Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

McDavid has definitely been checked really well by the Jets, even though I feel like he’s holding back his drive a bit. One major problem is that on a few golden passes the receiver of the pass had rocks for hands.

Helly has also been phenomenal.

Marino got to a SB and 2 AFC CG's

If McDavid gets to a Cup Final and 2 semifinals, that would be progress

Good point. How about Warren Moon? He played for both Edmonton and the Oilers, and he was far more successful against Canadian teams than American ones. It’s perfect!

He really hasn't.

I could've shut out the Oilers tonight.

My issue with this is just how small a sample size it is.

If McDavid raised his shot on the pp another couple inches nobody would be saying this right now.
The playoffs are always a small sample size... that's all you get. In international competitions you may only get one game to prove yourself before you're out. "If he raised his shot"? That's fresh. If Lidstrom raised his shot a couple of inches in Game 7 of 2009, Crosby would carry the "choker" label for another decade.

This in no way invalidates what I wrote.

Don't feel like looking up those results because frankly it doesn't matter. Crosby had 31 playoff points that year so I think he did a nice job of helping the team win a Cup. Crosby was hurt in that last game. Pens have had more success than any team since Crosby has been in the league. Most playoff wins, most times making the playoffs, 4 Cup Finals, and 3 Cups. Crosby also leads the league in playoff points of any active player. I think he has done an okay job.

You can try and make some lame argument all you want. Sitting home again I see with no playoffs to watch. All you have left is to talk about the days when you lost to the Pens in 2009 but Zetts did good. Have at it.

At least it would have drama and a storyline

MTL/WPG- how do you manufacture drama out of THAT?

EDM/MTL or TOR/WPG is a different thing.

But if you have no McDavid, no Matthews, basically it's gonna be 7 games of goalie goalie goalie

Sounds like the NBA is perfect for you. Fixed story lines and pampered stars.

You need high end talent and depth to win games. Edmonton has high end talent and no depth, Winnipeg has no high end talent but tons of depth. Shut down that high end talent and the depth is going to win you the games.

Exactly. Which is why I think the entire idea of being a playoff choker is generally inaccurate, especially with how much hockey is based on chance/puck luck.

Corsby makes players around him better, play better
McDavid makes better plays around players.

Big difference.

The thing is, McDavid, because he is so skilled, fast, best in the world and all,
is his downfall,.. he trusts too much in his speed and skill, abilities to score goals and points.

He has no, almost no ability to slow the game down, to play smart hockey,
his hockey sense does not match to his skill and speed, it still doesn't, never has.

To a novice ice hockey follower, his speed often gives the wrong look of his game,
like he would have a high hockey sense, but actually, his hockey sense is his biggest weakness.

Well, at least, these are the fact today, maybe,.. later in his hockey career he matures,
learns new traits, abilities to his game, then he can win, lead his team to the cup, time will tell.

Lol

Very true statement. Especially with him being knocked out of the third. Having said that, the dude just finds ways to win. Coincidence? Can’t be at this point.

That Detroit team was the best, and still is the best, team Crosby has ever gone up against.

If the 2011 Bruins game 7 vs MTL/TB goes differently, Luongo would probably have a Cup and his legacy would be very different

If the NBA has pampered stars, the NHL has unprotected stars
The NHL does have unprotected stars and that's a good thing. The day the NHL drops the parity and caters to a select few is the day the NHL is no better than WWE

But at the same time, you still need A guy amidst the depth.

The Islanders have Barzal. The Wild have Kaprizov. The Panthers have Barkov.

Just a quick reminder. They’re not playing the late 90’s-early 2000’s Devils. WPG has by far the worse defensive core in the playoffs. Just a pathetic showing all-round.
Nothing but parrots saying the same thing about Winnipeg. Never gonna give them credit for shutting down the most productive duo in the league huh. GTFO here with your “original” analysis.

Ehlers, Scheifele, Conner..... Draisaitl, Nugent-Hopkins, Yamamoto
