Habs fans are very split on the Dubois situation. There's no consensus. Some want to wait for UFA, while others want to get him onboard sooner.

Personally I'd be willing to offer some real futures for him this summer (thinking FLA 1st and prospect).

I don't think the Jets will get fleeced if a move to MTL happens, but I don't think they'll get a truly maximized return either.
Habs management probably don't really care about PLD and have zero reason to trade for him. Especially as they are rebuilding and are not in a position to give up significant assets and then have to sign him to 9+ million. The only way PLD plays for the Habs is if HE decides to wait a season and offers a discuount on his salary.

Habs are better off seeing what Dach becomes after this breakout season.

Habs make solid offer but not full blown retail. Knowing they can get him a year later for nil. Jets probably take next year from him and let Dubois walk.
Put it on paper...shows us the offer! No use saying that and having nothing to compare the miller offer to.

Show me what your offer is........

Habs offer PLD a contract in a year's time at a discounted cap hit.

That's the offer!

You might be right............but Dubois has a certain skill set that is hard to find............I doubt very much Mtl does not have interest...........admittedly, maybe not that much.......but to say they don't have interest.....I really question

Yes, and like the other poster said......Tampa offers him full pop, and tax free! and lots of sun! and only a 3 hour flight to Quebec

It also does not explain why Winnipeg does this...................

Put something on paper..............how much you going to pay him........lol

Ok, here is the Question.

What team will trade with Winnipeg for Dubois after he turns down their multi-year offer, this summer, know fully well that he will sign in Montreal the following year?

Personally, I am reminded of the Kesler trade to Anaheim, where he only wanted to go there. It handcuffed us, and the return was dismal.

Thoughts?
Think we have to look at his situation with some hesitation regarding this whole Montreal thing. We hear it 1000 times. Player A wants to play in a certain city, wants to go home, etc. We also hear it a lot more from the Montreal media and fans. Whether it is true or not, it doesn’t play out that way 90% of the time.

I mean, why trade for PLD after Dach has shown such promise and progression in his game? Habs made a draft-day splash to get Dach and its paying off. Plus, they signed Dach at a sweetheart of a deal to boot.

There is no reason to trade for PLD when there is potential to sign him as a UFA, if he is even a need by then. Habs have to do the right thing and see what they have in Dach. If Dach stops progressing next season, then you look at PLD.

I'm not saying it's a slam dunk because it's not, but it's not accurate to say this is the result of Montreal fans and media.

His agent started this whole thing and Friedman confirming it kicked it off again recently.

And if that happens great. What does that have to do with Montreal? Montreal has not shown any interest to PLD. Its the other way around. Why does Montreal have to accommodate a trade for a player that made it public that he wants to play for Montreal? lol

If Marc-Edoard Vlasic made it public that he wants to play for Montreal, does that mean Montreal is obligated to trade for him?

Have to give up so much, then pay Dubois 8million a year. It's huge. We can wait a year get him for nil. Be silly of us to make you an offer that blow your sicks off.

no, no we don't...
What do you want for him?

Dubois want to play in Montreal because he's from Quebec. And the fans will pressure the team into trying to get him for the same reason.

Fans have no say in it.

PLD wanting to play for Montreal doesn't mean Montreal is obligated to trade for him. That much is obvious. Habs fans are also excited with the progress of Dach.

Dach is progressing nicely and the Habs are not in compete mode. Dach could very well become the Hab #1C in a year or 2.

And if the Habs still have a need, PLD may be available after next season. Good change that happens given PLD's desire to be a Hab.

Either way, makes no sense for the Habs to trade for PLD. Another team should trade for him as a rental.

There are a lot of good / great players. Rebuilding teams don't give up significant assets to trade for them when they are rebuilding.

Adding dubois and a mid 1st from last year, isn't rebuilding? Come on man, your grasping!

Nice Shrek reference. Love that movie. One of my goals is to watch it in every room in the house. Just trying to figure out how to make watching it in the bathroom on an iPad more comfortable.

That isn't rebuilding. You build from the draft and with young players who develop over time. PLD is in his prime and will earn 9+million. There is zero reason for the Habs to trade for him. Especially when there is a good chance they can sign him as a UFA a year later.

On top of that, Dach has had a breakout season and is improving by leaps and bounds. He could very well become the Habs #1C in a year or 2.

So why in the world would they trade for PLD? LOL

You are dreaming if you think the Habs would trade Dach +1st for a player who publicly stated he wants to be a Hab and will likely just play out his contract.

Why would Winnipeg trade PLD when they are in compete mode this and next season? I think they just play out his contract and try to win a cup (unsucessfully of course).
