Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

The Oilers look like a soft perimeter team right now and that doesn't work in the playoffs

Agree. But you don't change that overnight. That's a top down change that starts during the regular season. Gotta have the sandpaper in the lineup.

You have a roster that seems overly dependent on McDavid and Drai.

The other players expect them to save the day instead of doing it themselves.

BLOW IT UP. That team as is will always be great in the regular season then bounced in the 1st round.

Zero grit. Zero sandpaper. Watch and wait for McJesus to save the day.

That won't work...ever.

The oilers are so used to having two players drag their asses all over the rink every single game that those guys get the big blame when they get shut down or meet a hot goalie.

The series is far from over but other than McDavid, Drai and this year Pullijarvi their forwards are all stink bad, as in I'd rate them as bad as any team in the league.

Because it’s playoffs and they don’t get to just beat up on the weak North division.

Hmm, wait a minute...

This is bullcrap!!!

This was going to be the year were we would finally get an epic 2nd round matchup between McDavid and Matthews for hockey supremicy!

Now we're going to get Scheifele vs Drouin?! Nobody wants that shit... :(

Relax, Jets-Leafs will be more exciting than Oilers-Leafs anyways

Couldn’t give a shit about McDavid or Matthews. I want to see the best two teams go at it.

It's pretty pathetic. It's the same Jets he tore apart in the regular season. Not exactly defensive stalwarts like the Knights, the Avs, or the Islanders. And allegedly "the best offensive player since Lemieux" (or even Jagr, or even Crosby) is a total no-show. People who love to slam on the offensive gods of the past: if McDavid cannot penetrate today's Jets, how would he fare in the DPE with the clutching and grabbing, and Hasek / Roy / Belfour / Brodeur at the end of the tunnel?

To those who say that "hockey is a team sport," it did not prevent true superstars from delivering in playoffs. Prime Fedorov, prime Forsberg, prime Jagr, and post-prime Gretzky, despite their teams losing, still put up the points. Nobody accused them of disappearing.

McDavid better figure out a way to at least show up on the scoresheet quick. Otherwise all talk of "Big 5" will have to wait for another decade.

Playoff hockey- where skill goes to die and talentless grit and sandpaper thrive.

What's the point of having a generational talent anyway?

This is why the NHL is what it is- it cares more about talentless grit/sandpaper guys and people wonder why ratings suck.

MCDAVID IS AMAZING! Nope here's the NHL doing NHL things and we get stuck with team grit vs team sandpaper

My issue with this is just how small a sample size it is.

If McDavid raised his shot on the pp another couple inches nobody would be saying this right now.

Corsby makes players around him better, play better
McDavid makes better plays around players.

Big difference.

The thing is, McDavid, because he is so skilled, fast, best in the world and all,
is his downfall,.. he trusts too much in his speed and skill, abilities to score goals and points.

He has no, almost no ability to slow the game down, to play smart hockey,
his hockey sense does not match to his skill and speed, it still doesn't, never has.

To a novice ice hockey follower, his speed often gives the wrong look of his game,
like he would have a high hockey sense, but actually, his hockey sense is his biggest weakness.

Well, at least, these are the fact today, maybe,.. later in his hockey career he matures,
learns new traits, abilities to his game, then he can win, lead his team to the cup, time will tell.

Empty nets aside the Oilers' top line is still outscoring the Jets' so far this series--Puljujarvi with one goal. Depth has been the difference, because the Oilers have none. But we knew this already.

Depth wins Stanley cups, over and over and over again.

Take it a step further...not just depth but gritty guys that are willing to forecheck and win the puck battles along the boards. Deliver big hits and play solid structured defense. Also, need secondary scoring.

The bolts had crazy depth but it was all finesse type players until we shifted to a heavier game.

I will always say we learned how to play playoff hockey against the caps 3 years ago and Cbus gave us that chip on our shoulder. We made a committment to fundamentally change our style of hockey. Heavy and grind it out playoff hockey. Fast is great during the regular season. Come playoff time...teams are neutralizing your speed.

Seems like McDavid is doomed in Edmonton.

Mcdavid plays 25 minutes. Does nothing.
How do you blame other players when you play half the game.

Malkin plays 12 minutes gets two points.

Points per minute malkin has been one of the best ever year.

Can you win a Cup with an all-heavy team of slow players?

I'm a bolts fan...we were the high flying finesse team during teh regular season and that doesn't work in the playoffs. Two differewnt seasons.

Good luck getting them to change. Maybe they will when they see McDavid dying on the vine in Edmonton.
