Brodzinski and Edstrom, I'd like to see both on the fourth line. I know they wouldn't recall both (unless they completely move on from Wheeler or Vesey) but I'd like to see it.

I can see what they are trying to do with Bonino and Goodrow; they want to have the best special teams they can. I doubt they will bring up rookies or journeymen to the 4th line given that.

I get it, too. My guess is that things will kind of even out and the PK will fall off a bit, while the absolutely abysmal play of the fourth line will start to bite us in the ass 5v5. And at that point we'll have to make a change or two.

Althought this ended well, ok I'm officially worried about the 4th line and can't lie Wheeler seems to be having more blemishes stand out.

Perhaps swap him and Vesey? That would be my first move.

Reactions: The Crypto Guy
Yea, Gustafsson looked absolutely awful yesterday, in addition to his 2 terrible penalties. Don't care what any fancy stats say. Wouldn't be surprised to see Jones get a game in on Thursday.
Also this, Gus starting to get exposed. It's all good as we have plenty of time to find pieces to help. He got turned around doing a 360 in his own corner by someone lol. Was ugly.

The guy has lead the team in scoring in each of his first 4 years here and he will very likely do it again this year. I call that consistent. People seem to just forget this fact. He's an important player and the teams most dynamic offense producer, sometimes that comes with risks. I think for most of his time with this team he has been really good. He had a bad playoff round last year just like everybody else not named Fox or Kreider. I expect much better in the playoffs this year. I'm also not buying the "we haven't really played anybody yet" bull. Every game in the NHL is tough especially when 7 of 9 have been on the road.
Last year his EFFORT was very inconsistent . When he's willing to play north south back check forecheck a little .....he's incredible ........when he starts playing east west floating it seems to rub off on the entire team. I love how he's playing now and I hope he keeps it up. Last year some games he gave away the puck in a single game more than he has year to date so far.

Gus has a "bad" game, he's beginning to get exposed.

Lindgren has a horrendous road trip, crickets.

If one of them needs a seat based off of what we've seen lately, its 55.

The last thing you want to do is bench 55. lol

Gus-Schneider was our best pair, you say. Then you say Gus had a bad game -- I don't know what the quotes you put around bad mean. Which means Schneider must've really had a great game, which he didn't. Remember the blue line pinch fiasco that led to a goal?

don't make me use the Spiderman meme on you.

I actually don't either but we exist in a realm where other players can't have a bad shift with out being labeled as being terrible or being exposed but others can suck for a stretch of games and be free of criticism.

The last thing I want to do is sound like puckluck, but we're 7-2, and that is without a decent homestand yet. Yes, there are underlying issues. I said post game that I have a house-of-cards gut feeling. Stick with it for the time being, however. It was also the final game of a long road trip. And Lavi is not going to make major changes like putting Jones in or moving Kakko out of the Zib line.

I didn't think Gus had a bad game.

I didn't think Schneider did either. A bad shift doesn't=bad game. It's not hard to differentiate the 2 but some can't do it. It wasn't a pinch fiasco, he whiffed on a puck. Now that SHOULDN'T have happened but that kind of shit just does sometimes, it's not nearly as egregious as covering air on a rush attempt like Lindgren did on the 1st goal, along with the bevy of other mistakes that he made last night and had been making on this entire road trip.

To be fair, you said Schneider was great in Edmonton, which I agree with. And, last night's comedy of errors was not on the D. The forwards were f***ing terrible with puck management after it looked good for the first 13 minutes of the game.

Haha this is obviously direct at me even though you didn't quote but I'm happy to reply.

I pointed out a specific example. Defensively he's not an absolute whiz. That's a pretty decent example of it, he almost fell over haha. It wasn't even that serious of a dangle, don't think it was Ehlers or Connor or anything but I could be wrong there. Also, in the last couple of games he has had a couple of questionable pinches and plays in the offensive zone.

He's certainly not some 2nd pair world beater, so I'm not sure what you're getting defensive about? He still has been good at the things he does well but he has flaws like most NHL players. Feels like he was probably playing above his level the first handful of games.

Lindgren I love like everyone else, but I agree his play can be inconsistent. Not sure I'm on him like you are right now, but he can be frustrating. I think I've started to lean closer to the camp of having Key-Fox Lindy-Trouba for the sake of that first pairing being together.

5 straight on the road, 6-1 overall. That’s the kind of thing that gives me a warm feeling running down my leg.

Seriously, you have to love the team defense. 18 goals against in 9 games with two stinkers thrown in. Much improved on face-offs, very good penalty killing and a power play that has returned to form.

I was one of the biggest skeptics here about Laviolette. He still looks like his underwear is a size too tight but you cannot argue with very good results. Now it’s time to send Carolina a message.
Lavi has won at every stop. He knows how to coach. Just a matter of if we have the right players.
