Speculation: When Does Bruno Get The Boot?

When does Trotz pull the plug on Brunette?

Agreed - my response was full of "Willy" tropes as a sarcastic barb. He is knowledgeable about every sport except the one on which he is paid to comment.
Sorry I missed that. I think I'm so angry at this time right now that sarcasm is going over my head, which is very rare. And your last comment is spot on. Can't we just replace him already? I'll do it and not say anything and that would be better.

I don't think Willy and Mace are really all that terrible compared to the norm. PBP guys do tend to be repetitive and barrage the listener. Overall, I don't think Mace's color is exceptionally strong and the intermission discussions aren't as detailed as other teams broadcasts. I discount Willy confusing hockey and basketball as part of his "witty" shtick more than anything.

I really find the announcers that spend the game talking about where they went to dinner, their dog, the time he lost their bags in Boston in 1985, etc. and completely ignoring the actual hockey to be miserable to listen to. I guess it's nice they are enjoying themselves, but if I wanted a sports bar atmosphere, with lots of discussion on the hot wings, I'd go to a sports bar.

I like the intermission shows that actually break down plays, run through the numbers, etc. If they have a good analytics person, who can explain things, you can learn a lot and learn what to watch for. The TNT broadcast is total garbage; grown men sitting around giggling at one another.

PS: I get that "unabashed homerism" when we can see the product sucks the bulls off a brass monkey can get on your last nerve. I just turn it off. 🤷‍♂️

I don't watch intermissions, I don't really care for what they may or may not have to say.

Go back and listen to Emerick, Thorne and Forslund, especially Emerick. His use of adjectives to describe the action was impeccable and never repeated. Each year or half a year, Willy gets hung up on a word and uses entirely too much. Power is the word this year so far. I don't even remember what it was last year but if you played a drinking game, you'd be sloshed by the end of the game, probably dead as he uses these words too much.

The other night when ROR scored on the PP, he called it a one timer when it was a redirect/tip. I was like, you have no clue what a one timer is?

We had Gus Nystrom playing for us earlier this year and Nick Blankenship. He'll call a player on the broadcast by the wrong name because it was off by a number but it's like, this guys a right-handed forward and you called him Lauzon. I get it, every PBP guy will make mistakes but come on, it's not a foul, this isn't basketball, it's a penalty. He tries to inject other sports terms into hockey and he sounds like an idiot when doing so.

The one good thing, he got better when Grimson was let go and Mason took his spot. Grimson was terrible.

I agree with you on the esoteric stuff that can be discussed and he does a good job of not doing that.

Nobody is Emrick and I listen to Forslund on the regular. Forslund has a bevy of vocabulary to lean into, but if you listen long enough you will hear the same catch phrases repeated. I totally agree though that he's great and fun to listen to. Lots of energy, positive disposition, non-stop motor. :) (I don't like when they have Edzo on with him though as Edzo is a clown.)

PS: I'm with you on skipping intermissions. There are a few teams that do a fantastic job though they are rare.

Seattle has a great intermission team.

I’ve been listening to other broadcast teams a lot this year because I’ve been forced to watch teams I typically don’t just to see some good hockey. I haven’t listened to a single play by play guy that is as bad at it as Daunic.

Mace doesn’t bother me as much. At least he brings good insight into some of the goalie play.

I actually like Hal Gill a would prefer to have him do color with a good play by play guy like Aaron Simms.

Don’t even get me started on Rowley……

I got spoiled listening to Bob Miller for 30 years. Compared to that they're all kind of blah (shoutout to Nick Nickson, who's economy Bob and finally got a chance for the TV gig after all the years on the radio). Too bad Jim Fox is a Muppet and of the Willy /Mace bootlicking variety.

I loved listening to Emrick but he certainly had his -isms too. I don't think I ever heard a game of his without "waffleboarded", "ricocheted", "filtered on along", multiple times. Not to compare Daunic to him. Emrick was great

Can someone ask this tool why he didn't get that quote ten games ago? Or even now? I know the answer is "they have real hockey media" in Montreal but damn man, did he ever think of asking the players why they suck?
He doesn't do well with questioning about his coverage.

The 40 goal scorers brought in have both made less than glowing comments about the coaching. Nobody is put in a situation to succeed 5on5. Common denominator is

Well friends and neighbors, I’m doing something today I dont know if I have ever purposely done before. I have made other plans (going to see the movie Wicked) during the time the Preds are scheduled to play. Trotz/Burnette have made me so indifferent, I dont even care if I miss a win, because I have no reason to think it will be the start of anything meaningful for this group of bench f***ers.

Yeah I think I'm going to pass on tonight too. Other more enjoyable sports to watch anyway if that's what I feel like doing

The team is at the point where it needs a seven game win streak to reach .500 hockey. Bruno's on ice decisions and Trotz's roster choices have this season all but out of reach (a huge run is in the realm of possible although extremely unlikely).
