Hook line and sinker! Love threads like these. They drive Oilers fans (already very sensitive and insecure) up a wall or near a bridge.

God no, that’s a huge overpayment

Of course it is man. They're not trading the best player of his generation, as he enters is friggen prime. People have to be reasonable. If you're even thinking them moving McDavid, it starts with an enormous overpayment, or they hang up the phone laughing at you.

If it was this off-season where he wanted a trade?

Matthews+88+Liljegren I guess would be hard for other teams to beat.

Why would the leafs want McDavid when he’s a choker in the playoffs?

cmon fans consistency!

Yea, I know it would be Matthews + or ++ but not quite THAT high.

Lol, it's not Matthews+, because even if that + is Marner, that's 22.6 million they have to take on, so they'd lose space for other roster pieces as well.

They're not trading McDavid, but if they did, it would like cost both Auston + Mitch, + 1-2 high valued assets that cost nothing, to replace the depth they'd have to clear out from their roster for cap purposes.

He's not worth Matthews + Marner, that is bananas.

Why would the leafs wanna take on another high end forward who can’t make it out of the first round? Don’t your guys eyes work? Cmon man

He's probably not, but I would hang up the phone if the starting offer was any less.

What value for them is there in taking a greatly inferior player (Matthews) and a couple underwhelming futures, for the best player in the world? That's franchise suicide. They get worse in every deal that you could offer them that doesn't start with Auston + Mitch or Auston + Willy.

Matthews
Reilly / Sandin
1st round pick

Something like that doesn't make them better at all. They lose the best player in the deal. You're not getting the best player in the world in a hockey trade. It's enormous overpay, or they hang up laughing at you.

I'd take 88 over either of Rielly/Sandin + 1st

Matthews+88+Liljegren is actually the more valuable package.

Holloway-Matthews-88
Yamamoto-Leon-Pulju

Solid start for a top 6.

The whole premise is unrealistic. They would have no urge to move him and no one would pay what you’re proposing.

Only one thing -- Connor McDavid demanding a trade from the Edmonton Oilers. Nothing more, nothing less. If McDavid demanded a trade, all teams would be able to bid for his services and the Leafs would have plenty of chips to dangle. Without McDavid demanding a trade, there is no possible way to acquire him -- the average team cannot offer enough, and the Oilers cannot afford to trade him for reasons on, and off, the ice.

But for arguments sake, lets say he forces a trade and the Leafs are bidding against 31 other teams -- here's the type of hypothetical offer it would take to get the Oilers to consider...

TO TORONTO:
- McDavid

TO EDMONTON:
- Matthews
- Nylander
- Sandin

Jettison the cap! A big ticket would have to go to Edmonton. It's not realistic for a plethora of reasons.

I think McDavid should ask to be traded to Columbus. He might be able to convince other players to sign in Cbus in FA. Certainly as likely a scenario as Edmonton dealing him in my opinion.
