I think we may have too many contracts we cant trade to actually burn it down. We arent playing good hockey anyways so we can move what contracts we can and honestly itd be hard to play worse then we are now. We can only fall back 1 more spot in the standings and we are already last in goals/game. Only thing that can really get worse is if we start giving up 4-5 goals a game.
They are easier to move than most people think. A couple may take retention but just about all of them could be moved. Now you may not be great as far as return but you can get rid of them.

You can cut too deep though and get stuck in the sewer. I definitely think we need to move some of these contracts though even if it is large contract for large contract. Changing the lockerroom and makeup of this team needs to be done

The franchises elusive white whale that will drive us all mad. The 1C.
Honest question: is ryjo's 64 points the single season record for points for a Nashville player actually playing in the center position?

Trading for a truly dominant 1C is pipedream fan talk. Trading for a guy who has talent, flaws, and who you hope might put it together to become a top 30 center nets you a Johanson, Turris, or Duchene. And Trotz himself dumped 2 of those guys. So that 1C trade talk is contrary to facts.

From what he said early on, I believe Trotz truly felt he was leveraging his cap space to nab Stamkos, Marchessault, and Skjei from teams with less cap space. The reality though is none of those guys is ever going to be an elite 1C. Our playmakers just don't exist and/or are too easily stymied in this system making this spending spree and composition of a roster non-competitive.

Although this may be the most bizarre case of a team tanking I can recall in sports, we're on track now to get an excellent chance to draft a kid that could become that white whale. Blind squirrel finding a nut approach, but maybe it will pan out that way.

Yes, by 1 point. Legwand had 63 in '06-'07 season.

Listening to Willie on the radio he is basically where most of this board was two years ago, don't burn it down, let's try and play good hockey while we build. This team is too far gone to save at this point.
Agreed and listening to anything he says about hockey is a joke. Dude literally has a limited adjective vocabulary to describe the action. This year his favorite term is power. He's powering to the net. He's powering out of the zone. He doesn't understand how to use adjectives in relation to what's happening on the ice.

There should be a drinking game or an over/under on how many times he'll use the word power. It's AAF.

And two of those guys were top 5 picks so we have had top 5 talent on our roster, it never amounted to what we hoped.

Just wanted to point out that all 3 of them were top 5 picks. (3, 3, and 4).

Just proves that tanking for a top 5 pick guarantees nothing other than a top 5 pick is selected. What happens next is anyone's guess.

Good catch. Forgot that Turris was also a top 5 pick.

And to your point.

If you look up “don’t bite the hand that feeds you”, you’ll find a picture of Willy Daunic. That dude isn’t going to say ANYTHING close to something that would get him fired because he knows this is the last play by play job he’ll ever have. The longer he can keep his lips pressed to the organization’s ass, the safer his job is.

True enough, although trading for former top 5 picks increases the chances you get a disappointing one since those types that fully pan out generally aren't getting traded. (Debatable exactly how "disappointing" Duchene is for his draft position but you get the idea)

In any case, not sure what else to hope for this year because the playoff hopes are cooked.

Probably the worst TV play by play guy I’ve ever heard and with the product on the ice it makes it that much more intolerable to watch and listen to.

I'm often shocked at the quality of broadcast teams around the league when I watch other games. I think the Preds team is bad but not offensively so which puts them above a number of others. Most of the people I know that watch a lot of games seem to agree. It's maybe more noticeable here when we used to have such a likeable crew though

When our team is playing well, I have no problem with Willy and Mace. But I agree with Glenn, they refuse to be remotely critical of the hometown team, no matter what, so in a stretch like this they come off as clowns.

In a "normal" game in a "normal" year, I think they're perfectly fine

I at best enjoy or at worst dont get actively annoyed with the broadcast teams of literally almost any other team we play against. I think I’ve listened to one game with Willy and Mason this year

In Willy's defense, it's the bottom of the ninth and he's put on a full court press to get down to the one-yard line on the details. He's going down the middle of the fairway with most of his commentary so as to not draw a flag. He might need a pit stop every now and again, but he'll go 10 rounds against the other hockey play-by-play guys.

Sorry, there is no defense for him. I admit he got thrown into it but he's also had time to work on it and grow his play calling, which he has failed to do. He'd be better on radio. I don't need every single action told to me as I'm watching it. Don't say, so and so is breaking out with a pass to so and so then so and so is powering to the net. Give me the basics, the Preds breaking out of the zone quickly. Josi with the stretch pass to a streaking Forsberg. Shot on net, just wide. Basic stuff. And stop using the word power.

Agreed - my response was full of "Willy" tropes as a sarcastic barb. He is knowledgeable about every sport except the one on which he is paid to comment.
