Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

Playoff hockey- where skill goes to die and talentless grit and sandpaper thrive.

What's the point of having a generational talent anyway?

This is why the NHL is what it is- it cares more about talentless grit/sandpaper guys and people wonder why ratings suck.

MCDAVID IS AMAZING! Nope here's the NHL doing NHL things and we get stuck with team grit vs team sandpaper
Perhaps your boy McDavid should stop killing the NHL and put up some points then

The playoffs are always a small sample size... that's all you get. In international competitions you may only get one game to prove yourself before you're out. "If he raised his shot"? That's fresh. If Lidstrom raised his shot a couple of inches in Game 7 of 2009, Crosby would carry the "choker" label for another decade.

That is a big if and that could be said for several plays. Kind of ridiculous to point out because you can make that for almost any Cup winner. Even if it did go in we still could of won that game so your point is meaningless. 4 Cup Finals and 3 Cups plus one of the best playoff point producers of all time and somehow he was a shot away from being a playoff chocker. Pretty ridiculous statement.

Exactly. Which is why I think the entire idea of being a playoff choker is generally inaccurate, especially with how much hockey is based on chance/puck luck.
It's only a small sample size if you continually fail to find success

I was merely making a point that it can be said about any crucial moment in playoffs.

If the only thing we change in this alternative history scenario, then Crosby doesn't win his first Cup till 2016. He would live with the "choker" label until then.

You need high end talent and depth to win games. Edmonton has high end talent and no depth, Winnipeg has no high end talent but tons of depth. Shut down that high end talent and the depth is going to win you the games.

They don’t have a Top 10 player but Scheifele, Dubois, Wheeler, Connor, Ehlers is an embarrassment of riches up front

Don't feel like looking up those results because frankly it doesn't matter. Crosby had 31 playoff points that year so I think he did a nice job of helping the team win a Cup. Crosby was hurt in that last game. Pens have had more success than any team since Crosby has been in the league. Most playoff wins, most times making the playoffs, 4 Cup Finals, and 3 Cups. Crosby also leads the league in playoff points of any active player. I think he has done an okay job.

You can try and make some lame argument all you want. Sitting home again I see with no playoffs to watch. All you have left is to talk about the days when you lost to the Pens in 2009 but Zetts did good. Have at it.
You have completely missed the point. Good night.

Chokers do not put up well over a point per game in the playoffs though. So far McDavid has sort of earned his choker label much like Thornton, but I do not expect that to continue. It's only a matter of time before he explodes offensively.

Ovechkin was a PPG in playoffs. He was universally labeled a "choker" until 2018.

As for McD: we will see. This does not look good for him so far.

And then Zetterberg happened.

Actually went back to see what happened when we first played you in 2008 to see if Zetterberg really "happened" to Crosby. I then saw in those last 4 games Crosby had 2 goals and 6 points so try again. As a 20 year old Crosby had 27 playoff points and lead his team in points all the way to the Finals in only his 3rd season in the league. Taking a veteran Wings team to 6 games and producing well certainly was not a chocker. Like I said he got hurt toward the end of the next year and didn't even play the last two periods of game 7. But to say he got Zetterberged in 2008 is a false narrative.

Also it is pointless because I think Crosby has proven himself as a playoff performer both with individual accomplishments and production and team success. Not many can match what he has done.

What am I missing here? Mcdavid has 18 points in 19 playoff games.

Drai certainly had a heater in 2017, but it was also taking advantage of the 2ndary matchup while McDavid was being groped by Kesler all night.

End of the day, the Oilers are too easy to play against. Your entire game plan, especially if we load up our top line, is to put 100% of your energy in shutting McDavid down. You don't have to care at all what 3 of our other lines do. You can shut them down with some AHlers if you want to. No team that hopes to contend makes it that easy for their opposition.

Whoever was labelling him as a choker was a moron. Hockey is the biggest team sport there is. Lemieux didn't make the playoffs his first 4 seasons in a 21 team league. Gretzky never won a Cup after leaving Edmonton and Edmonton won one just two years after he left. If your level of play in the playoffs does not drop in comparison to your regular season performances then it's ridiculous for someone to consider them a choker.
