Did Grigorenko do anything tonight? I dont recall hearing much of him.

He hasn't done much. Made a couple nice passes in the two games so far and he did make a mistake in 2nd period.... he was out for a long time and took it out to center and threw in back into the Buffalo zone... other than that nothing. He's been good at back checking but being paired up with Ott and Hecht with no Power Play time hasn't helped him offensively.

Overall great effort from the Leafs. Gotta love reading TSN article comments. Leaf haters playground after every loss.

Kostka looked great, Kadri as well. Let's take Fraser out and put in Franson and we have a reliable D.

Grabo's line needs to pick it up.

Not much else to say, Leafs outplayed the Sabres in almost every facet except for goaltending. Miller time.

There plenty of shots from the slot (check out ESPN's gamecast), I know Kulemin had at least one deflection on net, and there were at least a few screened shots. We did use too many Frattin-type shots, but had enough decent chances to win the game.

Not sure how accurate that thing is, but I count a grand total of 2 shots from the slot being shown.

It sucks they didn't get the W but they sure are playing a more defensively responsible style than in previous years. It'll take a while to iron out the kinks. Carlyle actually has a system in place as opposed to Wilson. No wonder they're not used to it!

And that damn Miller... I'd take him on my team any day.

The Good -

Phaneuf - two games in a row now playing very responsible D
Kostka - really like his instincts at both ends of the ice, he's earned the ice time he's getting
Kadri - more ice time please! looks dangerous as ever and it looks like he's even smarter with the puck
Bozak - could have easily had a couple more assists in this game, although if he's gonna be on the PP he's gotta learn to let it rip every once in a while
Komarov - like his game, he'll be around for a while
Scrivens - Not spectacular but 3 GA in 2 games is hard to complain about

Meh -

Kessel/Lupul - had a couple chances but pretty weak couple of games to start the season
Fraser - decent presence, would much rather have seen Franson
JVR - definitely the weak link on the 3rd line right, get the feeling he's putting a lot of pressure on himself

Bad -

KGM - replace Mac with Frattin and I'd bet this line gets it together, nothing so far

Keeping things in perspective, a decent game against a solid team. Sucks we couldn't get one on an extended 5 on 3 but we hit like 3 posts. Couple of those go in and we're 2-0.

Really, out of all of them you're blaming Mac? He's probably been the best out of the 3 so far.

I am going to blame Carlyle for the loss haha. He should know better than to change a winning lineup. Didn't he see Wilson last year do that with Lebda and the opening season winning streak went kaput.

Didn't see the game but I hear Miller was the reason the Sabres won.

How did Fraser or Holzer look?

Leafs played much better tonight, despite the result. Hopefully Gardiner is back for the Pit game, he`ll help the transition game immeasurably.

This game is a bad example of the point you are trying to make. This was NOT a typical Randy Carlyle, play defensively and wait for your opportunities-type of game. This game was mostly played in the opposing teams end tonight. Against another goalie, this game could have been ours early.

Randy really knows the imporntance is little things during these (his) low scoring games.
Like we all saw his team took every faceoff home. They won them straight. Concentrated.

So I am really puzzled why we won't trade for a goalie since these low scoring games are coming game after game this season. A scrivens cannot win these type of games. He will be pulled a lot in the end future too, and only then we can score. Without scrivens.

the team did good, 35 shots, you win 9 out of 10 times

I think its time to trade Kulemin. That 2nd line sucks. Grabo hustles and plays great, but his wingers are useless. Mac shows spurts but fumbles the puck too many times. I think we are seeing Nonis showcase some D to get a trade (possibly Bernier?)

3 years ago Kadri was nowhere near ready for the NHL. 2 years ago Kadri was nowhere near ready for the NHL. 1 year ago he was closer, but still not ready for the NHL. See the trend?

Kadri got NHL time, which showed he wasnt ready. So far this year he's showing otherwise. Lets not forget that he once or twice before had a stretch of 2 or 3 NHL games where he played really well and scored a couple goals, only to fall off completely.

Kadri has always been ready.....he was used by Wilson when he was called up as a 3rd line checker for the most part and always on the wall. You remember when they said he caused two many give aways in his rookie camp.....he lead the team in scoring and plus minus that pre season. If you listen to Wilson who I never did......he was easy to knock off the puck, did not play well defensively....etc. No Hunter coached player is ever not going to understand the game away from the puck....that was pure BS.

what do people think of Holzer and Fraser's games?

I don't think either were that good.. Fraser was barely noticeable.

Holzer's game is safe but he's has NOTHING at all in terms of offense IMO.

We need Gardiner and Franson back in the line up, Komisarek as the 7th.

Everybody's really hating on the Grabo line, i mean they started slow but i thought they really picked up and had some quality chances. you must also remember with the Grabo line, they are rarely in our own zone.

You must also remember that they just happened to be on the ice for both goals against tonight. They were nearly invisible offensively for the first two periods, and in the 3rd, when they managed to get something going, it was essentially Grabo circling around along the boards, not doing anything with the puck. They didn't really generate anything offensively.
