What is wrong with Timo Meier?

I wasn’t as high on Meier than others felt. Not saying he sucked but he wasn’t ”it” and I thought what he’d ask for it would be too much by about $2M-$3M per and not that long of a contract.

I do think there is the adjustment piece going on here.

Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell ya, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing, because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing was frowned upon, ya know....because I've worked in a lot of offices and I tell you, people do that all the time.

I love you.

He isn’t gonna be putting up the numbers he did in the Sharks, but there is also basically no way he will be this bad for the rest of his contract.

He’ll be a good complimentary player able to play up and down the lineup, but he won’t be a star player in this league.

Alot of shocking zeros across the board for some Devils players... Meier, Hischier, Mercer and L. Hughes all no points to start the season.

its a hobby like anything else, some people like the bling, some like the history, some like the engineering and some like the exclusivity, hell, some people just watching the smooth sweep of the second hand. There are many things from that are still popular despite its main function being replaced by new technology.
Vinyl records come to mind.

Not if you don't know the difference between a cheap and expensive watch, which is most people.

His metrics sure make it seem like he's a two-way player. Thats' why so many people wanted him as a rental last year.
A great example where watching a player will tell you more than his metrics.

He's from Switzerland. Players from there like to hang around the neutral zone. Hard to create offense.

I told you guys last season that Willy Nylander is way better than Meier, but lots of people (not only Jersey fans) got very defensive and claimed Meier brings physicality or something. Okay. Meier is a nice scorer but he isn't overly dynamic and kinda tunnel-visioned.

Right, because 76 points in a season is just dismal. What a loser and under-achiever Meier is! Couldn't even reach PPG in a season - what a bum!

But he's only broken 70 points once and he's 27 years old and signed for 8 years at 8.8. It would be another thing entirely if he was putting up 70+ points consistently. Max Domi put up over 70 in a season playing with Drouin and Shaw as his linemates. Someone has to score on bad teams.

People can say its only been 3 games, but in 35 regular season and playoff games with the Devils he has 18 points total. That should be concerning that maybe he's a bad fit.

We all like to talk about how PL Dubois is all about the lifestyle, and I do suspect Meier is more into the lifestyle than winning the Cup. I mean he loves the trsvelling and the tourism, loves watches and here he is wearing Gucci which is a common brand for him. His best friend when he was in San Jose was Evander Kane and you know that pairing means a lot of Vegas nights. It wasn't a surprised that he started to finally get it to click once Kane left San Jose and he could focus.

Loool

Timo is a very humble guy! I know some guys who are frequently hanging out with him during the off-season. He's definitely more into winning games than lifestyle. Isn't he allowed to wear Gucci?

With that being said.... Timo will be fine, no worries.

Meier is a really good player but the Devils have a tough system for some players to fit into.

I don't want to count him out and say he's a bad fit but it'll take some time. He would've fit so well on a team like Ottawa or NYI though.
