I think ball is in his court. If he wants to re-sign, it should be team friendly. If he wants to maximize, he will go elsewhere. I think he wants to stay here, and I hope he doesn’t push for too much. I understand that ppl can make more money elsewhere. If he wants more money, he should go elsewhere.

This thread demonstrates what is wrong with the NHL. How can Canadian teams compete when our economy is more socialist that the United Statians?

I’ll defer to management on this one, they’ve shown a that they won’t get caught up in nostalgia or emotions, if they decide to sign him I’ll believe it’s because he fits in the plans, if they don’t that’s ok too.

I'd go 5 years, but yeah, he's not a $4m player.

$3.5m sounds right for him.

He's an extremely useful asset and that term and cap both seem fair, but how can we answer without knowing what kind of return we can get for him through a trade? He keeps this up, he's going to be quite coveted come TDL. Having Beck and Kapanen in the wings also helps.

If the trade is a good one, I say take it, as much as I appreciate Jake.

People seem to assume his Agent won't have any input he definitely will.
The agent works for the player not the other way around. If a player wants only wants a few teams because of personal/family reasons then those are the teams the agent will actually work on getting deals with. The agent isn't going to constantly presenting offers from teams the player doesn't want to go to just because it's more money.

Dvorak was a result of a GM in panic mode who lost danault for nothing.
He lost Danault and Kotkaniemi by being a jerk. True. But after Suzuki, we once again will only have one center come July, with a big question mark on Dach.

Dvorak was a panic move for sure and that's my point. Not to panic sign Evans to a contract higher than what he deserves.

Not sure if Dvorak was a "panic" move. They might have picked up Dvorak because they thought he'd be a genuinely great player.

I think 3.5 AAV is probably the max I'm comfortable with.

I could see him getting 4M, but anything over that is way too much.

An agent has a vested interest and he will always advise the player to go to market ALWAYS and if he doesn't you need a new Agent.
When Hughes talked about being impressed with Bergeron he wasn't following his Agent's advise.
Obviously if Jake wants to stay put he's putting the cards in Kent Hughes' hands.

No it was a panic move. Armstrong said they had Dvorak available for a 1st round pick and no one was biting.

He cited it takes circumstances for things to fall onto place sometime. So not only did the Coyotes get a 1st no one was offering, Bergevin panicked and gave up a 2nd as well.

max 4 years and max 4 million.

ideally $3.5 for 3 years but like others have said, it's his payday and he's earned the right to get as much as possible.

his shooting percentage is unsustainable and i don't think he's more than a 35 point player, but in an inflated role on a rebuilding team maybe he can put up a couple of 40+ point seasons until hopefully 2 of Dach, Hage, Beck or Kapanen push Evans back down the lineup in 2-4 years.

Lol, if the agent his putting his own financial interest ahead of his clients wishes then they are a terrible player agent. And I believe to be properly accredited you have a fiduciary responsibility meaning if they do as you say then they can and will get sued by the players they represent.

You are basing your argument on the premise that Evans absolutely wants to stay.
I'm basing mine on the reality that this is Jake Evans Career contract and his Agent is going to point that out to him you know like ADVISE him.
If Blake Coleman got 4.9 m for 6 years and guess what Jake Evans is in that same echelon and most people don't want him at 4M.

No one is saying his agent would refuse to honor his wishes that's an argument you decided to inject into what we were discussing.

Don’t know it’s been said on here yet, but I’m 99.9% sure they’re gonna call up Beck this season to see what they have in him before they can negotiate in earnest with Evans.

If Dach can find his way back and Beck looks like he can hang then that will have a big impact on their decision.

I don’t know our cap situation in great detail but I’d guess they don’t want to pay over 3 mill a year cap hit wise. We have a lot of guys we want to keep long term who are gonna chew quite a bit of cap that are ahead of him. We got Hage and Kapanen too.

This one’s a tough call. You’d probably get a king’s ransom for him at the deadline. I like him but it is a contract year. I think if Dach can get it together by the deadline and Beck’s tryout goes well then he’s most likely goners. Still good to have a bit of older vets though but he’d have to come cheap

2m per year is the max I’d give him. I like the guy, but overpaying for bottom 6 players is what Bergevin would do. And with Beck/Kapanen, his replacements are waiting in the wings. It would be silly to pay him for multiple years. I’d rather get a high pick and use it for an actual upgrade in the summer.

How many 3C make 2M a year with a cap that's going up? That's insulting to Evans. You're also viewing it as Evans is either a finished product or this year is mirage. What kind of upgrade do you think is available? A guy like Ryan McLeod was traded for Savoie.

Yeah and how is Buffalo doing after adding the great McLeod? That’s right, players like this don’t move the needle. Evans is having his first really good season in a contract year. What a surprise. If you want to be fooled by this, not my problem. Beck will be better than him Day 1. Kapanen likely too.

If the Habs had no other options, then maybe. But they are there waiting to make league minimum. Evans is going to get $4m a year. He’s not a 3C. He never was, but he’ll get paid like it. Let some other team make that mistake.

My point is if a guy like McLeod who some would have argued last summer was an upgrade on Evans required such a price, what do you honestly expect to pay for a real upgrade on the current form of Evans?
