Henrique was moving at top speed. Not only did he shoot that puck hard, he shot it accurately.

Stamkos and other big power play scorers live from that spot. The only difference, they don't get a running head start.

The fact that Henrique's goal has become a reason to rip on Hank just goes to show you how irrational the fans have become.

I wonder what these boards would look like if he let up a goal like the one Quick gave up against the Rangers.

Good to see a rational, intelligent posting for once! :handclap:

I can't even begin to understand how wrong that statement is. A weak slapshot? Henrique absolutely BLASTED that shot.

Could Hank have stopped it? Yes. But, that was by no means a soft goal. Sometimes you need to give credit to the other team/player for making a good play.

If that's a weak shot, where are all these players shooting the puck 250 mph?

When was the last time you saw a goal scored the way Henrique's was?

You see that goal a handful of times in a season, these days.

It was soft.

I remember Boogaard scoring on one, though.

That play developed due to a complete defensive breakdown that allowed him to come in with speed and blast away.

It was not a 'soft' goal. Until you've been a goalie in that situation and had someone absolutely fire a laser slap shot at you, only then would you realize that sometimes you just get BEAT.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, you have to give credit to the other team/player for a good hockey play. He BLASTED that shot. Goalies will be beat on that shot many times. You have zero time to react to it, its a matter of hoping the shot hits you and you make the save. No human on this planet has the ability to react to a puck that is shot that fast.

This isn't even the issue, the play should have never developed and he should have never had that much time and space. On top of all that, even if that is the only goal they score, we still lose the game 1-0 because we can't score!

6. I asked a few people who've seen New York Rangers netminder Henrik Lundqvist: "What do you see there? What's wrong?" There are two things mentioned. First, the team defence is not good, which can make any goalie look bad. The second is that he looks smaller. In September, Lundqvist said he felt faster in the new equipment. But a couple of guys pointed out that playing as deep as he does, there are more shooting holes than ever. When you've got time, you can find them.

I'm late to this thread, how many people have tried to use the "you've never played the game argument?" or the "as someone who's played the game knows..."

He's off to a rough start for sure. I think the Hank from previous years wouldn't have had problems with that Henrique slapper, he does seem to be fighting it a little bit. Then again he looked impressive against LA and WSH.

It's pretty simple. And I don't understand why people don't get this. He is having a BAD year. THATS IT.

Because of his consistency throughout his career, and he has arguably been the most consistent elite performer in the NHL throughout his career, people expect Lundqvist to be infallible.

He's not. He's a human being. He's provided 8 consecutive years of elite play to the organization. This one isn't one. That's all there is to it.

Malkin / Ovechkin have had off seasons as forwards. Giroux is terrible this season. Doesn't mean Giroux is bad, or he's "done" which some people seem to imply about Lundqvist on here, it implies that Giroux is having a bad season.

Quick / Price have both had bad years. In fact, two out of Quick's five seasons have been below average statistically. Two out of Price's six season's have been below average statistically. Last year, Luongo was below average.

Great players have off seasons. It just so happens Lundqvist is having an off season when the Rangers are terrible both offensively and defensively. And it further compounds the problems of the teams success. In the past, his out of this world performances have kept the team afloat in their darkest times. Without Lundqvist providing an average season, you're seeing how bad the team can be without him as the back bone. The injuries don't help either.

Yes, lets judge his entire season so far EIGHT games into an EIGHTY TWO game season. #onlyonhf

You're missing my point. My point is, he's allowed to have an off season, if this so happens to be one.

And you know what, maybe it will be just that, an off year? And you know what, I wouldn't get on top of him like these fans have after 8 games.

Right now, it just looks like he's off. That's all there is to it. I think people are looking way too into it. "It's his pads." "It's the defensive structure" "It's his looming contract negotiations." It can be all of that, but it might just be he is off this year, in general. It happens to all athletes. Lundqvist isn't immune to it. And after 8 years of elite play, where he has carried the team on his back, it's hard for me to get mad at a player who has had a bad October.

I was just reading that contract talks between Hank and the Rangers are headed in a positive direction but that the Rangers have made numerous offers and the Lundqvist camp didn't agree on them. At this point who knows if he even wants to resign.

He's looking for a long contract, big money, and a chance to win a cup. Let him try and find that on the open market.

You do realize he will find all of that on the open market? He'd likely take a discount to play for a true cup contender. I can picture him signing to a cap friendly $6 million / 7 year deal to a Stanley Cup Contender.

If Lundqvist rebounds, and Fleury implodes in the playoffs as he usually does, there is no doubt in my mind he'd have serious discussions with the Penguins. And there is no doubt in my mind he'd sign at a lower price to win it all at one point in his career. That is a huge hypothetical of course.

In New York, all he will find is big money. Winning a Stanley Cup here? Now that's laughable.

Name one true cup contender that needs him and is willing to give him that type of contract. Not happening.

I did in my previous post.

If you don't think Pittsburgh wants to be done with Fleury, regardless of a hot start, you're kidding yourself. And I genuinely do think if Lundqvist hits the open market, Pittsburgh won't hesitate to move Fleury for a bag of pucks or buy him out to acquire Lundqvist.

Hell, the Islanders are more of a Cup Contender than us with Tavares as a sure fire star in the league and other developing young talent.
