As bad as he was, I don't think you can solely lay the blame on Ducharme's shoulders for Caufield poor start.
Yes, his usage wasn't optimal but he still started the season on a line with Toffoli and Suzuki but couldn't produce anything.
Also, it's not like MSL gave his rookie winger 20 minutes of ice time right off the gate. For his first 2 games as head coach, St-Louis used Caufield with Armia and Poehling where he averaged 13:20 of ice time. Interestingly, that line was actually assembled by Ducharme on his last game before getting fired.
Caufield scored in both those games and now looks a completely transformed player. I guess confidence goes a long way, especially for a goalscorer.
