This game is a bad example of the point you are trying to make. This was NOT a typical Randy Carlyle, play defensively and wait for your opportunities-type of game. This game was mostly played in the opposing teams end tonight. Against another goalie, this game could have been ours early.

based on how the team is playing, I don't think the people hoping for an ultra-defensive leafs team are going to be too happy.

Randy seems to be fully intent on taking advantage of our team speed and keeping the puck moving forward at all times.

I am going to blame Carlyle for the loss haha. He should know better than to change a winning lineup. Didn't he see Wilson last year do that with Lebda and the opening season winning streak went kaput.

Didn't see the game but I hear Miller was the reason the Sabres won.

How did Fraser or Holzer look?

Holzer had two unsuccessful stretch passes but he was calm for his nhl debut
Fraser had a fight with Foligno. It sucked. He's tough but there is no room for fraser.

Good game. I have no expectations. The offense looked decent, although they need to work on neutral zone play and zone entry.

Very happy for Colton Orr. That guy put his career on the line today and TKO'd Scott with a body shot.

I don't think either were that good.. Fraser was barely noticeable.

Holzer's game is safe but he's has NOTHING at all in terms of offense IMO.

We need Gardiner and Franson back in the line up, Komisarek as the 7th.

you cant have all offensive defence playing.
they were both good, when you dont notice them its good, there doing there job

With Gardiner back, I'd like to see this:

Phaneuf-Kostka (no reason to break them up)
Gardiner-Gunnarsson (Hopefully Gardiner can help stabilize Gunnar)
Liles-Franson(thought they looked good together in Montreal)

kadri, you know kadri, that guy kadri, you know

Kadri has huge potential and will be a big time player for the Leafs for years to come if Nonis is not stupid and trades him away.

Imo you can't have both franson and gardiner in. One or the other, Komi needs in if not Holzer..You need a full defensive dman. Otherwise you're stuck with about 4 twd, 2 ofd.

No chance he gets traded...not unless he's being packaged for a better player that is in the same age group.

Kadri is just beginning to scratch the surface...I think by the end of this season he's the center of the top line.

Miller is amazing and yes Buffalo is a better team.

They may be but they weren't showing it today. Miller was amazing for them though but I guess that comes with the territory of having an elite goalie.

would you trade Kulemin in a Luongo trade?

I am not advocating it, I'm just asking

what if the price was Kulemin + someone like Percy

edit: and i'm not even mad at our goaltending, i'm just genuinely curious

what do people think of Holzer and Fraser's games?

Maybe nerves got to him, but I was expecting a lot more steady play from Holzer, at times he had the deer in the headlights look. Sketchy play by him during the game, seemed to panic a few times with the puck. Wasn't impressed, with Fraser he was ok, nothing really stood out to me about his game, still wondering why Franson wasn't in tonight but thats for another day.

Yeah I'd do that, Kulemin is replaceable, he has shown no signs in the first 2 games that he is anywhere close to regaining the form he had two years ago. Still not sure what has happened to him.

Miller Mystifies Maple Leafs

Coming off a season opening win, the Leafs took to home ice for the first time, and like in Montreal, a long pregame ceremony seemed to work against the home team. The Leafs had a slow start, and so too did the crowd, however at 2:34 of the first period the building came alive as Colton Orr dropped the gloves against the 6’8†John Scott.

My OP
decent game on the leafs part. Im loving the initial impact that kadri is making, hopefully he can stay consistent. What i saw out there today was the leafs in ability to finish plays, many times sending it back to the point for a better than nothing chance (though some were decent). Personally I think the finishing ability will come once this team gells a little more. My only concern for the leafs is their second line which were out there for both goals and didnt do much to contribute offensively (though i liked their grind). That 2nd line is vital for the leafs success.

I'm surprised to see so much optimism here.

Leafs got a lot of shots, yeah, but most of them weren't real scoring chances. We missed the net damn near every shot in the third. Kulemin, I thought, had a great third period. Grabovski stunk. JVR was awful. Bozak was good, incredible on the FO's. Kadri was good, I like how hard he back checks and tries for takeaways- very impressive.

Phil's just getting his feet under him. He'll start potting ginos soon. Lupes was alright, couple nice scoring chances.

Phaneuf + Kostka were great.

Gunnarsson, Fraser, Holzer I didn't think were good. We had no mobility and no offense from our back end other than Dion/Kostka/Liles.

Scrivens was pretty good, I'd play him in Pittsburgh and Reims in NY.
