to google translate means tölp in Swedish and yokel in English. Their most common trait is that they think everybody in the South (basically the bigger cities in Finland) are uptight assholes.

Canada mostly for having most fans, and therefore having fans who simply can't accept if they lose without boatload of excuses. Obviously, these types of fans exist in every nationality, but Canada has the most, so they stick out the most. There is sense of arrogance from some fans, that they are better simply for being Canadian (once again, appears with every nationality)

As for Finns, as one myself, I feel like the lack of success in sports generally makes us latch into any success. And we go from being down and not believing ourselves to just super obnoxious as soon as we win something.

And the prospect discussions. Every nationality overrates their prospects to some extent, but the sheer downplaying of rivaling prospects is just absolutely ridiculous. It like you can't even argue for your prospects.

It's really weird too. Would we be happy now if Laine or Kakko went first? Matthews is obviously much better player now, and while Kakko and Hughes are still young, Hughes is projecting to be comfortably better right now. Sure, different environments could result different projections for their careers, but I doubt anything would change that radically.

I do hope we get 1st overall from Finland at some point, just so some people can chill and see it's just a draft pick. Finland can have great players without ever having 1st overall selection.

If any foreigner asks me to describe the Finnish language, I would describe it like listening to an upset forest gnome. They're the best neighbours you can have. Dry humour, sarcastic, bitter and with alot of heart. Very down to earth. At least up here on the northern side, I imagine northern Finns think their southern dumbasses are as intolerable, ignorant and arrogant as we think of our southern Swedes.

I think they pretty much do A strange bunch, Northern Finns, half of them Laestadians, and all of them depressed and grim... This coming from a Southern Ostrobothnian Finn (the coastal Swedish speakers being quite another breed, stubborn buggers though and quite admirable, one must admit) , so maybe a slight caricature...

Well, one thing rather annoying about us Finns, and, btw, that in itself - in a meta-twist - is a very common trait among Finns, finding faults about compatriots - is this self-debasement. But to me I don't view it as terribly annoying or mutually exclusive across the fanbases. To me I just view it as some fans being a little too arrogant. Or in the case of Canada when there's a prospect on a favorite team that isn't getting enough ice time, is not getting enough appreciation from other fans, or if a certain player is cut before the tournament it can be pretty annoying.

Last year in particular the boo hooing about Caufield was very annoying.

Oh, have to give an HM to Russian fans during games, in the arenas. They will shout something that sounds like “SHAJBO!” all game. Alexei Zhamnov tried explaining to me what it means (“Puck!”?), and that it essentially means “Get the puck in goal”? Dunno, but it’s so loud and annoying….
