What should LA do at the deadline?

Well the point of having a draft and minor league system is to develop your own players because other teams usually
don't give their good players away for nothing.

So yes, the youngsters have to be developed, the top guys for the farm getting a sniff here and there until they are ready.
If we look at the Red Wings at their peak in the early 2000's, it was a common thing that the rookies didn't come to the team before 24-25 of age.
This is exactly what i want for the Kings.
Move people up when they are ready to contribute, not earlier.
Kupari, Vilardi, Byfield, Turcotte and even Kaliev have not really contributed and should be moved back to the farm.
There they can build chemistry and work on their muscle build up.

Vilardi and Anderson-Dolan require waivers next season. Both would be claimed. We’ve developed them as much as we can.

Durzi ELC expiring also.. I wonder what offers they will get. Maybe Vilardi and JAD each get a 1yr deal and Durzi gets 3 at something like 1.5M as I think he's proven to be able to handle the job at 3RD. Kempe got 3 years at 2M per as a reference

Man, feels like the Kings were in a good position to go for it.

Only so many more years for Kopitar. And if you don't believe in it right now, while in a playoff spot, then why did you bring in Danault and Edler?
Then why not sell?
Thats my thinking .. if you dont go for it, you have some assets you could sell e.g. AA might entice someone if you dont intend on resigning him.. Id ditch 19 too if I could.. and honestly not feeling so great about signing Kempe long term at 5.5 or more

go for what? This team doesn't even know if they are a playoff team yet. the off-season moves were to make the team better -- to compete for a playoff spot. You don't win a cup until you can turn that corner and stop ending your seasons in December. Good news is, they've accomplished that thus far.

In the off season I was firmly in the camp that thought Lizotte should be the spare forward or waived, certainly not blocking any of the prospects. However he has not only fully deserved his roster spot I'm delighted to see him get an extension. If anything he probably a little unlucky it wasn't three years. He certainly went into camp under pressure and taught everyone on the team what it means to fight for and without a doubt earn a spot on the roster.

I need some BBQ sauce to put on my crow....

loving the Nelson Nogier deal from Losepeg. Is the press conference tonight or tomorrow?
Or like the Gretzky pressers, one in Edmonton, (Losepeg) then fly on private jet to LA and a second presser there?

theres nothing to sell. (AA injured), (Brown/Quick retiring kings), Edler just returned form injury and the team is short on D as is.

Kurri, that strategy is not possible, players hit waivers at age 23. There is a reason that no teams employ that strategy and most high picks are in the NHL much sooner. Take the 2019 draft for example a draft where everyone is either 20 or 21. Of the 31 first round picks, 20 are in the NHL, many of them contributing significantly to their teams. 2018 which doesn't look like as deep a draft still has 19 of 31 in the NHL. Having high end skilled players contributing early on ELC's is a positive thing.

Plus, the Wings rarely used their AHL affiliate for their good players in the last 30 years

Yzerman - 0 AHL games
Lidstrom - 0 AHL games
Fedorov - 0 AHL games
Datsyuk - 0 AHL games
Zetterberg - 0 AHL games
Konstantinov - 0 AHL games
Primeau - 48 AHL games
Kozlov - 48 AHL games
Holmstrom - 3 AHL games
Franzen - 0 AHL games
Larkin - 6 AHL games
Raymond - 0 AHL games
Seider - 49 AHL games

I admit i didn't read the new CBA which indicates the 5 year or 160 games barrier.
For any reason i thought it was 6 years.

Can you please stop talking about so many more years for Kopitar?

He does not have anything left in him.

Father time worked on him really well.

I would love to trade him, but with his salary and diminished play I do not believe it is possible.
I bet you could. Eat $3M.
Two more years left.
Kopitar is still a pretty good player. Some team starving for C help would pay through the nose for Kopitar.

It's funny seeing so many "wow why didn't they go for it and why didn't they sell" comments at the deadline indicating no one knows what kind of team this is when...that's kind of been the 'complaint' the whole time.

But I applaud Blake for not paying stupid prices and as others have pointed out most of the actual UFA big fish are still available this offseason. Blake was smart to 1. not bid against himself (for Chychrun for example) and 2. not pay exorbitant prices for spare parts like Chiarot. Save that for a year when we're a lot more like Col/TBL et. al. what a nuclear arms race THAT has been, smart to not even pretend to be chasing that.

Dude was never gonna get traded before the deadline because teams weren't going to be goated to give up an arm and leg for him, yet most of the pundits claimed he was definitely being moved by the deadline.

I think we should give credit to John Hoven regarding his TDL predictions.

He was correct 100%.

Bernstein on another side was wrong as usual.
