Yes it was, it was far and away his best defensive performance. He had more defensive zone starts that year and played more PK. Are you so agenda driven you want to ignore reality?

They had top 6 wingers on 3rd line to spread out the offense. I’d love if McDavid could produce with lower quality wingers and spread out the scoring.
Interesting that someone can be a negative player and still be considered their top defensive player. By the way, he didn’t have anything really significant when it came to Dzone starts that year compared to other years. He actually had more in previous years. His line actually bled goals that post season and he spent a whopping 10 seconds per game on SH(4 minutes total) so no, nothing you said was actually correct. Nice try though.

Interesting that the “best player” can’t produce with everyone. I find that odd. All I hear is how much he makes everyone around him better and can carry a line, yet your blaming his linemates..

The Blackhawks won multiple Cups because they were more talented and had more depth than their opponents, not because Toews furrowed his brow and thought about how badly he wanted to win and gave inspirational speeches to the guys every intermission.

Hell, the Blackhawks won the Cup DESPITE Toews' tantrum in 2013 against Detroit.

Was pretty clear we were comparing his early playoff years to his later ones. Pretty sure we have been talking about playoffs this whole time actually. You like moving the conversation all around.

He did carry his linemates, to the tune of back to back Smythes actually. He objectively didn’t play with the best wingers on his team.

Is this how you act when you were wrong about something? Complete avoidance? Crosby wasn’t that great defensively, he didn’t play that much PK, and he still had more Ozone starts than Dzone ones. His offense(which wasn’t great) still was the reason he was in the talk for MVP.

Good for him. His 2016 smythe is probably the weakest one(see the history section) and his 2017 is great, Malkin still led the team in goals and points.

I'd be giving up mentally too if I were him.
Putting up 150+ points only to deal with the sieves on defense and in net.

Just counting down the days till he can hit free agency and I for one don't blame him.

Win a cup elsewhere.

Nothing is wrong with McDavid, he is still the best player to ever lace up the skates, the problem is he is in a wrong team with wrong culture. Someone in finnish press said Edmonton should go after Saros:

But i dont think the thing is getting a high paid star goalie, its more about getting that wannabe NHL coach out first, then trying all you can to fix the defense. Nurse is locked and he cannot be moved, thats a shit contract you gotta live with. Try to get #2 or #3 who can make the problem dissappear.

Get Klingberg, he actually can be the playdriver on defence no matter anyone says. Then Durzi to make up what Klingberg cannot do to help him out. Now Nurse is your #4 which is how it should be, will it destroy the offence to get there i do not know. But it's a chance i would take.

Wasting two best offensive players on the same team how Oilers is doing atm, is beyond f***ing stupid. Do some BIG moves or just quit as a GM mr Holland.

So he was bad at defense and offense yet he won the conn Smythe. Interesting

Not everything has to be a fight, you’re the one constantly shifting the subject when you’re wrong, not me.

He won a smythe for his offense. He was second in scoring on his own team. It’s pretty straight forward, I don’t see how you aren’t understanding this. Still a weak one nevertheless.

Shifting? Shifting what? You stated bogus claims and debunked them and this is how you act.

McDavid got hurt from a hit, correct? Hip area IIRC. If true it could take weeks or longer to properly heal he needs to sit.
He was playing like shit the weeks before that though. McDavid is kind of like the sword guy in Raiders now.

McDavid is hurt - they rushed him back to play in the Winter Classic and because the team was sinking. Hip flexor - maybe a tear, should have sat for two weeks. Now it will probably take him until after Xmas to get back to normal.

I fully predict he will turn it on at some point and could still win the Art Ross - question will be whether it will be too little too late for the team.

He's a little banged up, a little demoralized, I think he's engaged? Also worth noting that he's going to be 27 in a couple months. Crosby went from 1.6 ppg in his 23-25 year seasons to 1.3 in his year 26 season and then (partly due to a wrist injury/Mike Johnston) 1.1 in his age 27.

Middle of November and knowing you will not make the playoffs is demoralizing

He's demoralized. Just straight up. People always forget that these players are only human and not the superheroes some build them up to be. He's wasted his prime years in EDM being the best player in the game all while watching the organization piss it away by making one poor decision after another. The same issues that have plagued the franchise for the past 10 years still exist. He's looking more and more like a player whose had enough and is checking out mentally. I will be shocked if he signs an extension there.

I've had hip flexor issues from work. Shit seriously sucks. Only way to let it heal is to stop doing whatever is causing the issue for a while. For Mcdavids case it would be playing hockey. He needs to take a few weeks off but I cant see that happening with the way this team is playing.

McDavid has clearly issues…
He has lower top speed and less rushes, that is because he is clearly dealing with an injury. On top he is fumbling pucks and his shot is less effective, which means he probably has more than one issue.
I hope the Oilers know what they do, because he is clearly just barely half the player that he is when fully healthy
