Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

Yes, exactly.

So who are the Oilers supposed to get in return if they trade McDavid? A better player than him? They won’t find that anywhere.

Trade Drai, not McDavid. You would get a kings ransom for Leon right now and use that cap space to fill some holes in the roster and give it some depth.

The problem is the Oilers rely on them too much. And, spent most of their money on them. We'll soon come to an era where the best NHL team doesn't go all in and splits the money evenly and fairly.

Then it'll birth a player taking more money to play in the KHL.

But I give McDavid one more year before he wants out. Sometimes I question it because he bought a big house in Edmonton.

McDavid is not a natural leader and doesn’t elevate those around him. This has been proven repeatedly at the OHL and NHL levels. He is just a guy who is born with freakish speed/skill. He lacks the intangibles that make guys like Crosby winners at every level they’ve played.

I've watched every playoff game McDavid has played in the last 3 years. 4 two seasons ago, 4 last year (playin game vs playoffs is same thing IMO) and now 3 games thus far.

My reaction is to those 11 games. Not 2 games of no points, 11 games of subpar playoff performance.

I said it after game 1 and I'm still on pace. This is going to be the 3rd sweep in the post season in 3 seasons for the oilers

Errr - it sounds like you haven't watched squat lol.

2 years ago Oilers werent even in playoffs.
Last year they did lose - but 3-1, not a sweep

This was a strange post

Crosby was never elite defensively.

His defense from the first half of his career is overblown. People act like he came into the NHL and looked like Bergeron. It took him years to fine tune his defensive game. Today we see the end results, a very good two way center.

Crosby over the last 6-7 years has shown he is a solid two way center, especially in the playoffs, and has shown a level of commitment to defense we have never seen from McDavid. McDavid will probably never be Crosby defensively.

I'd say it's what Kucherov has done after his 129 points season. Yeah, he doesn't score as much as McDavid anymore, but he already has one cup, and can probably win a few more.

Except these playoffs with 9 points in 4 games. That's as many as McDavid had last year in the preliminary round against Chicago.

That’s already a more reasonable proposal. You can make the argument that they’d benefit in having less high end talent but more depth, and possibly a better defense.

I think they need to strengthen the blue line as a top priority. A team with players as good as them but otherwise very defensive minded would be difficult to play against.

Well yeah to a certain extent, but even looking at Crosby's goals against numbers from these past two seasons they are hardly better than McDavid.

He has been a very good defensive player in the playoffs since he was 20.

Wasn't that because of their center depth?

Imo the Oilers are similarly set up as the Pens in 08, with worst goaltending:

Crosby -> McD
Malkin -> Drai
J. Staal -> RNH
Gonchar -> Barrie
Letang -> Nurse
Hossa -> difference?

Even J.Staal had 28 pts, and he was the 7th scorer on the team. On the Oilers this year, the 7th scorer has 21 points.
all of those players are significantly better then the oiler one with the exception of mcd/drai. pens also had bill guerin and sykora and a bunch of other role players who score ~30 points. you have to be insane to think the oilers roster is close to the 2009 penguins.

McDavid wanting out wouldn't make sense.

If they lose - a lot of it is on him so far this round.

That mcDavid Drai presser was a work of art. Master painters couldn't capture the pure sense of dread in their facial expressions.

A screencap of Leon's face should be hanging in the Louvre tomorrow. Magnifique!

3rd pairing Letang was significantly better than 1D Nurse?

11 of Gonchar's 14 points came on the PP. He was a non factor at ES

Depth matters. We have the depth of a child’s pool. We’re wasting about 20 million on passengers who’s greatest impact is on our stick tape supply.

Neal, Nuge, Smith, Koskinen, Kharia, Kassian, Ennius, Turris, the least goes on

Yeah, but I mean the regular season's scoring, not playoffs.

True, but if you're scoring those points in the playoffs then it doesn't really matter how good you are in the regular season. The Oilers losing can't be pinned on McDavid but other than 1 preliminary round his individual playoff performance has been a disappointment so far.
