I really don't understand you guys. 90% of you have Avatar's or Usernames that scream "Fan of X" and yet it doesn't stop you from posting as a "neutral" in trade-rumor threads and the like. Should you only post on the main board with your neutral, non-denominational account?

It's a hockey game, why not declare your allegiance? To me wearing a jersey of a non-playing team simply says: "I don't care as strongly about this game, but I love hockey" or if a playoff race is involved "it should be pretty obvious to you real fans who I want to see win this game".

I value loyalty in sports fans, good bad, ugly... wear your jersey any time you are open to engaging in a discussion about hockey and your team... I've worn my Oiler jersey to the sports bars on Canal Street plenty of times when they aren't playing the Bruins. It makes for great nostalgic conversations of Peter Klima scoring after the lights went out in the Garden, etc, etc.

It's astounding that people actually give a hot damn about what jerseys people wear at games.

It's a problem here. At Prudential Center if you get into any kind of altercation... even verbal... you'll get tossed and have to go through a whole annoying process to be allowed back in the arena even if you're a season ticket holder. Ranger fans think it's funny because nothing bad will happen to them.

Hmmph... sounds sorta like you are speaking from experience (then you are the problem). Why are you getting into a verbal altercation with any sports fan in the first place?

I'll have to explain this a million times because it is completely different in the Northeast. I saw a guy in the Panthers jersey at the Devils/Caps game... Didn't think twice. We have no problem with Panther fans. I saw a guy in a Lundqvist Ranger jersey at the Devils Sharks game and it annoyed me. Why? Because again we fans deal with each other EVERY DAY outside of the arena. Ranger fans are people who tell us that Lundqvist is better than Marty, they still won't let it go that Marty cheated on his wife. They tell us their cup in 94 is more significant than the three we've won since then. They make fun of our attendance, make fun of Newark, say that we're boring and our owner is broke even though those aren't true anymore.

It's an actual rivalry that occurs every day... not just when the teams play each other. That's why these examples of wearing an Oilers jersey in Boston or a Vancouver jersey in Toronto is not the least bit comparable.

I am a completely different person at hockey games compared to soccer games. I've never been thrown out of a Devils game. I always try to joke around with fans of other teams.

It's easier at a Red Bulls match when I'm in a supporters section because I'm not going to be the only one yelling like an idiot... I'd be backed by hundreds of people and it's more fun.

So I was talking with my best friend and we got into this debate of whether or not it is acceptable to wear your NHL team's jersey to a game that doesn't involve your team.

Argument 1: Yes, it is acceptable, you are going to a hockey game, it's cool to see different jerseys especially unique ones that you don't just see people on the street wearing regularly.

Argument 2: No, under no circumstances should you wear your jersey to a game that doesn't involve your team, it's just weird.

So I throw this out to the HF community, is it acceptable to wear your team's jersey to a game not involving your team?

Only if you get 10 of your buddies to wear the same jersey to the arena.

What happens if you wear an Oilers jersey to the Saddledome when the Oilers aren't playing?

Honestly sounds like you need to grow a thicker skin if "my teams one cup in '94 was better than the 3 you've won since !!!" type of comments annoy you.

Maybe that's the case with the guy I saw wearing a Florida Panthers jersey at the Devils/Caps game a week or two ago.

But anyone that wears a Ranger jersey at a Devils game is just someone that can't afford a ticket to a Ranger game and just wants the attention. Seriously it's annoying.

But... hockey fans are very tame compared to soccer fans. If you're caught wearing an NYCFC jersey at a Red Bulls game and you just walk by the supporters section, you're going to have huge problems. In Italy, if you wear a Juventus jersey to a Napoli game when Juve isn't there, you should make a dinner reservation at the nearest hospital for after the game.

No, they don't just want attention. They want to watch hockey they can actually afford, I don't understand why that's so hard to understand.

Not a big deal unless the person is trying to do it to stir up shit. I would advise against doing it if you're a fan of a blood rival, unless you're cool with being heckled the entire night.

If someone just happens to be vacationing and goes to an NHL game in a different city, or is just a casual fan and has one hockey jersey, whatever, it's part of the fun.

Hey, they make fun of our attendance all the time... but last time I checked, us Devils fans don't mind getting lower level seats for $25 for any game while Ranger fans can't get in their building for under $100!

Fifteen years ago I was at a Liverpool vs Man Utd game and two guys near us were in Arsenal shirts, a third guy with them was the Liverpool fan. It was absolutely fine, in fact a lot of banter went back and forth. If it's okay in a football crowd at a game like that it's okay anywhere.

That's Arsenal. We don't hate Arsenal.

If you wore a Man U shirt to Liverpool v. Arsenal, it would be a different story.

I get that. As a Rangers fan whose best friend is a Devils fan, often I got invited to games at The Rock and I had a pretty fun time most of the time. Jawing at rival fans has a time and place of course, I definitely don't sport full Rangers garb there because it's not my thing to do and I personally think it's unfair to do to my friend/rude to people who are more gung ho, but I do see people with it and most of the time it doesn't get too nuts but they might not be trolls all the time. They might just have that only hockey jersey or whatever. I definitely see how it's kind of irking though. Living up here in Buffalo now, I see a lot of people with Habs or Leafs, or whatever else and I just don't think it's worth starting a commotion over. If no one is bothering anyone there's not a whole lot of harm in it honestly IMO. Usually people would shoot banter back and forth with me if they saw my phone's background or cover (stylized NYR graphics) but nothing would really come of it that led to a negative interaction

I'm not trying to make people think it's a blood bath between our teams... but I think others should realize that our rivalry is definitely unique compared to the rest of the league because of geography.... and also people from NY/NJ being loud and aggressive haha.

Please don't take my Villa away!

Yeah, @njdevil26 we don't have much in common here  But Juventus is cool. Was really sad you guys lost the CL :(

How good would an Eastern Conference Final of RBNY vs NYCFC be this year.... let's hope it gets there..... also, let's hope your landlords don't kick you out of Yankee Stadium and the game can be held there! Okay I'm done hehe.

Don't know if my heart can make it through an ECF Derby :help:

Our relationship with the Yankees is good, so I'm not too worried. My only concern is losing games in October when they make the playoffs, and they're good now.

I think eventually we settle in Queens in that big swath of land where the Mets play.

Of course, we're a Yankees-affiliated team, but the Mets let us borrow Citi last week, so they don't seem to mind as long as they get a small cut. I actually think it would be cool if both local baseball teams ended up with some skin in the game. As a Yankees fan, I have a very good relationship with the Mets.

Your goal should be go get an actual soccer stadium. I'm sorry but soccer in a baseball stadium is awful.
I just don't see how this ownership group thought they would get it done with the Red Bulls, Giants, and Jets couldn't do it.

Usually doesn't bother me unless the person wearing it is just looking for trouble. And those people do exist. Weirdest thing I see is at Jays games you'll have guys wearing a jays jersey with a Yankees or Redsox hat. Just...why?

Would I do it? No. Would I care if anyone else did it? No.

I don't see the point at all either way.

Wearing it really screams 'casual fan'.
I actually think the opposite. If you're me, a Bruins fan, and I go to a Winnipeg-Carolina game, doesn't that scream that you enjoy hockey so much that you'll watch no matter who plays?

For the record this exact scenario happened and I did not wear my Bruins jersey...mostly because I wanted to bandwagon for the night and join in some friendly chirps along the way. But I do not see an issue with it.

I usually spend the first few stoppages scanning the Scottrade Center for the little dots of red in the crowd that are Blackhawks fans. There's 4 or 5 at every game. It's annoying and obviously I'll make a comment to the person/people that I'm with but I'm not gonna say something to one of them if they walk past me. Someone earlier in the thread used the perfect word for it, its irksome to see those people.

I only assume the person is looking for attention or wearing it to be an ass if it is a Hawks, Stars, Predators (which randomly started popping up a month or so before the playoffs this past year :sarcasm:), or Wild jersey. If someone is rocking a Hurricanes or Coyotes jersey, it's weird and I'll point it out but it doesn't bother me quite as much for whatever reason.

Back when i was in college up in Iowa a few years ago, one of my classes took a trip back down to St. Louis and the professor got the whole class tickets to the Blues/Stars game. Most of the students up there are from Chicago so 5 or 6 of the guys in the class thought it would be funny to wear their Blackhawks jerseys. Would've been fine but a couple of them started saying shit to the Blues fans that were giving them a hard time and went a little over the top. One of them even claimed they were spit on even though no one in the class, even the other guys wearing hawks jerseys saw it happen when they were with him the whole time. this guy was a tool though so not surprising.

At one point, a bunch of the people in my class were gonna get to be on the jumbotron, some of who had never even been to a professional sporting event. They ended up not getting on cause all of the hawks fans jumped in behind them putting the logo right behind the other peoples heads. The camera guy ended up turning around and walking away and they never got on the screen because of these guys. Kind of extreme example but I'm sure this happens at other places.

I've been to non-Blues games in Tampa and Chicago and wore jeans and a black t shirt and just sat and enjoyed the game. I would never, under any circumstances, wear my Tarasenko or Parayko jerseys to those games or any other non-Blues game I may go to. It's not worth it to be the guy everyone looks at and says look at this douche, especially if I was the the United Center.
