What should LA do at the deadline?

What's up with Debrusk? Signed an extension now wants out and is available? I'd take him over Garland for sure. straight up swap for Iafollo and a low pick? same type stats, and 3 years younger.

rumor is his qualifying offer was scaring teams away from dealing for him. now that he is re-signed that risk is not there.
I do not want him though.

I blame Canadiens fans for the Petry stuff. There's nothing that makes less sense.

Also hard no on Debrusk, this forum can't wait to run out 40-45 point players like Tanner Pearson, Jake Debrusk is just a different flavor of Pearson. Trading for him is stupid when we probably have several streaky, forum-angering wingers in our system who similarly will never take that extra step.

I wish LA had spent a 6th on Hagg instead of a 7th on Stetcher.

I can't see us in on Petry at all, even 50% retained. He has three more years after this one, to much term.

Any of the disappointing 1st round forwards other than Byfield, 1st round pick, one of the excess right shot defenders in the system. Any of those things could be involved in potential trades for Garlund.

And there has been objection to trading for him, no matter how bad they all look many still seem committed to forcing young players into the lineup over bringing in vets from other teams. The Kings are very likely to be in the playoffs despite getting nothing from any of our highly drafted forwards, at this point we are being overly optimistic if we think that changes between now and the start of the playoffs. This team could be a tough out if they get healthy on D and get a competent 3rd line.
Well the point of having a draft and minor league system is to develop your own players because other teams usually
don't give their good players away for nothing.

So yes, the youngsters have to be developed, the top guys for the farm getting a sniff here and there until they are ready.
If we look at the Red Wings at their peak in the early 2000's, it was a common thing that the rookies didn't come to the team before 24-25 of age.
This is exactly what i want for the Kings.
Move people up when they are ready to contribute, not earlier.
Kupari, Vilardi, Byfield, Turcotte and even Kaliev have not really contributed and should be moved back to the farm.
There they can build chemistry and work on their muscle build up.

Sort of glad it hasn't been a busy trade day. Don't think I could handle David Amber shilling whatever gambling/crypto word salad between trades he been spouting for 5 hours.

The best part of this trade deadline is watching Kevin Weekes making trade announcement videos from the most random places

Kurri, that strategy is not possible, players hit waivers at age 23. There is a reason that no teams employ that strategy and most high picks are in the NHL much sooner. Take the 2019 draft for example a draft where everyone is either 20 or 21. Of the 31 first round picks, 20 are in the NHL, many of them contributing significantly to their teams. 2018 which doesn't look like as deep a draft still has 19 of 31 in the NHL. Having high end skilled players contributing early on ELC's is a positive thing.

Plus, the Wings rarely used their AHL affiliate for their good players in the last 30 years

Yzerman - 0 AHL games
Lidstrom - 0 AHL games
Fedorov - 0 AHL games
Datsyuk - 0 AHL games
Zetterberg - 0 AHL games
Konstantinov - 0 AHL games
Primeau - 48 AHL games
Kozlov - 48 AHL games
Holmstrom - 3 AHL games
Franzen - 0 AHL games
Larkin - 6 AHL games
Raymond - 0 AHL games
Seider - 49 AHL games

Nothing traded today would have really made the Kings a contender or changed their playoff run much. Kahkonen would have been a nice addition if Quick didnt have another year on his contract and Sundqvist would have been nice if the Kings didnt have so many centers already.
But pretty glad Blake kept his assets for a bigger deal down the line instead of blowing some on middling players.

Apparently the answer to the question was almost nothing. I'd have still liked to have added something smaller, but bigger than a Troy Stetcher, but overall, no complaints. Now get healthy!

Dr. Doan diagnosed himself with a concussion.

Honestly, as much crap as myself and others gave Doan for his antics in 2012, I met him at a Chicago Steel game a couple of years ago when he was watching his son play and he couldn't have been nicer to me and my buddy.

Got to give the guy credit, he stuck with that franchise through a lot of crap.
