What's up with Cole Caufield?

People don’t bag on Caulfield cause he has or hasn’t met draft expectations. They bag on him to piss off the Habs fans who call him the second coming of Ovechkin every time his stick hits rubber.
I feel like people don’t only want us to suffer, but they also wants us to suffer and not show any enthusiasm for the precious little things that goes our way.

Awesome! Wreck your draft.

The only team even close to us is Arizona, and finishing last only guarantees you the 3rd pick (now that there are only 2 lottery winners). I would rather finish the year with our young players developing well and have the 4th pick instead of finishing terribly and getting the 3rd pick.

Lol right? No, tell all your budding prospects to intentionally perform badly to get potentially better draft pick, which could all be undone by the lottery regardless. I'm sure that won't develop any bad habits, a toxic locker room, or loser mentality.

confidence is back in the kid. you could tell he was way too nervous to fill into this god tier player right away. now he's easing up.

100%, you have to think MSL is a big part of it. Should be easy to relate to the kid being smaller and having his struggles early on as well.

I mean, I think most people saw the potential, but when the majority of Habs fans are saying he’s a better prospect than Seider and Zegras, the bashing shouldn’t come as a surprise.
some habs fans desperately overrated their players. Caufield is a very good talent, but he definitely needs more refinement. I'll give this kid time still, because I believe a majority of the USNDPT core that was drafted in 2019 will be amazing.

that and probably being near his idol. that helps.

As I said earlier in this thread, you could have written about many habs players having really bad years. When that happens to a collective unit, I look to the coaching.

Now you have a new coach, who just happens to be Caufield's idle, and it's as if he became the same promising player he was last year in a blink of an eye.

The habs will continue to lose games because its a bad roster, and depleted at that, but some guys are starting to wake up after the coaching change, at least.

Don't mind me, I'm just about to eat my popcorn reading the start of this thread again.

People want to see him fail because he's a Montreal prospect, with the size of all the Canadian fanbases on this site it's true with most of those other fanbases as well, because the bigger they are the more obnoxious ones there are.

As far as the player, my guess is he read his own news clippings before the season and got a big head and didn't work hard enough, that coupled with some pretty insanely bad puck luck and the Habs disaster season meant he did get off a horrible first 25-30 games.

Someone who shoots the puck like he does was always going to eventually recover. But there are areas he is going to have to work hard at getting better at.

Cole Caufield and Marty St.Louis going out for drinks:
755

1 goal 2 assists with 1 period to go.

5 goals 3 assists in 6 games since MSL came in.

Started the first 2 games at around 13 TOI and has been playing 18+ since then (might not be the case today as they are rolling the lines more since they are destroying the Leafs).

As a Leafs fan I can fully empathize with how you guys are feeling. The Habs have one of the largest fanbases in the NHL. People from other teams (especially those that your team supports financially through revenue sharing) will shit all over everything your team does. Good or bad. You're not allowed to have nice things without someone telling you it's not as good as you think it is.

Just ignore it. Caufield is 21, playing on a terrible team. How good is he expected to be given the situation?
this dude gets it. classy

This guy is a mess! Hahahahha! Let’s all dunk on this guy!! High five!!!

(Just kidding. It’s nice to see a talented guy make it happen).

Who knew that playing letting a young skilled player play a top line role without the fear of a mistake stapling him to the bench would be good for development? Galch and KK say hello.

Obviously it's not a sustainable pace, but he's back to the player he was last year. He's found his swagger.

More like he simply has a little lucky run for a week or two, around once every year or so.
