Wearing your team's jersey to a game not involving your team

One time I was at a bolts game against some random team I don't remember (but it wasn't Sens). Some random fan just yelled "let's go Senators" lol

The amount of people that wear Ranger jerseys to Devils games not involving the Rangers is infuriating.

Even on nights the Rangers are playing 7 miles away in NYC, there will be blue jerseys at Prudential Center.

I guess they can't afford to go to a Ranger game? Must feel really cool to wear that and know that everyone walking by you wants to punch your lights out.

I'm fairly certain during the Penguins-Islanders playoff series in 2013 that in one of the games in Long Island I noticed a fan with a Flyers jersey on. Likely there to root against the Penguins.

I've never really understood what's the issue. I say wear whatever you want. I probably wouldn't do it because I don't want to stand out from others, but if someone wants to, go ahead.

Maybe that's the case with the guy I saw wearing a Florida Panthers jersey at the Devils/Caps game a week or two ago.

But anyone that wears a Ranger jersey at a Devils game is just someone that can't afford a ticket to a Ranger game and just wants the attention. Seriously it's annoying.

But... hockey fans are very tame compared to soccer fans. If you're caught wearing an NYCFC jersey at a Red Bulls game and you just walk by the supporters section, you're going to have huge problems. In Italy, if you wear a Juventus jersey to a Napoli game when Juve isn't there, you should make a dinner reservation at the nearest hospital for after the game.

Or maybe they're wearing a Rangers jersey because it makes them feel good? I think it's absurd that you'd want to "punch the lights out" of someone for wearing a rival jersey.

Jerseys worn should either be for one of the two teams playing, or for one of the players playing.

eg. it's perfectly acceptable to wear a London Knights Bo Horvat jersey to a Canucks game, or a Team Canada Crosby jersey to a Pens game.

Of course you're allowed to wear whatever you want wherever you want, but if it's completely unrelated to anyone currently playing it's a little weird. It's like wearing sunglasses inside at night - of course you're allowed to do that... but why?

Generally not advisable pulling this shit in New York

I've seen security have to escort a guy in a Lundqvist jersey at an Islanders-Sharks game.

I would never! I'm actually going to the Habs/Leafs game in Montreal next month and I'm buying a Habs jersey to try to fit in lol

I'm sure you could find a Gomez, Gionta or Richer Habs jersey for cheap. Have one foot still in the Devils camp anyway.

I'm a Rangers fan and I wanna punch them too.

It's just making everyone feel uncomfortable for the sake of making everyone feel uncomfortable. It's rude.

A buddy of mine works at the NHL Store in Manhattan so I am getting a blank Habs authentic for 50% off as long as I hook him up with some NY Red Bulls Viking Army gear lol

Love that place. They were practically giving away Reebok jerseys over the summer.

Exactly it would be the same thing if a Devils fan showed up in a red jersey to a Rangers/Leafs game at the Garden or something. They would be walking around with a stupid grin like "hehehe I'm making everyone mad"

It's different for other fans and other parts of the country/Canada. Us Devils and Rangers fans live among each other and deal with each other on a daily basis. Our arenas are 7 miles apart. It's different here.

I'm honestly baffled by some of the responses here.

I'm a Canucks fan and wore my Horvat jersey to a Leafs/Sens game in Toronto. Cheered for goals on either side because I was just there to watch some good hockey. No I didn't wear the jersey to get attention (don't even know where some of you get that idea from) but I was at a hockey game and wanted to wanted to wear my hockey jersey. Didn't know I was committing such a heinous crime

Either way, had a great time at the game and had some great conversations with some of the fans in attendance.

Fifteen years ago I was at a Liverpool vs Man Utd game and two guys near us were in Arsenal shirts, a third guy with them was the Liverpool fan. It was absolutely fine, in fact a lot of banter went back and forth. If it's okay in a football crowd at a game like that it's okay anywhere.

I went to a Sens Habs game years ago when I was visiting family in Ottawa. I had my Oilers winter coat on and still felt a little weird. I would personally feel dumb wearing an actual jersey.

Maybe because Vancouver is on the opposite side of the country?

Like I said, it's much different with the Devils/Rangers rivalry. The amount of fights and brawls that have taken place over the years in each arena and the fact that Every NJ/NYR fan has friends and family that support the other team. It's a different culture over here.

Go wear a Devils or Rangers jersey in Philly while they are playing someone else. I guarantee you it's not going to be "fun."

England must be pretty tame then.

What do you think would happen if you wore a Celtic shirt at Ibrox when they are not playing each other?

In Italy, Napoli and Juve fans were just banned from travelling to each other's stadiums because of violence. Roma-Lazio fans stab each other quite frequently.

I'd happily wear my jersey to a Blackhawks-Bruins or Oilers-Flames game as well. Obviously I'm not going to go in there and antagonize either side or try to start fights/brawls. Like I said, I'm just trying to watch some good hockey and wearing my hockey gear while doing that.
