You can't be crucified by the media for being a ghost in the playoffs if you never make them. Maybe he just wants a no pressure gig, with a baby soft media that isn't gonna kill him. Plus he gets to play with his buddy, Sid.

Or he could just go to a no pressure gig in Carolina/Columbus/Utah/SJS/Anaheim and still have a chance of making the playoffs and competing in the next five years lol.

True

  1. Florida (e.g., Florida Panthers or Tampa Bay Lightning):
  • With no state income tax, players keep more of their earnings. Factoring in federal taxes and other deductions, a player might take home roughly $2.4 million from their $4 million salary.
  1. Ontario (e.g., Toronto Maple Leafs or Ottawa Senators):
  • In Canada, both federal and provincial taxes are applied. In Ontario, players face some of the highest tax rates in the league. After taxes, the same $4 million contract could leave a player with around $2.0 million in take-home pay—a significant reduction compared to Florida.
  1. California (e.g., Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks or Anaheim Ducks):
  • California imposes the highest state income tax rate in the U.S., at 13.3% for high earners. Combined with federal taxes, this means a player’s take-home pay on a $4 million contract could drop to approximately $1.9 million — the lowest among these three examples.

True. Researched it a bit more, but its not much different than Toronto. Obviously if he goes to FL< TX, TN, WA, or NV thats a huge advantage and they can pay $500k-2M under market.

Earning US dollars in Canadian markets, means paying Canadian prices, so with the exchange he gains almost 30%

From my educated guess, I think it's either Utah or Anaheim as they're 2 teams physically in the opposite side of toronto that would be looking for a big splash in the offseason.

What I hope: 2-3 years in Pittsburgh with the idol of his teenage years: Sidney Crosby.

What might be more realistic: a team in the west far away from Toronto. So maybe Kings or Anaheim, or even San Jose. West is also a realistic option if you consider the fact that he just had a child and they probably will want to maximise well being for their family. What's a better place than a sunny state. Who'd willingly move to Buffalo or Chicago if they have chance to spend their prime under the California sun? lol

Marner is signing July 1 for 15x7. Not too sure where but there will be a lot of clubs bidding.

Mikko got $12, but yes I agree with you. Classic does he want to win or get paid the most? Buffalo will give him $14-15 to go there im sure.
Miko got 12x8. Marner will get seven years. Do the AAV will be more.

It was a great concept until you realize Canadian prices adjust up because of the lower buying power of their dollar.

For example, gas at $1.22/liter in Toronto converts to about $4.58/gallon. That's $3.28 in the US.

$2.82 in Buffalo.

No shot he’s going to one of these teams that are still a ways away from contending. Chicago, Pittsburgh, and San Jose are out, though I could maybe understand the sharks. Anaheim is a maybe, but I still don’t see it. Utah, Vegas, or Carolina would be my guess, but I think OPs analysis here is wrong. All 32 teams are going to be motivated to try and bring a player like Marner into the fold and will investigate the feasibility of it.

Chicago is my guess, they need to start adding bigger pieces and have the space.
I dunno, I dont see how he fits at all. Bedard is basically the same player but has a better shot. Undersized not overly fast offensive RW. I think Carolina, Anaheim, Pittsburgh and Utah are the leaders. But who knows.

What analysis did I give exactly?... Id love to hear your breakdown. These are teams with cap space to do it. Do you disagree with the math or just staying on brand with a terrible take?

Unless he re-signs in Toronto, which I think is still a possibility, he might be given the red carpet treatment by San Jose and his very close friend, Marleau. They were very close in Toronto, and the Sharks have a decent future already in place with the kids, so adding Mitch would do wonders for them.
For those who are saying he wont sign with a team like that I think its a terrible take. If he is signing for 7 years he will want to be on a competitive team for most of it. Celebrini is a puck hound the perfect fit for Marner as we know he doesnt have that role on his line. And they have tons of young players and assets they will be competitive for his entire tenure. Plus he gets to be in California a long way away from the madness that is the GTA.

Hypothetically true but IMO Marner & fam don’t strike me as the “under market” type. More likely that he’s gonna have the same contract ask as anywhere else and just get to keep more of it.

They aren’t living paycheck to pay check.
They invest all the money.

Paying 30% less for gas/hydro and groceries doesn’t do anything for the millions they pay extra in taxes.
