Drafting Rielly was a huge mistake for Leaf organization. If only they taken Trouba. Burkie talking all the time about size and testosterone... And this.

Why would you healthy scratch your no.1

He's clearly getting back into shape after a season of nagging injuries. Last I checked you have to actually play to get better

Doesn't matter how much you think he sucks. He's our no.1 whether we like it or not so we need whatever "best" is of Rielly.

My guess is that wanted to give Gus a look at #1PP and did not want to do it with him in the lineup.

Trouba would have walked for Pionk.

Kinda tells me they have concerns with Rielly on the PP. I mean they replaced him with Sandy in game #1 vs CBJ. Probably not taking any chances of pissing him off.
It's fine if we take him off the PP but healthy scratching him is astonishing.

We can get away with Rielly providing average defence. He's one of the best in the game at moving the puck up quickly from your own zone, that's worth more. But he's clearly not his best right now. We need to help him reach his best and Keefe clearly isn't the man for the job

McCabe-Liljegren and Gio-Brodie should play the majority of the game 5 on 5. Rielly-Schenn should be sheltered with Schenn getting P.K time and Rielly getting P.P time. But I wouldn’t even mind if Rielly is at 17-18 minutes a game with 5-6 of those minutes on the P.P. The top 4 guys will have to eat a lot of minutes, like 23+ minutes. This is how I see it until Rielly learns to play defence. Which I don’t think he ever will.

Funny thing is trash talk about rielly defensive but want to see liljegren who had been struggle really hard defensivly since mccabe trade and was easily worst leafs d defensive side of the puck last 10 -12 game... playing big part of 5v5 because youre thinking hes better...

Rielly out and bootleg Tyson Barrie in (Tyson Barrie himself is like -5000 points).

This weeks episode of Leafs Circus

He was the best player in the playoffs for us last year. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt until we see how the playoffs go this year.

I agree with his benching. I hope he doesnt run pp1 ever again. Reilly pinches far too often, I hope thats the root of the benching. Also, when it comes to winning battles, his will is broken very quickly, he is content losing a battle. If the team is up 4-1 or down 4-1, Reilly's solution is to pinch, if he is playing bad he pinches more, just constantly joining the rush blindly or selfishly to get his name on the scoreboard.

Our coach is a complete idiot. Healthy scratching our longest serving player who had played very well the last 5 games.

Moronic decision. What a joke.

Only conclusion I can draw is he’s looking to get rest to some of our players who have been beat up more this year down the stretch. Otherwise, I agree, this makes no sense

Thats exactly what he is. A second pairing puck mover, pp2 guy.

Garbage take. As per what seems to be the usual in this thread.

Reilly strikes me as a very sensitive person, I wouldnt be surprised if some days he is a big whiner in the room. If the booing starts, Reilly is not the type of person who can shrug it off, he would probably cry about.

Our powerplay results this year with Rielly vs without speak for themselves. You guys may not like the way he does it, or how it looks, but our PP1 is more effective with him than without and that is simply fact.

Reilly has "im upset" body language. I bet he is whining to his team-mates about the benching. I recall him calling out fans for booing Jake Gardiner. Smart hockey fans can see that Reilly has improved very minimally since his rookie year.

What is worse is we were so much better defensively without him in the lineup. Small sample size and not going to sit him in the playoffs but we were winning games we had no business winning without him.

Reilly is terrible on the PP, he wont shoot to mix it up and if he does its blocked. He has no hockey sense, i can sit and predict every decision he will make on the pp right before he does it. Gustaffson last game, i could not do this with. Also did u see Gustaffson walking the line and moving the puck quickly. Reilly kills puck flow.

He strikes me as the complete opposite and someone who would do anything for the team, like the Barrie situation. He and Tavares seem like some of the team's most professional, team-first people.

I won't argue with this... but I want Rielly in cause I've seen the extra gear he has (especially in playoffs)... he just adds an extra element to the offense and isn't terribly defensively when he is playing his best.

If we are putting out a bunch of D with a limited offense (Holl, Schenn, Brodie, McCabe, Gio), Rielly is needed in my opinion.

Except he isn’t and the results do not agree with you at all. Our powerplay has not been as effective when he’s been off it. We have no one on this team who is capable of bumping Rielly from the #1PP spot today.

If Rielly was half as bad as you people rage about on the powerplay we would not be consistently one of the best in the league year after year. The reality is you just don’t like how he does it, that’s it
