Emotionally ooorrrrrrrr.....

But honesty... McDavid at whatever percentage he's at today, is still the most dangerous player in the league.. he may be hampered but he still creating chances and helping his team like mad..

It's sure reflective in the score.

Then what is it? I showed you that he doesn’t struggle in elimination games and you scoff and say “but…but 1 goal in 4 games! And his +/- is bad!” It’s a 4 game sample size you’re basing your entire argument on.
You’re trying to nit pick an argument I had with another poster about him being one of the best playoff performers ever. So yes, his performance in an elimination game in game 4 against the jets in 2021 is getting brought up. He also didn’t look like the greatest playoff performer ever in game 7 in 2017 against the ducks, and could have probably done more against the 12th seeded hawks in the bubble.

I did acknowledge that he set the world on fire the last two seasons right? However, he is clearly being misused if he can’t be put in a position to win his matchups with consistency in the playoffs.

Oilers need to take some more accountability on the defensive end. McDavid is in conversations that impact the team like coaching changes, and he has more pull than almost any player of all time. If oilers want to win, they need to adopt a winning style, and McDavid will have to be a big part of that change.

What's wrong with McDavid is that after all these years in the League, he can't be bothered to become a 200' player.

Generational my ass.
I don’t know but maybe Connor’s struggles putting up points this year, especially 5 on 5, is because he is trying to play better without the puck?

The extremes in this thread are just silly.

Clearly McDavid has some sort of injury. This injury is limiting some of his best abilities, the high speed stick work that he has no peer at which makes him the deadliest player off the rush.

No he does not suck because this injury has exposed him. Injuries to the bread and butter of certain players will effect their production. Whatever happened to Matthews wrist last season made his shot less deadly. The same is true for for McDavid.

Teams are also playing Edmonton better this season too. They are playing far more conservative to not allow the rush as much, as well as having better coverage back allows to take less penalties with the Oilers transition game.

You want to talk about nit picking…you bring up a series a few years ago where he showed up…now you bring up a series years before that to double down.

You acknowledge it, yet are using the smaller sample sizes for your argument.

And again, it starts with their defense, goaltending, and overall depth. Making McDavid a 200 foot player isn’t going to magically fix all that. What part of that don’t you get? When’s the last time a player changed their game and it directly resulted in championships? It wasn’t Yzerman either, who was surrounded by HOF talent on both ends, and had the luxury of playing with top defensive forwards and many offensive talent. He was past his prime
Offensively as well and didn’t have to carry the load anymore.
What's wrong with McDavid is that after all these years in the League, he can't be bothered to become a 200' player.

:laugh::laugh: Because again, that’s going to magically fix their other problems. Lazy

Why should anybody bust their butt on defense when the Captain won't? Everybody should just blow totally off defense and cheat for the rush like he does. When it doesn't work out, blame the goalie!
Yes because their defense and goaltending will, once again, get magically better than they have been over the last few years if they saw McDavid playing defense. Do you realize how ridiculous you sound?

Did everyone watch Yzerman play in his own end and then suddenly all those HOFers and defensive specialists were so “inspired” that they decided…you know what, I think I’ll play defense too! Or were they simply competent.

You just want to shit on McDavid and that pretty much sums it up. Nurse and Skinner aren’t bad at their jobs because of McDavid.

I agree he's injured.

It's pretty short-sighted for both the Oilers and for McDavid himself however, to have him in the lineup.

There's a risk of further aggravating the injury.

Even if he's lucky and that doesn't happen, it will still prolong the amount of time it will take for him to fully recover compared to if he was resting and rehabbing instead.

For a player as important as McDavid, it's in the best interests of both sides that he fully recovers.

They need McDavid at 100% if they want to win.
Oh I agree that the best option long-term is to get him to full health.

But with their performance, the org has painted themselves into a corner. They're forced into having a 60% McDavid in the lineup because they can't afford to lose any more games.

Because they’d be completely screwed if he missed 5-7 games. That would be their season
So be it. The issues go far deeper.

I am reminded of a Dilbert comic from like 20 years ago. The boss makes an announcement over the PA system that "due to the impending snowstorm, all non-essential employees may go home". In the next frame he is peering out into the parking lot with his binoculars and says "This will be the easiest round of layoffs ever".

McDavid is the franchise. You allow him to heal. While he is healing, you pay close attention to who steps up and who doesn't. Does not have to be points and wins or losses don't matter. Just who steps up. Those who don't find themselves on the short end of some cold, hard decision making.

Pining for the fjords?
LOL. I bet not many get THAT!!

You're basically saying that the Oilers defense wouldn't be any better if McDavid himself finally made a commitment to playing something like a solid defense (which he hasn't). You're the one sounding ridiculous.

I'd be giving up mentally too if I were him.
Putting up 150+ points only to deal with the sieves on defense and in net.

Just counting down the days till he can hit free agency and I for one don't blame him.

Win a cup elsewhere.

Their defense and goaltending have been problems for YEARS my guy. You’re the one that suddenly thinks the quick fix is if McDavid commits to a more defensive game. And yet I’m ridiculous…
