Until you realize Dubas is the GM and they have 23 million to spend this summer..
Not saying the Penguins shouldn’t try. My statement is more so to what Marner will ultimately choose.

If money is equal, find it very hard for Marner to want to be here in Pittsburgh for any considerable amount of time. Especially with so much uncertainty of what’s next.

There's teams that are currently in the playoffs and can afford Marner.

There's teams that aren't currently in the playoffs, but will be there soon, and can afford Marner.

Pittsburgh is neither of those.

Toronto, Columbus or Ottawa

all 3 have cap space to pull it off.

anahiem is too early in its developement stage.

Marner rumours have it, that he didn't waive to be traded to Carolina? don't know

Pittsburgh is full tanking for Mckenna.

So those 3 are my guess.

Ottawa does not have cap space. Absolutely Will not be them. I actually can see Columbus, that's a mistake i made not including them.

Re: Pittsburgh

Dubas will give him whatever he wants he is his biggest fan. Also 3 more years of Sid would be appealing for any player. Also need to appease Sid so he wants to stay. I believe this is Marners most likely destination.

They will suck so much more without him. Honestly good chance of missing the playoffs depending on who they replace him with.
They definitely won't. He is a luxury of lots of what they already have. They're going to add to what the team lacks with his money.

Ottawa has 17 million dollar of cap room excluding the additional 5.5 million that will be added soon.

So who plays Marner’s minutes? 100 points. Top line. Play driver. Top pk guy. Elite 200 ft game. Makes the guys he plays with better.

ive watched the same song and dance for almost 10 years. If they lost marner they could replace 60-ish of those points in the reg season and they would still have Matthews-Nylander-JT-Knies + FA replacement.

Marner's game has been a negative out there for TO in the Boston, Montreal and Florida series. His contract he does not live up to and he is taking up a massive portion of the salary with the strong chance that he wants 13-14 AAV. I think him on the PP is trash as well. He holds the puck more than anyone out there and is a 0% shooting threat so it makes our PP very preditable for passing lanes to be covered.

If they lost Marner and were to sign a Bennett or Ehlers, you're likely saving 5-6 million and getting back a great top 6 option.

In a perfect world I would have traded mm years ago but now they will just have to cut bait

Let mm walk
trade rielly
resign tavares hopefuly in the 6-7 AAV neigborhood
sign bennett and tbh id take a flyer on marchand too but that's prob asking for too much
use some of the extra cap space to sign a player or 2 for depth

a top 9 of Matthews-Nylander-Knies-Tavares-Domi-one of (Bennett/Marchard/Ehlers)-Laughton + couple depth moves is still very good. Teams have gone much deeper with less up front.

Most of us Leafs fans don't care about winning a division. I would rather be a WC with less pressure and the chance of getting aligned in the Metro bracket. Losing mm is not going to take this team from top 3-4 in the league to out of the top 16 in the season.

Again, the people who watch the actual games, year in and year out are not fooled by his 90 points in a season. he gets paid to produce at that level and he has a top 5 goal scorer of all time and a fantastic young PF in Knies. the man SHOULD BE putting up 90 points. WE ARE NOT FOOLED watching mm struggle in the playoffs. Fans on hf or facebook saying we're crazy for booting him out are the ones that don't get it. If you watch a Leafs playoff series you will see mm constantly get out manned and make ridiculous skill plays that lead to more turnovers than scoring chances. The only way him staying would make sense would be if he took an extremely friendly contract and we know that isn't happening.

Lets see what mm does when he doesn't have Knies-Matthews attached to him. I think he signs in Chicago so he can play with Bedard, personally.

I think there’s a chance given that Marner seems to get along with Sid. But I’m not sure if Dubas being there is a bonus or negative in this situation. I don’t think KD enjoyed dealing with Marners agent last time.

I am a sens fan I am well aware of their cap situation. they have 17 million to sign 7/8 players. They absolutely do not have the room.

Dubas is Marners biggest fan. He loves small players. I dont see how that's not a fit. This isnt an RFA deal where there is negotiating. This will be a bidding war we already know Dubas will pay Marner more than he is worth. He is likely going to do it again.

  1. Florida (e.g., Florida Panthers or Tampa Bay Lightning):
  • With no state income tax, players keep more of their earnings. Factoring in federal taxes and other deductions, a player might take home roughly $2.4 million from their $4 million salary.
  1. Ontario (e.g., Toronto Maple Leafs or Ottawa Senators):
  • In Canada, both federal and provincial taxes are applied. In Ontario, players face some of the highest tax rates in the league. After taxes, the same $4 million contract could leave a player with around $2.0 million in take-home pay—a significant reduction compared to Florida.
  1. California (e.g., Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks or Anaheim Ducks):
  • California imposes the highest state income tax rate in the U.S., at 13.3% for high earners. Combined with federal taxes, this means a player’s take-home pay on a $4 million contract could drop to approximately $1.9 million — the lowest among these three examples.

True. Researched it a bit more, but its not much different than Toronto. Obviously if he goes to FL< TX, TN, WA, or NV thats a huge advantage and they can pay $500k-2M under market.

There's a lot more endorsement opportunities in Toronto FWIW. He won't have the same ones available to him in almost every other market.

There are other teams that will be able to pay Marner what he wants and some with a better outlook than the Penguins.

Marner also gets to decide on where he plays. The only way he signs with Pittsburgh is if he wants to be here.

Not sure if I want Ottawa to get Marner, but all they need to do is trade Batherson and they can make it work.

No it wouldnt it would mean Giroux is gone too and they have a guy at league minimum replacing him. Also Batherson at 5 million vs Marner at 13 is an easy decision.

Marner is absolutely not a fit in Ottawa at his salary. Or the type of identity Staios is building for this team.

Maybe Anaheim. Lots of young guys there. Marner could sign there. Nylander and Matthews will request a trade there eventually.

Yeah I don't see a fit personally, but if they really want him they can make it happen. You're right it would have to mean they probably lose Giroux too (although maybe you could go to Giroux and say "we're going to get Marner, we have to make this move. You can be a part of this still but we can only give you league min").
