When does the Yzerplan start getting criticized?

Traded Veleno for Mrazek & Smith.

If Yzerman wants Detroit to fight for a wildcard spot Mrazek is the opposite of what you want in net next year.

I dunno, he’s been on an absolutely brutal Chicago team in recent years.

Seems like a small risk, hoping that he might still have a good run left in him. It’s not like superstar goalies grow on trees, the ones that are available are usually not better than a Mrazek.

He traded a 4th liner for a historically decent goalie. Probably not what they needed for this playoff push, but it could be a lot worse. Seems to be like Yzerman wanted to do more but wasn't willing to give up the assets to do so

The team and the roster have seemingly spun their wheels (pun intended) for a bit now.

Have you already criticized it?

Or is making the playoffs next season critical?

Or does Yzerman have a longer leash due to his reputation?
Lightning and Panthers have put all their chips in. In 2-3 years they’ll be out of contention and I think that’s what Yzerman is aiming for at this point. Tampa more than Florida.

Yeah, it deserves every bit of criticism now. Not even going to attempt to defend his last 12 months.

doing nothing last deadline and missing out by one point on the post season

Getting garbage players in the off season and addressing zero needs

Trading Walman and paying a 2nd to do so just to watch him be traded for a 1st half a season later

Being on point out of the postseason at deadline day and not only doing nothing, but somehow making us worse for next season at the same time.

A truly catastrophic 12 months for him

You guys just don't understand the subtle intricacies of the tapestry being woven here. This is about the long game. Yzerplans within Yzerplans within Yzerplans.

What you think is a bizarre move with no reason, or an outright waste of assets, is just simply beyond your comprehension - or possibly even an act of misdirection - who knows.

We already have Lyon on the team. At the very least you can throw him a bone at $2M for one year.

With our defense and Mrazek known to give up at least one bad goal damn near every game this won't go good. Any time I see him play I assume he will give up 3 goals and it's been that way for awhile.

When you take an absolutely horrible team and you want to turn it into a serious Stanley Cup contender, it typically takes longer than 4 years. I mean even if you draft a great D man, Centre, and Goalie, they are barely ready to contribute in 4 years. There are some quick turnarounds, but most fall short. In my opinion, to be a real cup contender you need two really good Centers, a number one and two D man and a good supporting cast. Not to mention a good starting goalie. That takes a lot of high draft picks plus a lot of luck to accumulate, and more than 4 years to marinate. So long as Yzerman is accumulating blue chip prospects at a solid rate and is leveraging his cap space for more assets, you shouldn’t be calling for his head because that’s the kind of progress you should be seeing.
Best and most logical post on this thread.
Close it down.
