This lineup makes the Leafs bigger and a lot more aggressive up front, which was one of the things lacking from last years team. Blackwood bouncing off the opposition was not very effective on the forecheck and didn't scare anyone, hopefully Jarnkrok, NAK and Engvall can remedy that this year.
Just a dream but that 2 line would be scary.
There's a bit of a wild card here as well in that Knies may sign an ELC as his camp so far has been very strong and he seems very comfortable and is at times dominating in scrimmage type drinks. Haley Wickenheiser was glowing in her presser when talk about Knies came up, and stated something to the effect that he can make his own decisions about moving forward. It was kind of cryptic but sure sounded like the door is wide open and that both sides are confident in a positive outcome either way, whether he stays or goes.

I would have traded nylander to Ottawa for that debrincat package. Then used the 2nd to beat yzerman to the punch and trade for husso’s rights and sign him. I would have signed comri, I would have offered kadri 6.9x6 (Willy money). Play kadri 2nd C with taveras on the wing as he ages.

I'm not faulting him on his goalie choices as he could've done a lot worse but I would've liked to see him check on the price to acquire a guy like Helle, the Jets seem like they're about to rebuild. Sure the price would be higher than what Murray cost but it would've most likely put an end to the goalie issue once and for all.
I'd talk to the Flames right now and offer Willy and Kerfoot for Tkachuk. He seems like the perfect player for this team. I love Willy, don't really care for Kerfoot. Cmon Kyle, get back in my good graces.

Matthews and Marner's NMC starts next season (Marner has 2 years of NMC).
Nylander's modified NTC starts next season too.
Nylander will be easily worth 9AAV+ (increment of 2M+). Matthews is probably going to get anywhere between 4 to 5M+ more. With JT and Marner already on the squad and other increments not sure how that will work out where Leafs get to keep Matthews, Nylander, Marner and JT while still icing competitive roster.

What I would have done can be quoted, so no use reinventing those statements to fit the 20/20 I'm experiencing in hindsight:
Protecting McCann over Holl comes to mind.
Extending Jack around Mrazek's numbers was another strong thought. And I actually did it ($2.75M for three years) in a money league in which I own Campbell.
Never would have paid that Foligno price.
Never would have signed Mrazek. Never would have traded for Murray under the specifics we did.
In full disclosure at one point I floated trading Marner for Timo Meier, Jacob Middleton and other add ons.
Recall mentioning I would have traded for Carson Soucey, kick tires on Michael McLeod.
Sign one of Lindgren or Lankinen. Sign Samsonov.
Beyond that I can't recall much of what I posted here before events took place.
With our 25th overall, I probably would have reached for Artem Duda. And I would have traded up to nab Buchelnikov. Also did that in my money league with the first pick I was able to get into the draft with. Granted mine was a much later pick, so when Yzerman grabbed Buch about 65 picks ahead of mine...I felt affirmed, lol.
Fun exercise.

I would have made a big push to get Muzzin/Kerfoot off the books + add Chychrun.
Controversial as well, but I think I would have given Campbell that Edmonton deal too - it probably hurts in the long run, but that's someone else's problem: I'm in win-now mode, and want the goalie that I think is going to be better than Murray & Samsonov over the next 2 years, which is realistically the only 2 year guaranteed window this team has.
Beyond that, I do exactly what they are doing now - sit back, put your feet up, let the big dominos left in Free Agency fall (Kadri, Klingberg, etc), and then bargain bin shop for depth talent that is still out there.

honestly i wanted samsonov for the past few years ever since vanacek took the starting job for the cap, would have prefered trying to get quick then murray but both are gambles at this point

- Seriously negotiated with Campbell to re-sign him but also state that we don't believe he is a 50 game a year starter. Be willing to pay $4M+ aav. Maybe he still would've walked, maybe this is what happened.
- Acquire another NHL capable goalie, Samsonov for example, maybe Murray with 50% detained, maybe Talbot
- Moved Engvall if some team was interested, otherwise not qualified him
- Moved Kerfoot if I could find a team to take him
- Then I'd use this money to shop for forwards
The above all presumes that I believe "we can and we will". I don't. No way this team would still have 3 $11M players once a beneficial way to move one of these players was encountered. That is a continuing hindrance to making this roster work as a championship caliber team.
