I have been saying since the summer, if the Rangers do not trade or extend Lundqvist he will be in division next season, but not playing his home games in Manhattan.

I completely agree. I think he's done calling MSG home and is looking elsewhere. Not too many options out there in goal and with the way the Ducks are playing, Hiller will re-sign. Ryan Miller? No thanks.

My personal opinion is that 90% (to pull a number out of my rear) of Lundqvist's struggles are related to a defensive unit that has looked completely uncomfortable, indecisive, and incapable of providing adequate support consistently.

Which to me, while it helps to understand his struggles - it also underscores how much the simplicity (and familiarity) of last year's system may have helped the entire defensive group, himself included.

He is fighting it and looks uncomfortable which I fully expect to improve. I do wonder, how will he look over a full season in this new system? On talent alone I believe he will be a top 5-7 netminder at year's end. Will that be worth $8M+? Like I'm not saying he is even "mostly at fault"...and I expect him and the D to get better...but when you look at the numbers and how much support thus far "appears necessary" can you really justify that price tag?

And this REALLY is not me trying to bash him, say he's overrated, or anything like that. I KNOW that if you stick whoever else in net the last few years they don't win as many games, and this year it would be 9-2 every single night. I am just saying dollar for dollar, if the team is not going to be playing a simple, defense first system that elevate his numbers to consistently HOF status - can you justify the cost? If I were GM it would keep me up at night.

According to a lot of posters on here, we had a **** defense that struggled, was "uncomfortable, indecisive, and incapable of providing adequate support consistently" last year. Yet Lunqvist played well.

I have a hard time placing "90% . . . of Lundqvist's struggles" on the defense.

Perhaps you can blame the new system. And I can see that. But he's simply not stopping stuff he has stopped in the past. As I've said a million times, now, the blame has to be on him and everyone else equally. The defense is letting up chances, but he's not stopping those chances when he should be.

As of right now, though, I'd place 50% of the blame on him and 50% on the players around him. I think that it's pretty much perfectly split, too.

Why is it that just because lundqvist isn't playing good people jump to the conclussion that he wants to get the hell out of here?

Does he hate the state of NY? If not then there is no reason to jump to insane conclussions.

He's recently married and had a kid, for all any of us know it's more personal burdens than anything. Look at the mess richards was when he broke up with whats her face (olivia munn?) Or maybe he's simply just sucking and adjusting to the system in the process. No one really knows 100%

Since when are slap shots from the dot an easy save?

Revisionist history?

Here's the replay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSGntagUXfo

You can pause between 4 and 6 seconds and watch Girardi do nothing. Staal tries to help but it's not even close.

You can call it a slow shot all your want, Henrique is skating full speed a picks a corner with a slap shot.

Teams try really hard to set up shots from that close on a power play. It's not like it's a bad place to shoot from.

I can't tell if this is Micheletti or not. That's an easy save for Lundqvist. He should've had Ryder's shot too and the rebound to Zubrus was weak.

It's absolutely comical how many arm chair HF goaltenders here seem to think that's an 'easy save'

An absolute BLAST from the face off dot. Absolutely zero time to react. The only hope you have is that the puck hits you. The puck found a hole. Hockey players score goals. Henrik is not a cyborg.

It's really time to end the discussion over this specific goal.

I guess Lundqvist is blameless. I'm glad our goalie has enough sense to take responsibility.

He is never blameless, but he is not anywhere close to being the reason why this team is struggling so bad.

The team in front of him S U C K S.

This is what Henrik wanted. A more wide open system preaching offense. So, save me the excuses. It's up to him to perform even if they give up more chances.

You work for the guy he does no wrong in your eyes, it is not a impossible shot to stop if your not on your ass and have wrong angle

We've scored a total of ELEVEN goals so far this season.

On the flip side of things, San Jose has already scored thirty-nine.

We don't have an offense.

I gave up on him. He thinks the goalie is blameless. Goalie was the one area that wasn't supposed to be a concern. Neither was defense. Great hiring.

He's a human being, he isn't perfect. However, you should stick to giving wrestling promotion advice, not goaltending :)

A. Other than Washington, there are no contenders with the room to give THE KING top dollar. Not without re-vamping the team. Is Washington a contender? They sure could be with some tweaks but was Henke really that much better than Hotlby at 1.6 mill. Hard to say since the anemic Rangers were Holtbys challenge.

Everyone points to Pittsburgh because of their talent a playoff goalie woes. Both Sid and Geno are signed to HUGE contracts. Henke would have to take a paycut to tandem with MAF. I just dont see it happening

B. GM's will be somewhat wary of the Rangers coaching change and woeful injuries but also , perhaps, mindful of the goalies equipment change to adhere to the new rules.

C. Parallel teams with the juice to grab the King

Toronto - a boatload of contracts expire this summer. They could easily offer Henke a FAT contract...but no more closer to the cup than NYR

I predict he stays put.... no idea why the deal is not done though.

The system was changed but kept same personnel that had trouble scoring under Torts.

I don't know why people thought simply changing the system would mean more goals. Now the defense is worse and quite frankly so is the offense. However to me worst of all the team has no identity.

This was touched on in an earlier thread but maybe Minnesota would be a destination for Lundqvist. Most similar to Anaheim but without a John Gibson in the pipeline. Get a first, one of their three goalies and maybe like Zucker and call it a day. Not a bad return for rental Lundqvist. That team wants to be cup contenders and getting Parise and Suter was a start but they need an upgrade in goal to compete with the big boys out west.

Well, the team will learn the system and Hank will start playing well. We'll make the playoffs and everyone will forget about this stuff.

That would be nice. I think they are at least a month away from being full strength and the only think keeping them in it (that felt so wrong to type) is how bad everyone else is in the division. That being said I'm not a big fan of treading water to be mediocre. And I think Nash is in big trouble with his concussion.
