Not really. I think Mcdavid would jump at the chance to play in TO

no one jumps at the chance to play in toronto lol

they only come here if they can extract a much money as possible, or if they're one year away from retirement and want one last payday

those two options aside, they wouldn't touch this franchise with a ten foot pole.. although Tavares might have something different to say but besides him, yeah it's about right

All that's left to bury Leafs fans is Mcdavid coming and showing he's a regular-season hero too.

Maybe we'll get to experience this in 2026-27 as well.

He extended 8 because his GM isn't enough of an idiot to let him make 13 mil a year while also not buying term with it
He actually was offered 13 and took less with same term. He wanted the team to have flexibility to sign other players.

Matthews makes a million less and isn't as good as mcdavid. On top of that he's signed for 3 years less.

yes, let's further skew the cap and get even more one-dimensional. great player, too pricey at this point.

Why would they ever move McDavid? Doesn't make any sense.

There is a picture of a shocked 18 year old from 6 years ago. Please disregard the fact mcdavid said he can't wait to get out of Toronto and signed an 8 year extension.

just imagine all the young kids in the GTA who are growing up with this loser hockey team... so many of these kids are becoming fans of other teams as a result. They want to cheer for winning teams. The Leafs have lost generations of potential fans as a result of these last 20 years or so.

These bullsh-t playoff collapses are costing the team in the long run, and it'll become evident soon enough when fans have disappeared slowly but surely

I know fans are mad but this time it seems a heck of lot worse.. or is it just me?

With him in an Oilers uniform and nobody outside of Canadian media gives a damn about the Oilers.

Imagine what happens to that wheelbarrow franchise when McDavid is not there.

they fall off the map completely.

remember the 80s?

best chance is to wait for free agency. edmonton doesn't even respond unless matthews is on the table and it would take an overpayment.

screw it, i'll bite - I would only trade for McDavid if it meant Matthews stayed with the team...otherwise, what's the point? Seeing as how McDavid is locked in for 6 years, I'd center it around Marner. I think Matthews can live with losing his bff if it meant getting McDavid. This is basically to double down and go for it all in the next 4-5 years and hope that cheap vets like Spezza, Bogosian keep signing here (I think they will with a McDavid-Matthews tandem). Edmonton gets to rebuild with a boatload of assets and still has a strong, young trio of Marner/Draisaitl/Nurse.

Team defence still needs work, but you'd probably re-sign Rielly and hope that Campbell is a 1A starter on an AAV of 4-5 mil after next season, and you get a nice 1B/top tier backup in his mid-30s for about $2 mil AAV. Leafs are banking on Tavares remaining productive throughout the remainder of his contract when eventually converted to a winger. Leafs would then hope some guys like Niemela, Hirvonen, Abramov, etc. make it to the NHL as cheap regulars.

The Leafs put all their chips on the table with the deal below, but they kind of already did that when they signed Tavares. Might as well go for broke and reset in 5 seasons if it goes tits up

To TOR:
- McDavid

To EDM:
- Marner
- Amirov
- Sandin
- Robertson
- 3 1st round picks
- 2 3rd round picks

Wow talk about emptying the cupboards. Rather go Eichel for Marner even if we have to add a bit.

I'd definitely go for Eichel as well, but his serious injury issue concerns me. I'd also just go for broke with McDavid unless I can get Eichel for significantly cheaper, which is possible given the track record of Sabres management

Could you imagine trading away the best player in the world twice as an organization in 40 years? No way it happens.

Only chance is if Matthews dips to Arizona and two years later during free agency McDavid chooses to play at home ala Tavares.

Funny thing is oilers won a cup without gretzky and went to game 7 of the finals without as well.

Also widely speculated that Matthews is going to Vegas not Arizona. Best of both worlds a better organization and still would be out of the fishbowl in Toronto.

I don't care about Toronto/Edmonton whatever. Why would a team trade the best player in the league for a 'shake up.' It doesn't make sense. Unless McDavid is refusing to play for Edmonton, or is so unhappy that it is toxic (no evidence of this), there is no way he is traded.

If the Leafs make the call, they better be ready to include Mathews. marner and Travares in the deal, if not then don't bother calling cause Mac is in a much higher level then Mathews, Marner and Tarvares. Neither of these three can dominate a game like Mac can. But it would hurt the leafs more to giv these up so Mac stays with the oilers.
Sorry kid, going have to stay firm here. How about if I add a 2nd, alright deal. Thank you for your business bud.

Not if he wants to win, which is why he'd be leaving Edmonton in the 1st place. Its not looking as attractive here right now, Marner Matthews and Nylander arent 21 anymore and our 11 million dollar star centre just sustained a potential career altering injury.
