What is wrong with Timo Meier?

He still wants to slow the pace down, and everyone else on NJ is go, go, go. Until he figures out how to play in the Ruff system, he's going to struggle. I have no doubt he will figure it out.

He was an absolute beast in the Ranger series, IMO besides Jack and Schmid he was the best player, he was driving plays as well as getting on Igor's nerves. People that didn't watch the series don't understand how much Igor was bothered by Timo's existence.

We all like to talk about how PL Dubois is all about the lifestyle, and I do suspect Meier is more into the lifestyle than winning the Cup. I mean he loves the trsvelling and the tourism, loves watches and here he is wearing Gucci which is a common brand for him. His best friend when he was in San Jose was Evander Kane and you know that pairing means a lot of Vegas nights. It wasn't a surprised that he started to finally get it to click once Kane left San Jose and he could focus.

My pastor told me, any man with good health, happy family, god in his heart and side stories to the Evander Kane lore should count himself a happy man.

What's the point of wearing a watch when you can see the time on your phone?

I feel like watches haven't been relevant for like 20 years.
its a hobby like anything else, some people like the bling, some like the history, some like the engineering and some like the exclusivity, hell, some people just watching the smooth sweep of the second hand. There are many things from that are still popular despite its main function being replaced by new technology.

Some people also look at them as sort of investments because they will hold their value for a really long time.

Most of the time though theyre kinda looked at as a status symbol. You'll know a guy has some money if hes wearing an expensive watch.

If I had to guess it’s more him not being the focus of the play. In SJ, he was the forward for the past few years. Yes he had Hertl but it was Timo dictating play. I think he’s struggling with the transition of having guys like Hughes, Bratt, and Hischier dictating play. Every time I’ve watched he just feels peripheral. I think he will figure it out eventually or he will end up building a super 3rd line like Kessel did for PIT.
as a swiss devils fan i wasn't a huge supporter of the trade. nico and timo never developped noticeable chemistry on the swiss national team. i would separate them. but either nico or meier on the third line and try holtz with the remaining two players.

The latter have become glaringly obvious in NJ.

In SJ, he was afforded the luxury of being a Meier-first gunslinger. Getting the prime opportunities and being allowed to basically do what he wants in the offensive zone, as well as not really having any expectations of defensive play. Meier's style hasn't meshed well with the Devils' speed and aggressiveness-based game.

It's not the case in NJ.
He's somewhat similar to a poor man's Rick Nash, although Meier has a harder shot and Nash would actually play defense. I don't know what line Meier is on in NJ but since you can't take back the contract given to him, he would probably be most effective on a 3rd or 4th line who struggles creating offense since he will steal/waste opportunities playing with more talented players.

Rick Nash had way better rush/1v1 capability.

Meier is really just an in-zone gunslinger. He gets the puck and wants to shoot it (4th highest league-wide in 5v5 shots/60).

I honestly think he would perform best with a guy like Mcleod as his center and then maybe Mercer as the opposite winger. Mcleod can handle carrying the puck through the neutral zone, then dump it off to Meier to fling on net. Mcleod would also handle the bulk of the defensive and backchecking responsibility. Mercer is a dawg and can bang in some greasy goals around the net.

He’s not that good maybe? He’s never had more than 76 points in a season. No more easy Pp points without Karlsson. He’s very overrated imo.

Contract could be an absolute cap killer soon.
Right, because 76 points in a season is just dismal. What a loser and under-achiever Meier is! Couldn't even reach PPG in a season - what a bum!

I can’t take my iPhone into the ocean…….

Or maybe I can……can i ?!?!!!

He was “the guy” up front in San Jose, he ain’t “the guy” anymore in NJ. Might be better off driving his own line down on the 3rd. Could be a Kevin Fiala type who plays better away from other stars.
